It's already past eight in the evening when all of Becca's things have been moved from her old apartment to the condo that Liam found for her. The move did not take a long time since she did not have a lot of things anyway. However, because of the traffic, the moving van was delayed for almost two hours.
Liam and Becca ended up eating dinner first at the nearby restaurant before he helped her quickly arrange some stuff in her new place.
It was such a long day for Becca and she was feeling very tired after everything that she did during the day. She slumped on the sofa and her eyes wandered around the condo. She was quite surprised that Liam found her this place in a very short period of time. It was perfect for her as it was a one-bedroom unit with a nice view of the city from the large window. It was not too huge nor too small, the size was just perfect.
Her gaze darted to the left side of the room where she saw Liam hooking up the refrigerator that was already in the unit. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbow and a couple of buttons from the top were undone. His chest glistened with sweat peeked through it making Becca avert her stare to a boring box in front of her and her heart started to pound.
It's definitely not the first time that she had seen a man's chest but why was she suddenly feeling so shy? It was as if it was a sin for her to see Liam's manliness.
"I think you're all set," he said as he washed his hands in the sink.
"Ah… yeah. Thank you, Liam… You have helped me a lot today," she brushed off her thoughts and walked up to him. She offered him a bottle of water from the counter, "here."
"Thanks," he uttered before taking a sip, "So… how do you like the place? Not bad, huh?"
"Yes! It's perfect! I really can't thank you enough… I owe you for this one."
Finishing the bottled water, he wiped his mouth quickly and snapped his fingers. "How about a little housewarming? Have a drink with me and we'll call it even. What do you say?"
Becca did not mind his suggestion so she nodded in agreement, "I'm okay with drinking but… I don't have any right now. We have to buy some first," she turned around and grabbed her purse, ready to buy some alcohol at the nearby store.
However, Liam raised his hand and stopped her, "You don't need to. I have some at home. Let me go grab a few and I'll be right back," he said before he dashed out and left her place.
She was too stunned by his sudden announcement and so he followed him out, 'How could he be right back? Where is he going?'
Just as she was out of her condo unit, she saw Liam opening the door next to hers. Her eyes widened in surprise and her mouth hung open, 'What?' She quickly followed where he went and she gaped at what she saw. Behind the door where Liam went in, there was a huge fully furnished condo unit.
Becca went inside hesitantly and found him in front of an opened cupboard filled with alcohol. With hands on his waist, Liam carefully scanned and thought of bottles to pick from the selection. He heard a shuffle of footsteps from behind that made him turn his head, "Oh hey, what's your poison? I was thinking of red wine but you may want something else…?"
Crossing her arms, Becca gaped like a fish, opening and closing her mouth as she did not know how to talk at that moment. Finally finding the words to say, she questioned, "You live here?"
"Huh? Oh yeah… I have for some time now. Do you like margaritas? I can make some," he answered casually. After picking up a few bottles from the storage, he closed it up and went to her.
"You live next door, Liam. And… you… you did not bother to mention it?"
Raising his brows, he was unsure why her reaction was like this, "Uh… is that a big deal? It's not like we're living together. There's literally a wall in between."
Becca was also wondering why she was reacting this way. However, it was still surprising for her that he was living just right next to her. "I don't know?"
He laughed at her expression. It was obvious that she was quite nervous but also not uncomfortable with the thought that they are now neighbors. "Your unit has been empty for a while now. You needed a place to stay and I found you one. That's all there is to it."
Grabbing the bottle of wine from his hand, she breathed out a huff, "Fine. I love margaritas but I feel like drinking wine tonight," she said before she turned around and went back to her own place.
…
The two of them have finished a bottle and a half of wine while watching an old romantic movie that was too sappy for their liking but they were already too invested to stop watching so they decided to finish it anyway. They enjoyed the wine and the casual conversation until Becca suddenly asked him a question that she had thought in passing.
"Liam, can I ask you a question?"
"Shoot."
"Have you ever been in love? Or… I don't know, been in a really serious relationship?"
Tilting his head up as if he was thinking about something, he shook his head, "I've dated girls before but I guess I can't really say that I have experienced the kind like what my brother and Samantha have."
"Mhmm…" she nodded like she understood what he meant.
Turning his head to her, he noticed that she was deep in thoughts. "Why do you ask? What about you?"
She turned to face him and in a serious manner, she asked, "Would you believe if I tell you that I don't really know? I'm not sure."
"What do you mean? What about Joon or that… what's his name? Gabriel?"
Shaking her head, she chuckled, "His name's Gael," she said and sighed before she continued, "Hmmm… I liked Joon. He's a really nice guy but… I think our relationship wasn't really that deep. When we broke up, it was sad but I wasn't depressed. I was like… 'too bad' and then I moved on, I guess.
"Gael, on the other hand, I thought that I did because I really liked him. But after knowing Samantha and Daniel… I don't think I liked him that much. Because if I did, don't you think that I would have stayed with him despite knowing what or who he really is?"
Liam listened as she shared her thoughts. He doesn't talk about feelings like this as he did not have enough women whom he was very close with to talk about things like these. And he found it quite interesting to be able to have a glimpse of her mind.
Patting her shoulder lightly, he shared his two cents "It's only you who will know the real answer to that. But if you really didn't love him, you shouldn't feel sorry about it. I truly believe that one's feelings should not be judged and cannot be dictated either. As long as you are happy and you are not stepping on someone's foot, just do what your heart tells you."
She stifled a laugh, "As long as I'm happy huh?"
Picking up their glasses, they clinked and took a sip of their wine before returning their focus on the TV screen.
