Daniel gave the address to his penthouse to Philip and instructed him to drive towards there. When Samantha heard this, she threw a wondering look at him and thought that he just wanted them to stay separately. She was not aware that Daniel lived in his penthouse since they divorced.

Feeling uncomfortable, Samantha ordered Philip to take her home to Sapphire Gardens instead which also surprised Daniel. It had been a long time since she went there and knowing that she did not have plans on actually going to the Cliffside Villa, it left a bitter feeling on him.

Arriving back at Samantha's house after their car ride remained very silent, she took Ash inside and did not even bother inviting the other two men in. But that did not mean that Daniel did not let himself inside Samantha's place on his own.

With three men and a half inside her house, only Samantha's movements in the kitchen could be heard. She ignored the others' presence as she fixed little Ashton's milk so that she could let him nap. Daniel continued to watch her and did not dare to say anything as he observed how she moved about preparing things for their child.

The corners of his mouth slightly moved upwards when he realized how she had changed a lot. This was what he wanted to see in the future back then – Samantha becoming a mother, a mother to their child. And the sight in front of him warmed his heart. How he loved seeing her like this for their son.

After warming the milk for Ashton, she walked towards her room and without saying anything, she closed the door behind her. For some reason, Daniel grew anxious when he saw her like that. Following her, he tried to open the door but found that it was locked.

A smirk appeared on his face when he realized what she was doing.

Inside the room, she laid Ash on her bed and when she heard someone trying to open the door, she looked back and stuck her tongue out like a child only to realize that a few seconds later, the door opened and in came Daniel. She had attempted to close the door on him but forgot that Daniel had spare keys to her house.

Did he just have the keys with him all the time?

Her eyes betrayed her feelings and she was even more shocked when he strode towards the bed and carefully took Ashton in his arms.

Daniel then handed the baby over to Assistant Ahn and instructed as he stared at them, "You two, make him sleep." He shoved the milk bottle to Philip before he closed the door to Samantha's bedroom and locked it.

Ahn and Philip shared a look of bewilderment and both them had exactly the same thoughts in mind, 'What just happened?'

Dumbfounded, Assistant Ahn held little Ashton gingerly in his arms and looked at him with a teasing smile on his face. "Looks like daddy and mommy are going to give you a sibling."

Philip could not help but let out a snicker at Ahn's comments but the two of them went numb right after.

"If you don't go away, I will give you a beating." A low and dangerous voice sounded from behind the door which gave the two grown men a scare that they immediately fled and went to do their babysitting duties while silently complaining that they clearly did not remember reading this in their job description.

Finally getting the privacy that they needed, Daniel gazed at Samantha. All of his anger dissipated when he saw her glaring at him because, for some reason, he did not find it scary at all — instead, he found her alluring.

The woman in front of him looked even more gorgeous and he then figured out that the change he noticed on her body was because of her bearing a child. He studied her figure from head to toe and he felt a sense of familiarity that warmed his heart.

Turning around, Samantha refused to continue looking at him. But her action only made Daniel want to draw closer to her and so he wrapped his arms around her gently, resting his chin on her shoulder. Feeling like she needed to throw a tantrum like a child, she tried to get away from his grasp, "Go away. I thought that you don't want to touch me anymore?"

A slight smile appeared on his face when he heard her complain and he tried so hard to keep himself from laughing. "We're having a pause. Right now is an exception."

"What exception? Tch." Though she was mildly disagreeing with him, she loved feeling his warmth around her so she did not entirely push him away. She could faintly smell his fragrance from him and she had wondered why he smelled a little differently than before, but surprisingly, the smell wasn't at all unfamiliar.

"Look at me," he held her shoulders and made her turn around to face him. Brushing away a loose hair and tucking it behind her ear, he looked at her in the eyes and said, "You know that I only want the two of you to be safe."

"I know that and that's why I'm keeping my distance from you. Didn't they say that we can't be together or around each other? If I stay away from you, wouldn't that be okay then?" She furrowed her brows as she tried to explain her thoughts. "I just want to be closer to you, Daniel. At least, let me stay in the same country. I'll just keep my distance… won't that be enough?"

"Does your father even know that you are here? Your brother told me that he reprimanded you when you came back the last time."

Samantha only shook her head and bit her lip as she stared back at him.

Daniel could truly see the longing in her eyes and he understood her actions but he was still obviously very worried for her and Ash. Sighing, he wanted to kiss her. He lowered his head and just as their lips touched, her mobile phone rang.

He swallowed and pulled back, clearing his throat as both of them acted as if nothing happened. Looking at the caller ID, Daniel clenched his jaw before he answered the phone call.

"Mr. De Luca," he said as he placed the device on his ears.

Samantha's attention was perked, making her listen intently as they chatted on the phone. She noticed the change in Daniel's expression the moment that he spoke on the phone with Gael.

"Mr. Cho, the plan is already on the move and we're just waiting for a response from the other side." Gael spared no idle time.

"Copy that," he briefly answered and was about to hang up the phone when Gael continued, "One more thing, my men caught a sniff that the doctor is in your country this week."

Daniel's gaze shifted toward Samantha, meeting her widening eyes. She heard what Gael said as she stood close during the call. Daniel formed a fist in his hand. "I already know that," he said before ending the call.

When the call ended, Samantha started. "You knew that Devyn was here?" She probed but Daniel remained quiet and ran a hand on his face. It was why he was furious at her when he saw them earlier. He had received news that Devyn was spotted a few days ago and he was still looking for her.

Although Daniel was very glad to see Samantha and Ash, he felt a prick in his heart when he remembered that someone was probably lurking around the corner. Without delay, Daniel pulled her into his embrace and comforted her, "I won't let her harm you again. I promise you that."

Samantha could sense the tension in him. Returning his embrace, she replied, "I'm no longer afraid.. I have you."
