"I've lived fifteen years on Earth, then more seventeen years on Alrya after I was reborn. Glad I don't look 32 at all."

Is what I was thinking while looking at myself in the mirror of the perfectly white room.

Everything was white. From the toothbrush to the toilet and the walls and ceiling and my clothes. A perfectly cubic room with a large mirrored window, a bed and an also white surveillance camera, and no exit door.

It's been hours since I woke up, but who knows for how much time I was unconscious.

If I had to guess, this is probably some government secret facility where they isolated an alien boy that appeared out of nowhere in the middle of Japan's busiest avenue.

At this point, I can't really say I'm surprised about my current situation, given all the scientifically impossible events I've witness up till now. What is really bothering me is that I have no memory of how I ended up here.

The last thing I remember was telling Eleanore that we were on Earth. Everything after that is just undiscernible glimpses of strange faces and places. I was alone, had no idea how I ended up here, let alone what happened to my friends.

"Hey, somebody show up already!" I demanded. "Just tell me what's going on!" I yelled while moving from the surveillance camera to the mirrored window, thinking that there may be people observing from the other side.

I tried once again to raise my energy, but to no avail. Something is interfering, I can feel something blocking me - or rather, draining me; it's a fainty yet intense feeling, like a toilet plunger on my forehead sucking my mana out.

I'm beginning to suffocate in this place.

While I was thinking that, gaps in the wall began to appear in a retangular direction, revealing a door from which rays of light slowly invaded the room. Finally! I immediately rushed through it, just to find another cubic white room.

This one was empty and, as the door behind me closed, water started to splash everywhere through splinkers that appeared on the ceiling.
This looked like some sort of cleaning room, the type you would see on a facility with biological danger, and this liquid is probably not water at all.

As the shower finished as quickly as it started, gaps appeared on the walls to dry me up with a sudden torrent of air.

Yet another door to yet another room opened, but this one had only a single closet and, to my surprise, my full gear was inside, including my trusted ice spear, Alva.

I equiped myself and followed through the next door, which finally seemed to be the last one.

Outside, there was a large containment room which appeared to have been made with very advanced technology. It had cubic dimensions, but was bigger, with at least thirty square metters. One of the walls had a logo that stated "EXODUS".

Through large glass windows near the top, scientists moved about around several monitors and hologram screens, discussing amongst themselves while observing me.

I could feel my energy comming back; whatever was blocking me had been deactivated. I don't know if these guys have any idea of what I'm capable of, but releasing me was a huge mistake. I'm out of here.

Assuming my combat stance, I prepared to launch myself against that window, knowing I could break through it regardless of what kind of material it was made.

I prepared to jump, but my body didn't respond!

I suddenly couldn't move, like bound by a paralization spell. I felt a strong light through the corner of my eye and looked in its direction to see that a door had opened at the opposite end of the room.

A teenage girl came walking in my direction, wearing what appeared to be expensive clothing. Her hands shone with a faint and familiar light that denounced that she was the one conjuring the bounding spell.

No one was ever able to paralyze me! That should be impossible! Regardless, that was clearly indeed a paralyzing spell and I couldn't move, so there was no denying that she was somehow able to do what not even an arch wizard could.

It doesn't make sense. How can she be using magic on Earth?! Let alone magic this powerful!

"Release me! Now!" I demanded as the girl continued to walk calmly towards me. "You seriously don't know who you are messing with. You won't be able to keep the spell for long."

"Zeph Rygard, hero of Alrya, slayer of demons, the hope of the free peoples. A knight who can take a dragon head on by himself." She replied with a confident and somewhat professional look on her face. "I know exactly who I'm messing with."

Her doll like face looked around sixteen years old. She walked with a gracious confidence, flaunting very long straight dark hair and dark eyes under perfectly symmetrical bangs covering her forehead. Needless to say, she was exceedingly beautiful.

"You are the one who lacks understanding of your own situation. Am I wrong?" She asked.

"If you know about me, then you must know about my friends. Where are they?"

"Sorry, but I can't answer that just yet--"

"Don't mess with me!" I interrupted her. "First you kidnap me, then you lock me up and take my powers away! I have the right to know!"

