Daniel waited until Samantha fell asleep that night before he decided to reluctantly go home to his penthouse. Though he wanted to stay where his family was, there were some things that he still needed to take care of.
Before leaving, he went over to his son Ashton who was sleeping soundly in his crib just beside Samantha's bed. He lovingly looked at his son and stroke his shoulder gently before placing a kiss on his forehead and left.
He reminded Philip a few things before walking out of the house and got inside his Range Rover. "Cancel my flight tomorrow." He ordered as he checked his emails on his phone.
"Yes, boss," Assistant Ahn answered briefly.
"I'll be busier next week, bring all the appointments back tomorrow."
"Understood."
Early the next morning, Samantha felt sad that she woke up without Daniel in sight. However, she knew that it was going to be this way since their situation was not yet settled but she was glad that Ashton seemed to be in a good mood that morning as he did not throw any tantrums.
When they finished their breakfast, her home phone suddenly rang which made her nervous. Who could be calling her when she had not been in the house for a long time? She bit her lip and stared at the ringing phone on the counter.
Noticing the hesitation of her boss, Philip asked, "Would you like me to answer it for you?"
Samantha glanced at him but quickly shook her head and cleared her throat. "I-I'll get it."
Tentatively, she brought her hand up to take the receiver and brought it up to her ear. "Hello?"
"Come home." A man said through the phone and did not wait for her to respond as he had already ended the call. Although the man had only spoken two words to her, she knew very well whose voice it belonged to. It was none other than her father.
Samantha was slightly taken aback by her dad. He seemed gentle but was very abrupt as he did not even let her respond.
More importantly, he knew that she had already arrived in the country just after a day! Samantha truly believed that her father was a capable man. Though he may not have the same connections as Daniel, she knew that her father wouldn't have been successful if he did not have something up his sleeves as well.
She instantly became nervous although she had originally planned to visit her parents that day. She still felt that it was nerve wracking for her to be summoned by her father like so especially after their last conversation.
Lowering herself until she was at the same level as her son, she stroked little Ashton's hair as she thought of something and a smile appeared on her face. "Ashy, let's go see your grandparents."
The little boy smiled brightly at his mother despite not understand what she was saying.
An hour later, Philip drove them to the Kim's family estate and when they arrived, they were greeted by Mother Kim who excitedly received Ashton from Samantha.
"Hey, mom… I'm home." Samantha looked at her mother who caressed her cheek and smiled at her. "Welcome home, sweetheart."
Her mother visited her a few times in Country A and the last time that they saw each other was only last month. However, when she saw her mother at that time, she suddenly became emotional inside but she held back her tears and just forced herself to smile back.
It was as if words were not needed for the two of them to understand each other — especially that Samantha became a mother herself.
"Your father is waiting for you at the study," Mother Kim informed her.
"Is… he mad?" She asked.
With Ashton in her arms, Samantha's mother turned around and headed towards the garden to play with her grandson. "He's your father, Samantha. He's only worried about you. Go on now."
Thinking that Samantha could not delay it any longer, she breathed deeply before she headed towards the study and met with her father.
The expression on her father's face was unreadable and Samantha did not know what to say to him first. She had always been a good daughter to his father and had never given him any huge problems growing up but she knew that she made mistakes lately thus she felt really guilty when he faced her.
"Sit," Father Kim ordered in which Samantha followed obediently and sat in the chair in front of his desk.
"Dad…"
Father Kim sensed that his daughter was also having a hard time voicing out her thoughts and so he started, "I'm disappointed in you. I thought that we had an agreement but you broke my trust. Twice."
Samantha could imagine that her father must have been hurt by what she did. She knew that her father wouldn't like it at all yet she still did it anyway but even if time were to repeat, she believed that she would still do the same thing and make the same decisions.
She thought of so many things to say to her father but the only words that came out of her were, "I'm sorry, dad."
Father Kim heard his daughter and he knew that she was indeed sorry but he decided to tell her something and so he continued, "Did you know that there was a point in time when your mother and I got separated for a few years?"
She lifted her head and listened to her father attentively.
"It was before your brother was born and even though we knew that we loved each other, we both thought that we would not have a chance to be together. But we were both stubborn people back then and defied everything just so we could be together again."
Samantha's brows slightly scrunched up, she never thought that something like that happened to her parents.
"I could see ourselves in you, princess. I know it has been very hard for you but I knew you were strong and I thought you could hold on for a little longer. I know you understand why I did what I had to do, right?"
At that point, no matter how much Samantha held back her tears, they flowed down on her cheeks uncontrollably. She did not even know why she was crying. Was she sad? Was she happy? Was she guilty? It was probably all sorts of things that was making her break down.
She never hated her father for what he did but there was a time that she doubted that her father understood her at all. How could he when he did not experience what she experienced, right? She thought that it was only easy for her father to say such things to her like the words 'endure' but she never would have expected that he knew her feelings all along.
"I'm not against your relationship, you must remember that. I know how much you mean to each other but Daniel and I had an agreement. I hope you help him accomplish it and that you don't make it so hard for him."
Samantha understood her father very well. Standing up from her seat, she walked around the desk and threw her arms around her gentle father while she said sorry and asked for forgiveness repeatedly.
Samantha spent the entire day at her parents' house and it was already four in the afternoon when she left the estate.
After she dropped by at the Busy Bean Cafe quickly to get some coffee take out and dropped some things for Hannah, she noticed a heavily tinted black sedan that followed them behind as they drove away.
Samantha asked Philip to drive over to a supermarket so that they could buy some necessities. As they arrived, they did their errands and was back out to the parking lot in twenty minutes. Philip carried the groceries and opened the trunk so that he could place them all inside while Samantha held her baby and waited by the car.
Just as the trunk opened, someone came from behind Samantha pointed a syringe at her neck and said, "Hand over your baby."
Samantha's heart raced as she saw the reflection of a woman on the car windows. She was wearing a hoodie and yet her face screamed 'crazy doctor.'
Turning around slowly, Samantha's eyes became fierce as he handed the child wrapped in a blanket towards Devyn. "Here you go," she said through gritted teeth.
Devyn received the baby but her eyes widened in surprise when she noticed how light it was. She quickly glanced and realized that a doll was handed to her.. She no longer had the time to react when all of a sudden, her vision darkened as Philip struck her from the back.
