DISCLAIMER: I tried to write this story in third person point of view. It proved too difficult for me. I’ve changed back to my usual first person point of view. I went and converted chapters 1-3 to first person. I’m sorry if you don’t like this decision.

CHAPTER 4

I was somewhat more comfortable with the robe that had been given to me.  Walking down the halls in a blanket would have sucked.  The hallways of the academy or school were a mix of modern and fantasy decor.  It wasn’t full blown Hogwarts, but it was close.  My black robe fluttered as Eleanor pulled me to the laboratory to meet David, who was supposed to prove what I already knew. The lab wasn’t all that far from the room that they had summoned me to, so we were lucky not to run into any other people.  The lab was filled with glass beakers full of colorful liquid and those odd contraptions where liquid would run through swirly glass tubing and drip into a container.  I wasn’t a chemist, so I had no clue what these things were called.  It shocked me I remembered the word beaker.  A short man stood at the other side of the room, looking at something through a microscope.  He wore a green smock.

“David, we’re sorry to barge in like this, but we need your help,” Eleanor announced.

David grunted and turned toward us and cocked a brow.  This guy was some sort of dwarf and wore glasses that rested on the bridge of his nose.  Short black hair covered his head with a matching thick mustache.  He slid his glasses into the proper position and plodded forward.

“Who do we have here? I’ve never seen you before in the halls of Starfire Academy?”

Eleanor opened her mouth but was cut off immediately by the headmistress.  “Eleanor and Petra took the Testament of Zihra from the academy archives.  They stated they performed a ritual to summon a human to our world.  Personally, I feel that this is an idiotic prank. However, they are quite adamant that this man is indeed a human.  I need to know for sure.  Can you help us with that?”

“How in the name of the gods did you get your hands on the Testament of Zihra?” David asked the girls.

The headmistress scoffed. “The girls will not reveal that to me, but there will be an investigation. You can rest assured of it. These books aren’t toys to be played with.”

David placed his hands behind his back and circled me.  The dwarf abruptly grabbed my hand.  He looked at the palm and tilted his head to the side, then nodded. “Very interesting. Follow me.”

I nodded and walked behind him like a brainless zombie. I had to be in a dream, albeit the most vivid dream of my life.

“Hold out your arm,” David demanded kindly.

I extended my arm, and he slid up the baggy sleeve.  He lifted a glass syringe from the table and plunged the large-gauge needle into a vein at the bottom of my right bicep.  My armed jolted a little from the sudden stabbing pain.  He pulled the stopper on the syringe and filled the tube with my dark veinous blood.  He retracted the syringe and looked at the wound left by the thick needle.  Blood seeped from my vein and the small hole closed in a couple of seconds.

My eyes widened.  “What the hell?”

“Interesting indeed,” David replied.

The headmistress moved closer. “What?”

“The wound healed on its own quickly.  I used a much thicker needle that was needed in my extraction to test this.  Now, I’ll test the blood.  If you’ll excuse me.”

The dwarf turned to his table and picked up a bottle of clear liquid, and poured a few ounces into a small beaker.  He held the syringe over the clear liquid and pressed the plunger.  My blood squirted into the liquid. A chemical reaction took place a split second after my blood came into contact with the mysterious liquid.  The blood swirled slowly and picked up speed.  The mixture glowed a bright red hue after a few seconds of quick rotation.  David held the beaker in front of his eyes to analyze it more closely.  I glanced at the three women beside me and saw surprised expressions on their faces.  They reflected the glow of the liquid in their eyes, almost making them look like they were on fire.

“Hmm,” the dwarf mumbled as he poured some of the blood mixture onto a glass slide.  He slowly placed the slide under the microscope and looked closely for about ten seconds.  There was silence in the room as we all awaited his findings.

“Yes, just as I presumed,” David announced under his breath.

“What?  What did you assume?”  the headmistress asked with frustration in her voice.

He lifted his eye from the lens and picked up a cloth from the table.  He wiped his hands slowly.

“What?” the headmistress asked sharply.

“It appears that this man is indeed a human. This is quite extraordinary.”

Petra and Eleanor clapped their hands with excitement.

“Tell me something I don’t know,” I interjected.

The headmistress exhaled loudly. “This can’t be.”

“I’m as surprised as you are.  However, this man has self-healing abilities and his blood is saturated with omega mana, which is only possible if he has an omega chakra.  The only creatures that have an omega chakra and the abilities to do omega magic are humans.”

“We did it! We really did it!” Petra chirped.

The headmistress looked me up and down and shook her head.  “This is unbelievable. Humans are mythical creatures that I thought didn’t exist.  I thought they were nothing but stories.”

“Well, this man proves they do indeed exist.  I’m in awe that these girls were able to perform such a ritual.  Powerful wizards, witches, and mages have attempted this ritual throughout the centuries and have been unsuccessful.  How two students at the Starfire Academy could pull this off is unbelievable. You should be proud of yourselves.”

“So you’re telling me that I’m part of a rare race of people?  Where I come from, there are only humans. We aren’t special at all. Magic doesn’t exist on my world. I don’t know what you all are, but there are no species outside of fantasy stories that look like you.  What are you exactly?”

David cleared his through. “I’m a mountain dwarf.”

“I’m a wood elf,” Petra added.

“I’m a vampire,” Eleanor replied with a fang-filled grin, which sent a chill down my spine.

“I’m a wood elf as well,”  the headmistress replied.

“Do you have a name or are you only known as headmistress?” I asked.

“My name is Anastasia, headmistress Anastasia,” she replied with emphasis on the headmistress.

“I’m human.  Which I already knew.  Now what?”
