Daniel immediately took the syringe from her hand and passed it to one of the men near them. He pulled her to his embrace and placed her head on his chest as he signaled the rest of the people to go and move.
Sean boarded the private plane and most of them followed suit except Vivian and a couple others who were staying behind.
Gael had a lonely smile on his face when he saw the pair. Without saying anything else, he turned and boarded the plane as well.
"Sorry." She wrapped her arms around him and sighed against his chest.
Daniel lifted her chin with his finger and gave her a kiss. "Put some ice on your hand and take care while I'm gone."
"Promise you'll update me?"
"Of course. I'll call you when I'll land and text you when I can. I'll be back before you know it."
Nodding, Samantha tightened her embrace on him and he returned the same. "Stay away from danger. You have to come home to me in one piece."
"I will."
They kissed one more time before Daniel got on the plane and as soon as Sean saw him, a smirk formed on his face.
"Brother, you've become so soft. You now look like a shackled husband." Sean teased as soon as they sat on the chair.
"And you need to stop commenting about me. You need to get laid." Daniel retorted, a wide grin formed on his face.
"Hey!" Sean clutched his chest as if he was hurt. "Yeah… you're right."
"Alright, men... we're about to depart. Buckle up." Gael informed when he came out of the cockpit.
…
A few hours later, the team settled in a villa that Gael had arranged. They waited for midnight which was the time when they would meet Lavro's trusted man, Zevrick.
Daniel had just spoken to Samantha and Ash on the phone when he came back to the living room to wait with the team. It was already eleven in the evening and they were going to leave soon.
"Help!!! Please, make this stop! Make this stooooop!!!" Devyn's cry echoed from the basement where she was kept.
Sean pressed his ear canal and massaged it a little to alleviate the irritation from her shrieks.
Several hours ago, he injected the drug in her and that was why she was screaming and begging for help as it had already been seven hours since. And every hour since the drug was administered, her suffering only continued to increase, making it unbearable.
"Put a sock in her mouth and tape it or whatever. It's so annoying." Sean ordered one of his men.
"We should get going too. It's almost time." Gael informed them and so, they headed towards an abandoned building, the meeting place which the team from Yanovich chose.
When they arrived, they went through their plan again. Daniel and Sean were to stay inside the van and not appear with Gael as they did not know what was waiting for them yet. Since Yanovich's side knew only Gael to be their contact regarding the necklace, it was only understandable that he would appear alone.
Fifteen minutes before midnight, Gael got off the car and walked towards the spacious area of the building, waiting for someone to show up. He had about ten of his guards with him as they patiently waited.
Just when the clock struck midnight, Zevrick appeared from the far end of the space. "Well look who's here. It's Mr. De Luca again."
Appearing like he didn't care a damn about Zevrick, Gael only stared at him as he neared. "Where's Mr. Lavro Yanovich?"
"Oh… tsk tsk… truly you don't know how this goes. The Master does not appear. Only me. I will be at your service. Now I need to check that item." Zevrick
Listening through the audio, Daniel and Sean exchanged glances. So the old man was not there that night?
Annoyed, Gael waved a hand to signal his men and one came forward with a briefcase in hand. Gael stared at Zevrick's smug face and opened the case, revealing the beautiful piece of jewelry.
Zevrick was utterly mesmerized upon seeing the necklace. There was no doubt that it was indeed the jewelry that Lavro gave to his wife many years ago. Giving in to his urge to touch the piece, he reached out his hand forward but before he could even get near it, Gael's men drew their guns and pointed them to him.
In a flash, Zevricks men also immediately pointed theirs. His trance was interrupted and was momentarily shocked with the turn of events, his eyes averted towards Gael when the latter closed the case and locked it.
"This isn't how it works. I need to talk to your boss personally or he won't get his hands on this jewelry." Gael spoke so low, it almost sounded like he growled.
A chuckle escaped from Zevrick before the small laugh became loud. "You sure have the nerves to demand. You must know that the Master isn't going to meet just anyone. Do you think you're someone important? You are rich, De Luca but Master is richer and more powerful."
Gael clicked his tongue and gave the case back to his men. He went closer to Zevrick despite the many guns pointing at him and placed both of his hands on his shoulders. "You must have forgotten that you… still owe me a cargo. You are not in the position to even negotiate with me because apart from the fact that you owe me, you don't own this jewelry. I will only talk and transact with Lavro." He gripped Zevrick's shoulders so hard, making him wince.
Gael continued, "But, if he doesn't want to come out from whichever pit he's hiding, then probably he just doesn't care about this jewelry, yeah?"
Zevrick sneered. How dare this mafia prince taunt the Master?
"So what is it going to be?" Gael prompted.
Glaring at the man who's being arrogant, Zevrick spoke under gritted teeth. "Your cargo will be ready soon. Just wait. As for Master, I will relay your message to him. Until then, we will keep in touch."
Gael patted Zevrick's cheeks harshly and smiled sinisterly to him. "Good… good… wasn't that easy?"
Zevrick hated Gael De Luca. He actually thought that he could get away and take the jewelry with him that night but the man wouldn't even let him touch it.
"Very well… since we've come to an understanding. Our meeting ends here tonight." Gael turned and walked off but he stopped halfway. "Oh… I almost forgot, I actually have a present to Mr. Lavro. It came to my attention that he was looking for a certain doctor. Maybe with this, he can easily decide to come and see me."
Zevrick knitted his brows, he watched as Gael walked towards his van and saw a person whose head was covered and the clothes were full of blood dripping from her jaw. Judging by the figure, he deduced that it was a female. The person also looked like she was squirming as she was dragged and muffled sounds came from her but none could be understood.
The guards brought her towards Zevrick and then pushed her to the floor.
"What is this? Who is this woman?" Zevrick questioned.
"Why don't you take a look at it yourself? Tell Lavro that I will be waiting and that he can do whatever he wants with this wretched animal." Gael said before he turned on his heel and left.
As soon as the van disappeared, Zevrick removed the cover from the woman's head and his eyes widened in horror before a frightening smile formed on his face. "Ah!!! Christmas came early. Welcome back, Doctor Nam."
However, at that moment, Devyn was already delirious that she was no longer aware of what was happening around her. She was hallucinating at the same time that her body was itching intensely. Furthermore, pain tormented her insides and her skin. She slithered and groaned hoarsely, making her look completely horrifying.
