Damon was still a baby when the pandemic arrived and was the only baby in the world who got possessed by the demon. He couldn’t harm anyone, as he couldn’t even crawl at the time. He spent most of the time either crying or sleeping. After the possession period passed, he became a normal baby. Seemingly he didn’t even have demonic powers, which usually stay after humans are entirely fused with their demons. The only reminder of his demonic past was his red eyes. When his hair grew, they were white as snow.
After his mother regained her memories of what happened when she was possessed, she became suicidal and ended up in the mental hospital for self-harm. Because of this, Damon was raised by his grandparents, Bobby and Karla. They raised him until he was sixteen. However, the school was far away, and Bobby was no longer available to drive due to losing eyesight, so he left to live in the dormitory at sixteen. He often visited, and whenever he returned, he always brought gifts that he bought for the money from his part-time job.
He also visited his childhood friend and neighbor Lilith, born on the same day as Damon. The two were adorable and growing up. They were inseparable. Grandparents began to regret arranging Damon’s marriage to another girl, Miranda. However, Damon and Miranda did not have a good relationship, so they were not in contact.
He was now standing in front of Lilith’s house, holding a bouquet of flowers behind his back. He rang the bell, and she opened the doors in a minute. She wore casual clothes with her blonde hair down instead of tied into a tight bun. A smile crossed her face as soon as she spotted him.
“Damon?” She was surprised as Damon told her that he would stay during their birthday in the dormitory and study for the exam season. She immediately came over and hugged him. “Damon, I missed you!”
“I missed you too!” Damon hugged her with his free hand, and after she released him, he gave her the flowers. “Happy birthday!”
“What?” She gasped after seeing the flowers. After she picked up the bouquet of flowers, she hugged it, almost crushing the flowers. “Thank you!”
“Hey, hey! Careful, they’re fragile!” Damon chuckled and gently pinched her cheek, making her blush.
“Come on in!”
She stepped aside from the doorway and invited him in. He took off his shoes and coat when he walked into the house. The two of them went to her room, put the flowers in the vase, and turned on the television to watch the news.
“News again?” Damon chuckled as he walked into the room. Lilith always turned on the television whenever the news was about to start. It was almost like a ritual.
“Demons had enhanced strength, speed, flexibility, and various other powers that came with a possession. Some of them can transform into other people or even animals. Others can fly or create fires.”
The broadcaster talked about the new profession, which became popular among the demons who felt guilt over atrocities they committed after being possessed. Eighteen years ago, a massive demonic possession occurred in the entire world. The panic spread quickly, as the hundreds of possessed people became violent and often committed atrocities until the army finally stopped them. They managed to contain them, and soon the possessed people returned to their senses. Some of them felt immense guilt over the horrific things they had done.
After research, the scientist discovered that demonic possession could be triggered by intense feelings of rage, grief, or betrayal. So queen Margaret ordered to watch over those whose family members or friends died recently and punish those who betrayed their spouses.
“Now, hero wannabes showed up using their demonic powers to help people. What a joke!” The broadcaster was against the idea of people using demonic powers, and many people agreed with him. They wanted to forget the whole incident. “If you are one of the demons, stop using your demonic powers, and go to church. Maybe, God will save your soul and exorcise your corrupted souls!”
Damon listened carefully to every word the broadcaster said about the demonic power. Then he said with a chuckle, “I agree with him.”
“Why? I think it is good that they’re doing their best for society.” She said with a gentle smile on her face. She put her hand on Damon’s palm and giggled. “Maybe one day, you will learn your superpower!”
“I doubt that; it’s over eighteen years, and I got nothing.” Damon chuckled, but she smiled while looking at him.
She looked straight into his eyes, with her soft lips slightly parted. His gaze caused some butterflies in her stomach. He didn’t know what to say to her and thanked the heavens when awkward silence was interrupted by the doorbell. Lilith stood up. She looked at Damon with big eyes, “It must be mom and dad. I will be right back!” then she quickly ran out of the room.
