The sound of water droplets echoed through the small and dingy room. The floor was damp and the only light that was coming inside was from a small vent which was the size of a shoebox. The night was cold and the cool air entered through it, making the woman shiver. She was lying unconscious on the floor for hours since she was placed there and the only good thing about her state was that she was not tied up.
However, Samantha Kim had come down with a slight fever. When she was captured earlier, her hair was damp and her clothes got wet because she struggled for a few seconds, turning the shower on and spraying herself. She caught a cold.
She laid on the cold floor and was not even given water. Her lips were dry and she was unsure of what was happening around her because of her headache.
The door finally opened and she squinted her eyes open. A woman's figure appeared before her. She was crossing her arms with a sinister smile on her face and it only took a second before Samantha recognized the familiar face. "Nancy," she muttered as she struggled to get up, sighing because every inch of her body was aching.
"How are you, Samantha?" Nancy asked as she slowly sat on the chair. She supported her waist because her bump was starting to show and the additional weight on her belly was making it difficult.
"What am I doing here? What are you doing?" Samantha calmly asked. She did not understand what was going on in the idiotic head of this woman.
"Do you really not know why you're here?" Nancy crossed her legs, swinging her foot leisurely as if she had all the time in the world.
"I don't know, Nancy. I really have no idea what your swollen brain is thinking." Samantha did not have any energy left to think further. She just wanted to go home to her son and Daniel.
"Look at you right now and you still dare to say such things to me?" Nancy's eyes become fierce. She glared at Samantha with such malice. She hated her so much. She envied her ever since they were teens but no matter what she did, she could still never be above her.
Samantha let out a chuckle, angering Nancy even more. She straightened her sitting position as she returned her gaze and with a smile on her pretty lips, Samantha casually replied, "I'm actually doing fine here. It's comfy! I'm having fun."
Nancy sneered when she heard Samantha. She thought that Samantha must be really crazy. "You are such a pretentious woman. You don't deserve what you have."
"Oh? Tell me then, do you deserve them instead?"
Samantha's question caught Nancy off guard. She stood up from her chair and walked a few steps forward. "You have the nerve to be so cocky! Don't even think your threats will work on me now that you're stuck here in this dirty place!"
"How was that a threat?"
"Shut up! I'm talking about all those text messages and schemes that you did behind my back! You had me stalked and sent me things! Do you think that you can manipulate me? I'm telling you, you can never take him away from me!"
Samantha's headache was getting worse and Nancy's gibberish was not helping at all. She rubbed her temple and lazily spoke, "What are you talking about now? I really can't follow you. I don't know any texts, schemes or whoever you are talking about." She rolled her eyes while they were closed.
"Don't play tricks on me anymore, Samantha! It's just you and me, you don't have to pretend! I know what kind of person you really are!"
Realizing that ignoring Nancy was impossible at the moment, Samantha opened her eyes again and looked back at her. "Okay, if I did whatever you think I did, why in the world did I not know you were going to kidnap me? You said I had you watched, so I should have known that you were planning to do this to me."
Nancy stepped back and crossed her arms again as if she was protecting herself. No. She couldn't have made a mistake. It was only Samantha who didn't like her!
"What threats did you receive, Nancy?" Samantha scanned her up and down until her eyes settled on Nancy's stomach. "Does it have something to do with your pregnancy?"
Samantha watched her reaction carefully and noticed her gulp when she asked the question. "Looks like I'm right."
"You still like to play with me like this? You have already done enough, Samantha!" Nancy lashed out, unwilling to accept that Samantha was trying to make her believe that she suspected the wrong person.
"It couldn't have been just a simple threat otherwise you wouldn't have to resort to doing this and you wouldn't be this worked up." Samantha ignored her reaction and tried to press on the matter further. "What are you hiding, Nancy?"
"Stop talking!!! You're doing this on purpose!"
"Hmmm…" Samantha rubbed a finger on her lips as she continued to deduce. "If I would have to make a bold guess, your child…"
"This is Andrew's child!!! He's the father of my baby!" Nancy bit out, enraged that Samantha was trying to sound smart.
Seeing her agitation, Samantha couldn't help but smile. She actually found it interesting that Nancy had this kind of trouble. "I bet he isn't the father. Who's whore are you, Nancy?"
"I said shut up!!!" Nancy dashed forward with her hands raised, ready to slap Samantha but before she could even do so, the door to the dingy room opened. "Ms. Jung, you have a phone call."
Nancy's hand hung mid-air while she scowled at Samantha. The latter, on the other hand, showed that she was having all the time of her life as the corner of Samantha's lips curled up into a mocking smile — she did not want to give Nancy the satisfaction that she expected. Samantha was sure that Nancy was expecting her to cower in fear and beg for her release. She knew that Nancy was thirsty for power which was why Samantha would never give her what she wanted.
Lowering her hand, Nancy turned around and exited the room. Samantha heard metal clinks from outside the door, indicating that the door was locked. It was only when she was alone again did she breathe a sigh of relief and close her eyes.
Her body was getting warmer than usual and she knew it very well that if she didn't get out of that place any soon, she would definitely get more sick.
For the past two years, she had been living a healthy lifestyle as advised by Nathan Yun and her other physicians. They were concerned about her history of being poisoned which affected her internal organs back then. It was really a miracle that she was able to conceive a child. Because of this, she was on a strict diet and she had to stick to certain programs in order to make sure that her body won't be in danger again. And it's the first time that she was having a fever since then.
She looked around to see her chances to escape but to her dismay, it looked impossible. Wondering what time it was, she glanced at her watch and saw how many hours she had already been in there. It was almost midnight and instead of worrying about her own state, her heart was troubled thinking about how Daniel must be very worried for her right now and how Ashton must also be looking for her.
She started to pat her clothes and see if she had something on her but the only thing she found in her pocket was Ashton's bead bracelet. However, upon seeing this plain-looking bracelet, a bright smile formed on Samantha's face as she held it in her hand.
"Ashton… my baby… you really are mommy's lucky charm!" She kissed the bracelet before putting it back in her pants
