It was Spring in Country A and the weather outside was cool and comfortable. It was neither too hot nor too cold.
Inside a large white room, Samantha stayed in bed as she was being checked by Nathan and a couple of other doctors while Seo Joon stayed at the side, patiently waiting for them to give a clear signal.
After performing several checks on her, Nathan nodded and gave her a smile. "Welcome back, Sam."
Her brother Seo Joon immediately rushed to her side and held her hand, "Hey, Dopey… do you recognize me? Can you see me clearly? Can you hear my voice? Say something…" He worried when Samantha did not respond to him.
Irritated, Samantha swallowed and knitted her brows before she softly seethed, "You are too noisy, Joon. How can I answer if you have too many questions?"
Nathan laughed and threw his head back, obviously amused by what he heard. "She really is back. Take it easy, man or you're going to put her back into a coma again."
"Sorry, I'm just excited to see you again. You've been out for a long time, I started to think I will grow old and die waiting for you to wake up."
Samantha did not hesitate and slapped her brother Seo Joon's forehead, "Did you think I was going to stay asleep that long?" She bit out.
"Aw! That hurt! You were out for three months, okay? I was worried sick." He glared but instantly softened his gaze, he could not get mad at his sister now that she was awake. Chuckling softly, Seo Joon moved closer and kissed her forehead. "I'm glad to see you again, sis."
"I miss you too, Joon-" Samantha's voice trailed off when she suddenly thought of someone the moment that his brother kissed her. 'Daniel,' she thought.
"Daniel! Where's Daniel?" She panicked.
Seo Joon and Nathan looked at each other, unsure about how to start telling her what happened.
Samantha felt that there was something off with her, she sensed that her body was not the same but apart from that, she knew that something was missing as her heart remained unsettled. But because she just woke up a few minutes ago, she was still a little bit disoriented and did not know what made her that way.
Bewildered, she looked at the two men in front of her who was now looking hesitant as if the two of them didn't want to tell her what was going on. "Why do you look like that? What happened? Where's my husband? Please call him..."
Seo Joon gulped as he did not want to break the news to her but before he could get up from the bed, Samantha caught his wrist and pulled him, "Answer me, Joon. Where is Daniel?" She scowled.
Nathan who was watching at the side, couldn't allow her to get worked up so he chimed in, "Sam, take it easy. Your body can't handle stress right now. You should calm down. We're going to tell you but you have to keep calm and try not to… feel angry… just-"
"I know! Keep calm! Whatever." She released her brother's wrist and tried to sit up but her body was still a little weak from all the lying down that she did for months.
"Just… stay in your bed." Nathan ordered. He looked and sounded serious like he was not going to leave any room for negotiation.
Somehow, Samantha already guessed from the look that they were giving her but she had to know. Her heart raced as she tried to recall the last moments that she saw Daniel but the only thing that she could remember was the last night that they slept together. The one beautiful and painful memory of them together.
Troubled, she spoke in a low voice, "Did he really divorce me?"
Hearing the hurt in his sister's voice, Seo Joon reached out to touch her hand. "Sam… there was nothing else he could do. He had to save you. You understand him, right?"
She knitted her brows and realized, "You knew… did he tell you about…" She didn't know how much her brother knew and she didn't know if it was okay to talk about it.
"Yes… everyone in the family knows already. And we all think that what he did was the right thing."
Samantha shifted her gaze away, not wanting to see her brother's worried stare. She understood that Daniel did what he thought was right to save her; after all, he loved her.
But the pain in her heart remained the same now that she knew they're no longer married. And she was hurt even more that she was not even able to see and talk to him before they separated. Was she never going to see him again?
Interrupting her painful thoughts, her brother spoke, "But that's not the only thing that you need to know…" Seo Joon's voice was soft as he lowered his head and moved his gaze onto her blanket.
Samantha did not understand the expression on her brother's face. She raised her brows and was about to ask when Nathan called her, "Sam…"
Turning her head to him, she waited for him to continue. "Hmmm?"
Nathan pursed his lips briefly before he announced, "You're twelve weeks pregnant."
The room went still. None of them spoke as the two guys waited for her reaction but she just stared back at them until she burst out laughing. "What kind of joke is that?"
But the realization hit her right after when she focused on what was wrong in her body. She knew when she woke up that there was something weird about her but she could not figure out what it was. She felt that there was something new and strange in her. Her hand moved to touch her belly abruptly and felt a bump on it.
Her eyes went wide and shock filled her face. "No way," she muttered under her breath and without warning, she flipped the blanket off of her and raised her shirt up, making the two men look away.
"Woah. A little warning maybe?" Seo Joon complained.
Samantha saw that her usually flat tummy was now raised, replaced by a bump as if there was a ball inside her stomach — she could not believe it.
Placing her hand over the bump, her heart fluttered upon feeling it; it was firm to touch yet her skin was soft at the same time that she did not know how to explain it — it was so weird for her.
Samantha was feeling both scared and happy at the same time. Her excitement filled her entire head despite feeling anxious just because of the same reason.
She was overjoyed yet also worried as she did not know what to do; everything was just too foreign for her.
"Only your family knows about this… and… we decided not to tell Daniel. We thought that it was your decision if you wanted to tell him about it." Nathan added.
Samantha heard him and she understood why they all thought so. She also did not know whether she should tell him or not. After all, they were already divorced. Though she wanted to look for him and tell him right away, she knew that it was best not to rush things considering their circumstance.
She was conflicted of how things turned out. She was extremely sad that she and Daniel were not together anymore but the joy of learning that she was carrying their baby inside of her gave her mixed feelings.
Amidst all the things that were on her mind, one thing was for sure – she was ecstatic to be a mother.
She brought her other hand up to her face to cover her mouth and tears started to well up in her eyes. "Holy crap, I'm pregnant!"
