Chapter 20: I Am His Partner

Lucas and Arthur just talked casually about people, the environment, and other things. Even though Lucas has nothing much to talk about, he still had a good conversation with him. Also, he learned plenty of things about common sense in this world.

Apparently, reputation and backing are important. Even those who are cultivators in the first stage can be arrogant at times.

He also learned some other things, like the standard and people's perspectives when they see someone. Of the world's population, 40% are cultivators, and the rest are mortals. The reason? It takes much wealth to become a cultivator.

There was also a reason why cultivators look down on people who they can't feel any aura. The majority of cultivators are arrogant. They seem to not be able to get rid of their superiority complexes that they get after having power.

When it comes to cultivators, you shouldn't offend those who are in the peak of the first stage or the second stage and higher. They reached that cultivation base because of their background, so if you are a rogue cultivator, even if you are proficient, you shouldn't offend them because their backing rage will come after you.

It was unreasonable, and so Lucas could just ignore it.

But it was the world's nature. Lucas knew that power can make people unreasonable.

While the whole conversation was on-going, Pearl and Felicity were just quiet for the whole session. As Felicity was quite fierce towards Arthur, she didn't bother to talk with him, and it was understandable for both subjects.

However, Pearl was quiet for a reason that she was wary of Felicity. It was her first time seeing another beauty, much less one wearing an average robe which was unfit for her face. Felicity could be misunderstood as a slave.

Pearl just stayed silent for the whole moment, and as she could not fit in with the conversation, Lucas pondered why she was quiet.

"Pearl, are you perhaps unwell?" Lucas asked.

Even though they weren't close enough to have a casual conversation, Lucas can't act the practice of having a respectful tone since he doesn't know how to act as one.

He was immortal, and from what he could remember, he was the strongest man alive, which made him unwilling to bow to anyone. And his habits are also unchangeable.

Being in a different world makes him unable to blend in with emotional or conversational practices since both premises are imbedded in his system.

Pearl snapped back to reality and looked at Lucas with a dazed look. When Lucas saw it, he just made a soft chuckle.

"Don't mind me. I thought you were unwell since you were preoccupied." Lucas said.

"Ah… haha… Sorry if I was absent-minded. Forgive me." Pearl said with an awkward tone in her voice, feeling bothered by his words.

Well, she wasn't really absent minded. In fact, her attention was all over Felicity, which made her bothered by her gaze.

Felicity was aware that the bothering gaze was coming from Pearl. But she did not mind it since she didn't want to be rude to Lucas and Arthur's humble conversation.

Moments later, Lucas was finally done with talking to Arthur. In fact, their topics were all meaningless and all for mere entertainment. Lucas didn't bother to extract any information since he had Felicity, who was more knowledgeable in cultivation than him.

With it in mind, Lucas stood up and started saying his farewell.

"Thank you for the time, Arthur. But right now, we are going to continue our journey, " he said.

Arthur released a small smile then stood up as well. "Thank you for your time as well, young master Lucas," he said, bowing.

"Ay… I already said that you should stop calling me young master. We're friends at this point, right?" Lucas cut.

"Y-Yes… thank you for befriending me, Lucas."

"Hahaha. That's good. Now I have a friend in this world. You're a cultivator too, right?" Lucas asked.

"Yes I am." Arthur answered in a small voice.

"That's good! It means you'll live longer than 80 years, so we will still meet in the future." Lucas said, then looked at Pearl, who was absent from the talk.

Then he continued, "As for you Pearl, stay healthy since you are still vulnerable to a disease."

Pearl bowed after hearing it. As she felt the responsible words of Lucas, she couldn't help but feel special. She smiled and said, "Thank you, young master."

However, Lucas cut her immediately. "Don't call me young master too. Call me Lucas."

Since Lucas knew that he was way stronger than anyone in this mansion, he remained humble since it was petty to be proud of that.

"Y-Yes, Lucas." Then she remained silent, making Lucas ponder again why she was remaining silent for the whole session.

Even though he didn't know Pearl well, it was still a topic to be questioned since he felt she was supposed to be talkative.

He wasn't sure, it was just a feeling for him from the experience he had lived through.

