"As the unsatisfaction with the mayor's current policies remain among large groups of the population, the protests outside of the prefecture continue. Since Shibuya has been quarantined, many have lost faith in Tokyo's current administration..."

I was awaken up by the voice of the anchor in the news channel. Looking out the window, the sun had barely appeared behind the dark rain clouds in the horizon above Hinohara forest. "That girl is already up watching TV..." I thought.

"Eileen, could you turn down the volume?"

I asked with my eyes half open due to having just woken up, but there was no one in the living room of the traditional japanese house. Accessories, make up, clothes and female underwear were spread all over the place. I sighed.

"How can she be so messy?" I said to myself.

I'm not a morning person at all, so after turning off the TV I pondered going back to my room, but a pleasant smell coming from the kitchen caught my attention.

"Zeph! Finally up, ya sleepyhead!"

"E-e-e-Eileen!" I stuttered in disbelief. "What the hell are you wearing?!"

"Oh, an apron?"

"Yeah, but why are you wearing nothing beneath it?!"

The very long blonde hair of the elf girl covered most of her back, even so I could still see the curves in her body and the corners of her breasts and buttlocks. While glaring at me with pleading sky blue eyes, she smiled and bit her lips.

"Humm.. does that matter? I think I was just lazy. Just sit down, will ya? Breakfast is almost ready." She said, kissing the tip of my nose and turning back to her cooking.

Her aim is certainly to kill me with cuteness!

Indeed, the vision in front of me is nothing more than something out of an anime cliche - however, I'm no anime protagonist.

While she was cutting some vegetables, I surprised her by embracing her from behind!

"H-hey that's dangerous!" She said as I imobilized her hand with the kitchen knife while sofitly biting the tip of her pointy ears. "S-stop it!" She begged.

"What are you blushing for? You knew very well that this would happen, you lewd elf!"

"I-i'm not lewd, this is just--! Stop it or I will kill you!"

Ignoring her pleas, I sleazed my hand through her waist to the piercing in her belly button, and as my hand started to go down her expression changed completely. She grabed me by the collar of my pajamas and, fiercely looking into my eyes, shouted:

"I'm tired of telling you: if you want this body, you gotta defeat me first! I refuse to be rode by a man weaker than me!"

This again! I let out a disapointed sigh.

"Then could you at least wear clothes around me?! Stop with the teasing!"

"If you want me to stop, then defeat me! Otherwise, just shut up and sit down! Breakfast is almost ready."

This girl is going to be the death of me!

Yeah, my girlfriend is a bit strange, to say the least.

I was told that there were some problems with her personality reassignment during her summoning, so she "adapted way too well to the local culture", which means she is now a gyaru high elf whose behavior can range from very sweet, to a girl raised in a orc biker gang... I know that doesn't make any sense but it's the only way I can describe it.

It's pretty clear that she likes me, but she also has this crazy idea that I must prove myself stronger than her if I want to move any further than just kissing. The problem is that I simply can't fight her seriously! I mean, what kind of guy would be able to duel his own girlfriend seriously?! Oh, and she doesn't share that restraint at all. She almost killed me the last time!

What's more, even if I could go all out on her I genuinely don't know if I can defeat her. She's a master elementalist, meaning she can conjure firestorms on me all day while having no elemental weakness whatsoever. That's cheating against an ice user!

She finally took everything she had just prepared and made the table in front of us. It was a typical japanese breakfast: rice and miso soup, and ohitashi (boiled vegetables) served as side dishes. She also made a bit of Natto for herself only because I don't eat soy.

She then held her hashi with a bit of rice and extended it to me:

"Say 'ahhhh"..."

It's a bit embarassing, but I opened my mouth to accept the food.

"Oh, I see that you two are getting along as always."

After entering unnanounced in our house, a black haired girl wearing a black japanese school uniform said with her usual emotionless expression. It was Sanae Ichinose, our "master".

"Ahhh!"

Eileen jumped off in surprised and ended up shoving the food aggressively in my mouth. "Coff! Coff! Coff!"

The murderous stare Eileen trew at Ichinose-ojousama would have scared the shit out of a demon general:

"How dare you barge in our love nest without knocking?! Do you have a death wish?!"

"Technically, this house is not yours." Unlike me, the young miss was unphased by the elf's murderous intent. "Be quick or we will be late for school." She concluded and left through the front door.

I looked at the clock on the wall, it was almost 7am.

"This bitch...!"

"Hey, calm down. She's right, we gotta be quick."

We finished our breakfast and got ready for school, wearing the same uniform as the miss (though mine was the masculine counterpart of course). We left the house, which was one of the guest house's of the miss' large property, to find her buttler holding the door of the limousine open for us, and then we departed for yet another school day.

This is how most of my mornings have been as of late. I have become a "pawn" of the Ichinose household after they summoned me back to Earth a few months ago.

Pawns are individuals who are summoned from other words to serve the interests of those called Masters, the ones capable of performing the summon spell. We are called that because there is a powerful spell that binds us to the will of the master, in such a way that gives the master control over the availability of most of our powers. Masters can only wield such power over their respective pawns.

This control also makes it easier for masters to use other spells on their pawns, like a paralyzing spell for example. Normaly I would be immune to it, but Sanae can use it on me due to her ability to interfere in my mana flow.

That said, with a few exceptions, earthlings can only wield simple spells. Because we came from worlds were magic is ingrained in the very dna of its inhabitants, we retain our ability to wield those powers just like we did in our worlds even if we shift dimensions.

