"Hi." Damon greeted as he approached her. "Are you looking for something?"

"No, I'm not." Serina answered, just giving him a glance and nothing else.

"I see you've been looking at the map. Are you sure you're not lost?"

"I'm not lost. I'm just familiarizing myself with the place." Serina looked at him in the eyes and frowned. "Please excuse me." She turned on her back and was about to leave when Damon spoke again.

"You don't remember me?" Damon questioned softly which she almost missed to hear. He was still standing on the same spot when Serina turned to face him. "We've met before. I went to your city over a year ago but we didn't have a chance to talk because Nicholas took you somewhere."

Serina tried to recall her memories of one year ago to find where he met this person. Two minutes later, as if the clouds dispersed from covering the sky, her face lit up when she remembered him. "You are that guy who visited the Vallardi estate."

"Yup. My name's Damon."

"Nice to meet you. I'm Serina."

"Beautiful name. It suits a beautiful woman like you."

"Thanks." Serina stated and just smiled faintly at him. "It's good to see someone who's a little bit familiar."

"Well, if it's okay to you, we can be friends. Actually, my family is a business partner to the Vallardi so, it shouldn't be a problem if we become friends."

"Ah…about that…" Serina felt a little bit complicated upon hearing these words from him. "I don't really want to ride in their coattail but I'd be happy to be your friend, too."

"That's good to hear." Damon reached out his hand in front of her and Serina took it for a handshake.

She was happy to finally met a man she can be friends with but she has no idea of the dangers lurking beneath this friendship. Damon gave Serina a tour of the place and they talked about the purpose of her travel. He was surprised to know that she'd be studying in the country for two years but deep inside, he was celebrating. He's got two years' worth of time to suck her life force without her knowledge. He can take things slowly and she'll be dumb before she knows it.

To make things worse, she even allowed him to send her back to the hotel. Although he didn't come inside the hotel, he still found out where she's currently staying.

"Thank you for taking the time to give me a tour of the place."

"Anytime for you." Damon answered with a sweet and enchanting smile hanging on his lips. "You should go back inside now and don't forget to lock your windows and your door. It's not safe to be living alone with all the news of vampires going around."

"Do you believe in them?" Serina asked without looking at him. If she did, she would have found out how her black eyes turned deep scarlet.

Damon closed his eyes and looked down on his shoes. "I believe that they exist even before this news started spreading."

"Likewise." Serina muttered as she took a step to the entrance of the hotel. "I'm going inside now. See you around."

Damon took a deep breath as he calmed himself. Her scent was taking a toll on him and he really wanted to sink his fangs deep in her throat and suck her dry. 'Let's get some food.' he told himself mentally and walked away. Normally, he could go three to five days without drinking blood but today, while they were together, his hunger was kicking him hard.

There were still few hours before the sky turns dark and he couldn't risk getting food at this moment. He walked to an alley which was getting darker from the shadows of the buildings and disappeared. What replaced him were hundreds of bats flying to the afternoon sky.

In the hotel, back in her room. Serina was lying on her bed with her arms spread widely. She was staring at the ceiling with no particular thing in mind.

'I don't feel comfortable with that guy.' Brittislava commented after making sure that no ones prying over them. 'I don't know why but I feel a little oppressive feeling from him.'

'Maybe because he's a man and he's a little domineering? I felt it, too.'

'No, it's not. I wish we could use my power without putting you in danger.' Brittislava mentioned disappointedly. 'I really want to show everyone how powerful you are with me but that will cost you your freedom and life.'

'I thought dragons are more powerful than other supernatural beings. Why do we have to go on hiding?'

'If your predecessor didn't do something horrible, the dragon tribe wouldn't have to hide.'

'So, if I can lift the curse from the Luna of the Blue Moon Pack, the dragon's tribe wouldn't have to hide anymore, right?'

'Hn. That's the plan.'

Serina nodded to herself without saying anything. She was planning to take a shower when her parents called her. They didn't talk much, just asking how she was and what keeps her occupied. Her father also informed her about his recent promotion in the Vallardi company and how their life was getting better.

Although the news was something that they should be happy, Serina could see the anxiety in her father's eyes. She didn't know why and she didn't ask either. If her father wants her to know, he'd tell her himself without her needing to ask.

After half an hour, the call ended. Serina thought she'd finally get the chance to take a shower but her friends called her as well. She had to postpone her shower again and talk to them.

"By the way, your Mr. God-damn-sexy-and-drop-dead-hunk Nicholas got invited to give a speech for the freshmen students' orientation. He looked gorgeous as ever." Brigette stated in excitement.

"And as cold as ever." Hillary added which made Serina laugh.

"At least, he isn't cold to both of you." Serina responded while looking at the darkening sky outside her window. "He's a warm person."

"He's warm and kind to you." Hillary retorted almost immediately. "Anyway, we've been searching about your school there and the place. It's beautiful and rich in culture but…uhh…"

"But?" Serina questioned to hear the rest of the words. "Did you hear something about this place?"

"Well, it is something you'd be excited about but it's something that we can't really wrap our head around. There are news of vampires going around, victimizing the foreign students and tourists." Hillary stated, looking spooked and worried at the same time. "You must have heard of them."

"I did. In fact, it's the gossip of the town. Well, I don't really go out at night so, I'll be fine."

Serina reassured her friends about her safety, showing them how secure the locks of her window as well as her door. She was even giving them a tour of her room to showcase them that she'd be able to escape easily during emergency. 'But you're talking about vampires. There's no way for you to escape from those creatures in terms of speed.' Brittislava told Serina to correct her way of thinking.

"I know." Serina said aloud which confused her best friends.

"What are you agreeing to? Anyway, we won't – "

"AAAAAAAHHHH!" It wasn't so loud but it was still enough for Serina and her best friends to hear. The woman's scream cut off Brigette's words as the three of them stopped talking and just listened to the source.

"What was that?" Hillary questioned, her face was getting paler every second has passed.

Serina looked outside the window and since her room was facing the street, she could see many people running to a certain direction. "There's a fire. I'll check on it. I'll talk to you guys later." Serina ended the call without a moment of hesitation. She was lying about fire but she knew that her best friends would press her for the truth if she didn't end the call quickly.

She looked outside and saw a man being held up by one of the town's people. Serina removed her own mind barrier and listened to the conversation of the people outside her window. She felt uncomfortable at first since she stopped doing this for quite a while now. The words and emotions came pouring in her mind but she didn't flinch at all.

'I thought it's a vampire's work again.'

'Thankfully, she's rescued in time.'

'That man really has the guts to hold up someone here.'

'If that girl didn't scream, no one would know what would happen in this dark alley.'

'This kind of crime happens in all over the world. If you're a victim to it, we can only feel sorry and do nothing.'

'That man should be punished heavily.'

Getting the clues and the information at this point, Serina put up the barrier in her mind once again and sighed. She was really worried that it would be another story of vampires going around town, sucking blood from foreigners and discarding them in dark alleys.

"Whatever. Let's go and take a shower." Serina told herself, picked up the bathrobe and went to the shower room.

Outside the hotel, a woman was standing there while looking at the lit-up rooms of the building. Her blonde hair was being blown by the wind while people passed by her, looking at her in a strange manner. 'I'm sure I've felt it here.. Someone just intruded my mind.'