“Take your time.” Damon chuckled as he sat on the bed and took the remote to change the channel. He changed the channel and turned on the cartoons.
When Lilith showed up, Damon stood up and asked if she would want to come to his house and have a birthday party. He warned her parents a whole month ago, asking them not to make plans for their birthday so they could attend the birthday party at his home.

“What do you think, dinner at my house and after that movie night and pizza for two?”
“Alright!” she agreed without even thinking. She missed spending time with his grandparents; the only interaction she had with them was when they met each other while passing by their houses. She asked her parents to visit Damon’s grandparents more often; however, they said she could visit them when Damon was back.
“Great! Let’s go!” Damon jumped off the bed in excitement, grabbed his phone and keys then left through the door. Lilith followed behind him while holding onto his jacket, not wanting to lose him. “See you later, Mrs. Hales! Bye, Mr. Hale!”
Damon waved goodbye to the couple as they went outside. They talked briefly as they walked toward Damon’s house, five minutes away. When they reached the house, they saw it in the sky.
“Look!” Lilith pointed upward.
Two people were flying and punching each other. They were clearly fighting. With each punch, the distance between them kept increasing. However, they still flew toward each other and continued the fight. One man with black hair and the other brunette, wearing a blindfold and carrying a bag, slung across his shoulders.
Damon sighed. “Those idiots are at it again.”
“It looks kind of fun, don’t you agree.” Lilith teased him while watching two demons fight in the air as if it was a movie. Suddenly, after the blindfolded guy kicked the blond toward the ground, the blond fell on top of a trashcan. He was furious and wanted to fly back; however, he was exhausted and couldn’t.
The other demon flew closer to the ground and showed the blond a middle finger with a smirk on his face. After noticing that the blond demon was too tired to continue, the blindfolded demon teased him. “I didn’t even break the sweat.” When the blond demon punched the wall in rage, the blindfolded demon winked at him and showed his tongue before flying into the sky.
The blonde seemed furious, but he could barely move anymore. He groaned painfully and slowly closed his eyes. Damon walked over to him and gave him a hand. Damon helped him to stand up and started scolding him.
“Stop training above my house! Who will pay if you’ll crash?!”
The man glared at Damon as if he wanted to murder him and Damon’s ignorant expression only infuriated him further. He clenched his fists, saying, “You’re not worth it.” And with that, he stormed past Damon, disappearing behind a building.
Lilith pinched Damon’s arm with an angry expression on her face. “You’re so careless! What if he injured you?!” She questioned him because everyone knows that demons are acting on their impulses. Especially the newly possessed ones have a hard time controlling their urges. If the demon had the slightest desire to kill him, he would have done that in a heartbeat.
She worried because she knew that Damon despised demons, despite being one. Damon’s attitude towards demons was always cold. Maybe he was jealous that the others have superpowers? Or was it because his father killed himself after being possessed so he couldn’t harm anyone else. Luckily, no demon has responded to Damon’s bad attitude to them so far. But, if he continued acting like this, he would kill himself.
“Stop being so cocky!” she gently slapped him at the back of Damon’s head as they walked toward the house doors. However, Damon chuckled and unlocked the doors, inviting her in.
They were greeted by Damon’s grandmother Karla when they entered the house. “Hey, kids!” She smiled as she walked up to Lilith. “Happy birthday!” She said while giving her a warm hug.
“Aunty! It is so good to see you!” Lilith was happy, and she hugged Damon’s grandmother tightly. “I missed you!”
Klara chuckled and said, “I missed you too!” She let go of Lilith, and with a smile, she asked, “How’s school? Did you pass all your classes?”
“Yes! I did!” Lilith answered while smiling brightly. It has not been exciting since it became summer vacation. Exams were over, and the summer would be much more entertaining now that Damon was back. She looked at Damon with a slight blush on her cheeks; when her gaze met Damon, she blushed even more.