"Pearl, do you have something bothering you? Ask me, I will answer it."

Arthur was stiffened by hearing it. It can't be that his daughter is being too rude to their guest?

"Uhm… if you don't mind me asking, what's your relationship with this beauty?" she asked in a reluctant manner.

Arthur's horror returned again, looking at his daughter in disbelief. Why is she asking it? Isn't it obvious that they are together?

Lucas was just speechless. He doesn't know what to answer. When he looked at Felicity, waiting for her answer instead, he saw her with an unbothered expression.

There's no reason to be reluctant in the first place. However, Lucas doesn't know how to explain it in words. She is his companion? But Lucas doesn't know the level of their relationship.

In fact, he considers Felicity to be a member of his family because they have to share life experiences.

"She is…"

But before he could say it, Felicity cut him with her own words.

"I am his partner. We will enter the 10 Judgement Hell's Path together," she said.

Pearl was speechless. Is she feeling jealousy towards Felicity?

She felt a sting within her heart, looking at the both of them with a depressed expression. She realized she really doesn't have a chance. She could just adore a person and remain that way as there is a huge disparity between them.

Lucas lived at the top, while she was just an average woman that came from a wealthy family.

There wasn't anything special about her. Truth be told, she was confident at first in her beauty, but when she saw the stunning beauty of Felicity, her pride crumbled.

Lucas didn't bother with what Felicity said. He agreed with it since it was really the truth that they were both partners in the cultivation world. They would ascend together since Felicity was helping her.

"That's amazing, Lucas! 10 Judgement Hell's Path is a trial to ascend to the Upper Heavens. And I don't have a doubt that you could achieve passing through it. Imagine you were such a powerful individual in such a young age." Arthur said.

"Hm? Young age? Did I tell you my age? I don't remember." Lucas responded.

Felicity looked at Lucas with anticipation as she also didn't know Lucas age. She didn't have a chance to ask him.

"You really didn't say it. Maybe you are now 30, right?"

Lucas was silent for a moment. If he compares himself to his previous world, he must be 18 since this was his appearance when he was 18. And he became immortal when he reached 50 years old.

"I am still 18." Lucas said, deciding that he would start living in this world as 18 years old.

However, he didn't expect the reaction of the people around him. Is it really a big deal that he's still young? But he can't get his words back.

He also doesn't know the average age of cultivators in this world and what is considered 18 years old in cultivation base.

'Good Heavens! He is still 18, yet he is this powerful?... Wait! I should not believe him since this may be just a lie on his part in front of inferiors.' Felicity thought for a second before returning to his composed expression.

'18?! He was younger than I expected! Does this mean that he was so talented in cultivation?!' Pearl thought.

'Is this just another façade of Lucas? I don't believe that he is 18, since, from my experience, no powerful like him should be 18!' Arthur cried inwardly after sinking into what Lucas revealed.

"1-18?! You are still young, Lucas. It will make my age cry. Hahaha." Pearl joked, but her laugh was obviously fake.

"Huh? How old are you, by the way?"

"That's rude." Felicity and Pearl said.

Both of them were stunned that they jinxed their words. However, this could also mean that they have similarities with each other.

But, before Felicity could react more, her face drastically frowned, and Lucas immediately noticed that something was wrong.

"What's the problem?" Lucas asked her.

Felicity looked at everyone before revealing what she noticed. "The city was surrounded by plenty of individuals. In fact, they look more like a group of bandits."

Lucas was surprised by her words that he could not ignore the word that described their number.

'The city was surrounded? This city is wide enough for 5,000 people to live.'

Despite the fun suddenly ruined by Felicity's notice, Lucas didn't mind it as this was a way more important matter to settle.

"Then how many are there in this group you are talking about?"

Everyone wore a serious face, waiting for Felicity's another revelation. They didn't question the authenticity since it came from a person with power. Since they don't know the process of her knowing it, they can trust them since Lucas is Arthur's friend at this moment.

Well, on Lucas's side, he knows how Felicity knew it.

Felicity was silent for a moment before calculating.

"It's around 10,000.." She said, making the room full of stunned expressions.
