Samantha wanted to ignore Devyn so much as she didn't have the time to waste on her. And even if she did, she still didn't want to talk to her. 'But where's the fun in that?' She thought.
The first time that she met Devyn Nam in the hospital, she already felt that she was somehow a strange person. It was as if she wasn't merely just a doctor, the way she moved and the way she looked at and observed people.
Samantha took her time and finished washing her hands before she grabbed a paper towel behind Devyn. The doctor's brow twitched a little as she was obviously being ignored, and she doesn't like being ignored.
After throwing the paper towel in the trash, Samantha faced her. "Good evening, Dr. Nam." She said plainly.
'This bitch.' Devyn thought.
"I have seen the news, congratulations." She said unwillingly. For her, it was ironic to give her wishes to Samantha. But it was all that she could do at that moment.
Samantha didn't respond and just gave her a very slight smile. She changed her mind, she really didn't want to talk to this woman. 'Screw fun.'
"I should get back. Have a good evening." She said very briefly before she walked past Devyn and headed to the door. She didn't mind staying in the restroom but she didn't like to breathe the same air as her. Even though she doesn't know Devyn Nam, her gut feeling was telling her to stay away from this woman.
"Ms. Kim, now that you married Daniel, how does it feel?" Devyn asked and Samantha stopped in her tracks just before she reached the door. She felt a slight prick in her stomach when she heard her. She didn't like her question.
She turned around to face her, smiling as she answered with her arms crossed, "It's perfect." There was nothing else that she wanted to say.
Devyn lightly chuckled. Walking towards the door, she stopped when they were shoulder to shoulder. She had the urge to push Samantha to the pit of no turning back by telling her everything about Daniel Cho but she held herself back. Even so, she couldn't help to slip in a little, "Tell me… Ms. Kim, what will you do if you learned about Daniel's past? Will you continue to stay with him?" Leaning in a little closer to her ear, Devyn spoke very slowly, enunciating every word clearly "What if… Daniel turned out to be… someone-"
"Stop." Samantha breathed a sigh and scoffed "What are you doing, Dr. Nam?"
Listening to her antics, Samantha got tired of it very easily. She already wanted to go back to her husband's side but this woman was keeping her. So before Devyn could finish her sentence, she had already stopped her.
Devyn's smug look was replaced with a perplexed expression. Her eyes went big and her jaw clenched. 'Did she just interrupt me?'
Samantha saw her reaction and she was extremely satisfied. With a smile on her face, she crossed her arms and decided to give her a piece to shut her up, "Dr. Nam, who are you to ask me those questions? First of all, you and I are not friends. So you do not have any right to ask me that or anything at all. Second, what does it have to do with you whether or not I will stay with my husband? He is mine, not anybody else's and certainly not yours! So why should I tell you?"
Devyn choked on her words, she wanted to say something in response but was taken aback by Samantha's sharp tongue. She felt her hair stand just by listening to the woman in front of her. Devyn was not in any way a coward; even Daniel Cho knew that. But what made her confused was how, for the life of her, she couldn't talk back to Samantha at that moment. It was as if her words were shoved back in her throat.
Samantha Kim chuckled mockingly as she turned around to leave the restroom. Opening the door, she paused for a bit and tilted her head with a smile on her gentle face as she remarked, "Oh, and by the way… Stop calling my husband by his first name so casually, I don't like it.
"I'm a jealous wife. I don't really like violence but I might not be able to control myself next time.
"Also, I'm married. It's Mrs. Samantha Cho." She ended and exited the restroom, leaving Devyn Nam with her pathetic thoughts. Samantha didn't actually mind being called Samantha Kim. She even felt that it was only her mother-in-law who should be called Mrs. Cho. But she wanted to spite Devyn by using her new title. 'How dare she ruin my mood?' She sneered in her thoughts.
When Samantha came out of the restroom, she saw Daniel walking towards her. "What took you so long? What happened?" He worried.
Shaking her head, she offered him a sweet smile. She did not think that it was necessary to tell him what happened just now. "Nothing, darling. There was a huge cockroach in the restroom, I had to kill it." She stated nonchalantly.
"A cockroach?" He questioned. How can there be an insect in this kind of restaurant? Although it wasn't the best in town, it was still listed as a two star Michelin restaurant. He started to think of complaining to the management because of it. But then he caught sight of a familiar looking woman who just stepped out of the restroom where Samantha came from.
Devyn followed her out not long after, and she heard what Samantha had just said. Being called a cockroach was definitely not something that she wanted to hear. She tried to keep her composure yet she could not help but clench her hands into fists, imagining herself lashing out at the woman who was in front of Daniel Cho. She was extremely pissed at Samantha.
Daniel somehow guessed what happened back there. He did not like that his wife met Devyn without him, knowing that if Devyn really wanted to, she could harm Samantha without batting an eye.
He looked down at Samantha and his gaze softened, "Let's go home."
"But what about your people?"
"I have already settled the bill, we don't need to stay with them after dinner." He said while he held her hand and started walking, taking her with him.
"Shouldn't I at least say goodbye to them?"She probed.
"You're not obligated." He answered as they hurriedly walked out of the restaurant.
…
Samantha was sitting on the bed with Daniel behind her. He was applying an ointment on her nape for the bump that looked like an insect bite. It didn't look like it was getting worse. Compared to the day before, it was then just reddish.
"Honey, have you talked to your grandfather lately? I mean… since that night at your parent's place?" She asked.
"He… did call me earlier when he found out about the news."
"I'm guessing he was mad."
Daniel did not respond but Samantha knew what his silence meant already. "I'm not going to work tomorrow." She added.
"Where are you going?" He glided his hands down to her arms and waited for her to answer.
Feeling determined, Samantha turned to face her husband.. "I'm going to change that old man's mind."