This means that pawns are the most powerful weapons in this day and age, and many countries, companies and even underworld organizations now have them, although our population is still extremely low compared to that of regular humans.

Both Eileen and I were summoned by Sanae herself, but there are other pawns in her household who were summoned by her relatives. The buttler, as well as some maids and security guards, are her father's pawns.

"How did it come to this?" I thought as Eileen leaned on my shoulder as we sat on the luxurious limousine seat.

It's utterly revolting to be treated as a slave, specially after I spent basically a lifetime being treated as a hero back in Alrya. I'm sure my friends feel the same way.

I looked at Sanae, who was reading a book titled "Revolt Against the Modern World", by Julius Evola, seemingly without a care in the world. She's a very strange girl, one that rarely shows any emotions or impulses, almost like a robot. Needless to say, I never know what she is thinking about and, above all, I hate that she has power over us.

She did, however, told me something that almost quelled my desire to revolt, at least for the time being. My participation in the proxy wars would make it easier for me to find my missing friends, as they are most likely to be in the same situation as myself. Not only that, most battles we will face will take place in areas called Voids, which are sepparate spaces within Earth, like parallel dimensions, which some of us aren't even allowed to leave. Ever.

As a free man, I would be given the choice to be sent back to Alrya or to live a normal life here on Earth, but I won't have access to these parallels spaces without the contract of the summoning - the same contract that binds my powers to my summoner. What if I leave, but my friends are stuck somewhere within a Void? How would I reach them? I would have to form a contract with another master, which would lead me back to square one.

Moreover, not that it matters much, but Sanae herself claims to be being forced as a master. She says most masters are. Although there was no sign of lying in her eyes in everything that she said, and she even allowed Eileen to use mind reading on her, I can't believe her just yet because she refused to elaborate further on her claims.

Actually, everything could all still be a lie, but we must at least have some stronger evidences before making any harsh moves. Besides, it's a long way until Eileen and I have enough credits to buy our freedoms so, for now, it would just be a waste of time to dwell on our feelings of anger and just do nothing.

Lastly, there's the whole personality meddling thing that I still have no idea what it truly means.

This is why I must endure this situation if I want to have any answers and any chance of fiding my friends to get them back to their world.

But looking at Eileen's tender face leaning on me while she drowse...

"At least not everything is bad."

- Meanwhile, somewhere else -

"What is this...?"

I felt something holding onto my arms and legs. I'm bound by some sort of device, but it's too dark to see and my night vision has been somehow deactivated.

"These sigils, how odd... humm... I see..."

It's a bounding spell, but from another reality. What kind of entity has the power and the courage to trap me? Have the gods finally descended to interfer directly in my matters? Or is this the result of the Hero's plan B?

No... it's something else. I cannot feel the Hero's or his companions' energy. Rather, it's not that I can't feel it, I'm simply not capable of. Something is draining my power.

...

The place begins to lighting up with small lights in rapid succession, revealing an old underground church that appears to have been repurposed as a cage. I do not reckognize the gods depicted on the decorated walls.

Energy flows through wires and strange mechanisms placed around me. I can tell this technology is of a type that not even the elder dwarves would be able to replicate.

So, what's most likely happening...

"Another world. Indeed, I was summoned." I said to myself.

Light suddenly appears from a machine before me. It's the effigy of a world glowing in spectral form. I cannot feel any magic comming from it; rather, it's natural energy.

"This is most likely not a specter at all, but a projection created through technology. Impressive."

"You are clever. As expected of a Demon Lord."

A lowly human speaks, comming from the door at the end of the hall. Male, caucasian features and sharp eyes, but certainly a fool for daring to appear in my presence without even lowering his head.

"Speak your demand, human, and I shall decide how quickly you will die."

"Wow, scary!" The human replied in a cynical tone. He dares mock me?! "Lord Rorom of Helgard, allow me to introduce myself: my name is Eric Von Fritz, and I'm your new master. You will fight my battles and face my enemies, and you will do so voluntarily after you hear my proposal."

The shackles begin to tear; the temple is trembling. My rage cannot be contained.

"You shall not die, Eric the Fool, you will live to be tormented by my-- Hrrrr"

Something has restrained my throat, like invisible giant hands! I have never felt this kind of weakness, no one has ever touched me without my consent. My specter trembles, something beyond the void pierces it.

"As you should know by now, you're in no position to threaten me. But soon you won't have to."

I could not speak or cover my hearing while I looked at him with such ferocious rage that blood leaked through the corner of my eyes.

But when he began to speak... it cannot be... I could not believe my ears. How come a mere human have this kind of knowledge? No, this is no mere human. To think that something this magnificent would be possible.
I now understand what he means.

Me, Rorom the Old One, has found a human that is worthy of fealty. Astounding!

After agreeing to join his cause, I was freed and could feel my powers coming back. I walked down the hall and through the door, which led to a gargantuan cave, where a terrible legion has been gathered.

Dark Lords from unknown worlds; vampires and demons, specters and eldritch beings of the void. They weren't many, but three or four of them could conquer Alrya many times over. I have never seem such power concentrated in one place, not even in the depths of my world's very lifeforce.

They glared at me in a way that no one has did since the elden days. As my equals.

"This, Lord Rorom..." the human named Eric said. "Is the beginning of my revolution."
