Morning came quite quickly, and Matthew opened his eyes as he woke up. The only window inside his room, was shut, and so, there was no light in the room, still, since the window was damaged, there were some rays of light shining through.

Matthew got up from his bed, and opened the window, to reveal the bright light of the sun in the morning. He stared at the outside, and saw the backyard of this orphanage, it was quite huge.

Matthew glanced, and noticed many kids, of different ages playing around, he even saw some, who were probably in their 17, or more. With that, he figured it was time to go wash his face.

After he made it to the bathroom, and was lucky enough not to be fooled by some prank, he washed his face, and went to the hall where he saw many kids gathering yesterday. After he made it there, he saw Max with the three other boys standing around.

He went to them, and said, "Good morning!". The group of four looked at him, then laughed hard. Matthew was a little puzzled by this, and so, he asked them, "What's so funny?".

Max looked at him, and said, "You have just woken up, right?". Matthew nodded, indicating that she was right in her assumption. Max then said, "Well, you've missed breakfast then! That's the thing that's funny to us! We were betting on it, and we all bet that you would miss it!".

Matthew smiled, as he thought to himself, 'Hah! I thought they laughed at me because I approached them, but I guess not! Though, about this missing breakfast thing, dammit! That means no food until lunchtime, but, when is that going to happen?'.

This day went on very quickly, as Matthew hung out with Max and her group, they taught him many things about the orphanage, like where they wash themselves, how they spend their days. And other stuff, like, at what time is lunch, and what time is breakfast.

Soon, an entire week went by, and Matthew had started to become friends with the group of four kids, who had come to hurt him on his first day here, kind of? He had even started teaching the four kids how to see the One Power.

And since such a thing wasn't that hard to grasp, and Max was 14 years old, as well as quite knowledgeable about magic compared to the other three boys (Though, even Matthew was way more knowledgeable than her, with him being only seven years old), she already learned how to see the One Power.

In the first time she was able to see the One Power, Matthew told her not to look at him, instead, she took a look at her surroundings. She saw thin blue waves floating around her everywhere, after all, the One Power was just like how the air was, everywhere.

It had no ending, it traveled across everything, and was present in every corner of the world, apart from some special places. It also was floating around every living being. She first looked at herself, and found some blue lines flashing around her.

She then looked at all the other kids present, and saw that from one person to another, there was a difference in how much of the One Power was traveling around them, as well as how strong said One Power was.

Finally, she took a look at Matthew, the seven-year-old boy who kept bragging that he was blessed by the One Power, also the kid that had taught her how to see it.

Her mind stopped working for a second, she couldn't believe what she was seeing, after all, she had only seen the weak One Power floating around the kids present here, but now, she was seeing something unprecedented.

Not only were there so many blue lines of the One Power floating around Matthew, but, they were strong blue lines of the One Power, electricity traveled through them, and they whipped about the air around the boy.

It even made her lose her balance for a second, as she wasn't expecting the difference between the seven-year-old boy, and everyone else, including herself and the adults, to be this big, and frightening.

Matthew smiled as he looked at her, "Hah! See, I told you, I wasn't joking when I said that I could have a chance to reach the Dark Crow's level of power!". The young boy took the opportunity to brag some more, after all, he wasn't going to let this second chance of making Max join him get away.

But, before he could say anything more, he was stopped by Max's hand, which gestured for him to wait. Max then adjusted herself, after she had lost her composer. The 14-year-old girl, took one more glance at the incredible amount of One Power whipping around Matthew, and then said.

"I won't change my mind, not because of this, to be honest, this is beyond what I expected! But, this is only the talent you have, there is no guarantee that you will be able to train it, and sharpen it, until it becomes a weapon you can use against the Dark Crow, but even then, I don't think that I will change my mind!".

"I am sorry, but, I just don't think that this will actually succeed, because, even the Squad of Dawn, a legendary group of heroes, didn't really succeed. They only saved the world for some time, before the Black Emperor returns once again!".

"And to be blunt, I don't even think we'll reach their position, the most we will do, is probably kill some of the strongest Magicians in the Black Tower! And that's if we're very lucky, and you do actually become as strong as you're saying you will be!".

Matthew's expression dimmed a little, still, he remembered that terrible night, The Black Fire incident, the day his entire village, the village of Ronia, was destroyed, and the day when six more villages had been destroyed as well.

Since a week had already gone by, the orphanage had received the news that seven villages, from three different kingdoms, had been completely massacred, over 1500 souls were lost, and barely 15, or 18 had survived that day, three of them were Matthew, and the Manos sisters.

Aside from that, Matthew was visited once by Asvin, and the news he carried for him weren't good. His parent's corpses were not recovered. In fact, none of the six out of seven villages had corpses.

If it weren't for the destroyed buildings, and the damage done there, you might have believed that the villagers just left. Only one village had been saved from this, and, it wasn't Ronia village.

Matthew didn't know what to say to that. Max had told him about this, about how the same thing had happened with her village, yet, it didn't hit him, until it happened to him for real.

...

Today, a special thing happened, it was the first visit by the Cavias family (Aside from that one visit where Asvin came alone).

The mother, Rania, came. And with her, were, her eldest daughter, Theresia, her only son, Asvin, and her three cute little daughters, Rosin, Terria, and Sonia. The man that was in charge of running the only orphanage inside Coupitia city, took the members of the noble family, Cavias, into a big empty room.

Since he already knew that they would be coming - From one of his workers, that had met Asvin, and heard from him, that they would be visiting in a couple of days - he had prepared a room for them.

He tried to make the room as comfortable as he could, after all, this was the Cavias family, one of the strongest noble families in the entirety of the Decartium kingdom. They had the Fierce Lion as their family leader, and the people coming today, were his direct family.

If they said anything to him, every worker here would be fired, and replaced with other people. And of course, the person in charge here, couldn't let such a thing happen.

He had already been permitting some of his workers, and some lowly nobles, to use the children in secret. And people had started to notice a bit, he didn't want the Fierce Lion to notice, since his head would be cut off in the next second, not even the nobles he served could do a thing to stop that, in fact, they might even get killed as well.

Of course, aside from one, that is.

After all, when you're one of the 17 Pillars of the kingdom, you could get away, even after you commit some murders, as long as they are just commoners, or lowly nobles, like the ones served in this orphanage.

You would only have to work it out with the king later, and everything would be fine. The same thing wasn't true, when killing someone important.

Inside the room, the family sat waiting for the little boy to come. And soon, after only about three minutes or so, Matthew came through the door. Before he could even realize who had come, he was already swarmed by Rania, and Theresia. After which, the two little girls, the Manos sisters, also came to give him a hug.

Matthew felt very happy at this moment, since he had really missed them these past few days. They talked for close to an hour that day. Rosin was a little angry, since her father still hadn't accepted her request to let her be a Magician.

As for the Manos sisters, they showed Matthew all the techniques they had learned over this week. They were very proud of themselves, for being this strong already. Time went by quickly, and the entire room bustled with laughter and happiness.

Matthew had a wonderful day with the family of Cavias's visit, and he had even been giving a bag of sweets to eat. When they finally left, he overheard big brother Vin talking to the manager of the orphanage.

"The sweets are his, and, it seems like he's having fun here, let that continue, or else, I will be the one to kill you! I've heard some rumors about what you're doing, and for your sake, I hope they are just that, rumors!". With that, the family of Cavias left.
