Chapter 5: IS SHE HER OWN PERSON OR HER FATHER'S SISTER?

Serina went home but her two friends stayed in school to attend their classes in the afternoon. When she arrived home, the house was quite as if there's no one home. She went upstairs to get inside her room when she heard a faint sound of argument coming from her parents' bedroom.

Ever since that fight five years ago, she never heard her parents argue again. "So, they fought behind close doors when I'm not around." Serina whispered to herself and decided to ignore them and give them the privacy they needed.

"Are you going to tell her? For a long time now, there was nothing wrong with her. Maybe the curse didn't apply to her. Maybe she just got that tattoo for herself."

"No, Irene. For a long time now, we know that she's going through something but we both turned a blind eye to that. We both knew it."

Serina changed course and instead of going to her room, she walked towards the master's bedroom instead. She had this feeling that her parents were talking about her. "Wait. I can just listen to them from my room." She slapped her forehead and walked back to her room. She walked in tiptoes and opened her room as slow as she could, making sure that they wouldn't know that she's home.

"Michael, what if we leave this place and go back to your tribe?"

"No, we can't. The werewolves have been looking for our tribe and have been looking for my sister. They had no idea that she died yet. If they find out that our daughter carries her mark, can you imagine what will happen to her?"

"But it's just a curse. If she can lift that curse, the wolf tribe will no longer hunt your tribe."

"It's not that simple." Michael sighed and sat on the foot of the bed. "I don't even know how we'd tell her about all this."

Serina frowned as she listened to her parents. It turned out, they weren't fighting but were just having a little disagreement which was related to her. 'Werewolves? Curse? Who will lift the curse, me? What are they talking about? Do werewolves even exist? My parents don't have loose screws, right?'

Serina thought about so many incidents in her life that no ordinary people can explain. She thought that maybe, her parents weren't overthinking. Maybe these supernatural beings really exist.

Serina wanted to listen to her parents but she found out that their room has gone silent. "Huh? Where did they go?" She couldn't hear their voices and even if she tries to pry their minds, she couldn't locate her parents. "Did they leave the house? I didn't even notice."

Serina stood up from her bed and walked towards her door. To see if something was wrong with her ability, she needed to find her parents. To her surprise, Michael and Irene were standing right outside her room.

"M-mom. Dad." Her voice turned extremely soft, afraid that they'd get angry because she escaped from school again. "Sorry."

"Have you been trying to pry us in our mind? How long?" Michael asked without beating around the bush. "I know you have the telepathic ability."

"You knew?" Serina's eyes went wide like saucers and she took several steps back. "You've known that I have this ability? Why didn't you tell me?"

"I wasn't sure." Michael responded with helpless expression. "Can we talk? I have so many things to tell you."

Serina opened her room a little bit wider and allowed her parents to come inside. The both of them sat on her bed while she sat on the ottoman chair inside her room. "So, what's this all about? I heard you guys talking about werewolves or the wolf clan. Then, there's this curse and your sister. What's all this?"

"Let's talk about the clans first. In this world, not many people knew that they still exist. There's the Dragon tribe where I belong. The wolf clan is where the werewolves belong. And there are vampires. Hundreds of years in the past, werewolves and vampires were natural enemies but after knowing that their common enemies were humans, this two clans started to get along with each other. As far as I know, they haven't gotten into fight in the past three hundred years. As for our Dragon tribe, we are partial to both clans. We are far more powerful than them as well. But 150 years ago, my sister did something horrible which causes our clan to go into hiding."

"150 years ago? How old are you, then?" Serina questioned which earned her a knock on her forehead. "I am just asking."

"Is that so important to you now?" Michael retorted with a fierce glare.

"Of course. If you live hundreds of years then, my mother – how many wives have you married now?" Hearing this question, Irene also looked towards her husband. She never thought of asking him this question.

"Excuse me. I may have lived for hundreds of years but I have married one woman and that is your mother. Hmp!"

"Wow! Aren't you that privileged mom? He only waited for you."

"I will die eventually and he will be left alone which means he can look for someone else." Irene replied with obvious displeasure. Humans have a life span of 70-80 years old. Not many people get to live past 90 or 100. Which means, she will die earlier than him while he continues to live his life in this world.

Irene didn't know that there's a way to live longer for human mates but Michael didn't intend to tell her that information for now.

"Back to the topic." Michael cleared his throat and sat up straight in front of his daughter. "My sister fell in love with someone from the wolf clan. Werewolves are different from us. For them, finding their mates is one of the happiest days of their lives. It could be a human, someone from the dragon tribe or a she-wolf. When they find their mates, they wouldn't love someone else unlike humans who cheat.. My sister fell in love with a werewolf who already found his mate."