I looked in her eyes. She didn't look like she had any special powers besides the paralysing magic, yet she displayed no hesitation whatsoever. It seems she is used to dealing with people like me.

I have to keep my composure if I want to generate an opening for escape.

"I will answer if you let me. But one thing at a time. Is that ok with you?"

I nodded in response.

"First, let me introduce myself: my name is Sanae Ishinose, and I represent the Ishinose clan within Exodus corporation. Putting it in a way that you can understand, Exodus is like a guild with global influence that agglomerates other smaller guilds under its wing. Although different guilds have different beliefs and ideologies, Exodu's interests are purely financial. The reason we summoned you here is because you are to become one of its soldiers, in order to eliminate the competition. Do you understand?"

I looked at her with a confused look. I know what a corporation is since I originally came from Earth, but, as I suspected, it doesn't seem like she knows that. So I will feign ignorance for the time being and let them think that I don't understand this world. That way they are more likely to underestimate my ability to escape.

"So you want me to fight for your masters? Why would I do that?"

"Because you want to return to your homeland. Fight for us and you might buy your freedom."

"I have a better idea: I will destroy your guild and force your sorcerers to send me back after I find my friends. What about that?"

"You should have realized by now that we have the means to control you. You will either fight for us or you will never leave that white room again."

"Shouldn’t you be using this controlling spell on your 'competition' instead? I mean, if you are that powerful."

"We would if we could, but our enemies also have their own 'controlling spells'. As I said, I will explain one thing at a time. For now, what you have to know is that you are property of Exodus and will be working directly under my command. As you can see, I have almost entire control over your body; but don't get me wrong, I will only control you as far as it is necessary for my safety and to ensure that you will do your job, and I assure you that you will be properly rewarded for your achievements."

This whole time I've been trying to resist the spell, but it was useless. A paralyzing spell of this level used for this long, by a girl that isn't even a magician. Many things don't make sense, but it seems that for now I have no other choice but to go with the flow.

"Assuming what you said is true, what exactly will I have to do to earn my freedom then?"

"Glad you asked."

She then briefly explained that for now I'd just have to start attending some school... not any normal school though, but a school especificaly built for what she called "pawns" (summoned people like me) and their masters. The school is meant to teach both masters and their pawns so that they would be fit to engage in the so called "Proxy War", where they compete for territory, resources and influence.

After that, she left the room to talk with the scientists, then came back and took me through the facility for what felt like an eternity, with heavily armed guards accompanying us.

We left the facility through an elevator that led to what looked like a private airport, where a limusine awaited for us.

- Present day -

"Man, you not only get to date the school's top beauty, but your master is the school's second top beauty! I can't believe your luck!"

A red haired young man complained as we sat down in the school's dining hall for lunch time. Eileen was laughing laudly in a table at the opposite end of the hall, having a cheerful conversation with her girlfriends from the volleyball team, while Sanae was drinking tea by a fountain along with other masters at the external atrium, a place reserved for the elite students and their pawns only.

"Lars, last week you said that Sanae was the top beauty. Why did she fall into second place now?"

Lars' eyes widened. "R-really...? Well, it can't be helped, that's a very hard question..."

As he began to seriously introspect into the subject, I sensed someone walking towards me.

He was tall and athelic, wore piercings on his left ear, a spiky haircut dyed blonde and barely bothered to put on his uniform. He was being followed by three other delinquent guys and two girls who didn't dress modestly at all. Eileen used to hang out with these girls, but their relationship became weird after she started dating me.

The man stormed his palm on our table, almost breaking it. I know him very well.

"Treyll. How are you, old friend?" I greeted, trying the best I could to fake a smile.

The other students all looked in our direction and started wispering amongst themselves. Eileen saw it too and got up, but her friends knew better than to let her interfer.

"You bether not quit on me like last time, traitor!" Treyll shouted. "And you better go all out too, otherwise it wouldn' be fun crushing you." I just stared at him without saying anything as he left with his lackeys. "See you at gymn class." He finished without looking back.

I lowered my head and held my forehead, wondering why it came to this.

As you can see, a lot has happened since we arrived. I became a servant, went back to being a student, my best friend hates me... and I still don't know where my other friends are.

All because of this stupid "proxy war".
