Elder Alina was beyond shocked, head spinning over the information – the truth of what Serina is. She didn't anticipate this news and she began to worry. In the past, many werewolves hoped to become mates with a dragon bearer, thinking that they'd have powerful offspring after the union. Words spread about this ridiculous notion but no one has proven this theory because the Moon Goddess made sure that werewolves will only mate with werewolves. Over the years, it has changed because of all arising conflicts. To settle the matter, the Moon Goddess allowed werewolves to mate with humans, vampires and dragon bearers.
It seemed impossible, thinking that dragon bearers didn't like anyone coming to their territory. Vampires and werewolves loathed each other from centuries old, so this wasn't probable either. Only humans seemed to accept these changes. Some vampires marry humans, too and the same goes for dragon bearers. They even thought that Serina's mother was human. They didn't sense the wolf in her when she met with Michael. They haven't seen her shapeshift and to a dragon bearer, it's impossible not to sense any supernatural being around them.
It was just a theory but now, there's the first offspring between a she-wolf and a dragon bearer. Just how powerful could she be?
'I'm a little guilty, though.' Brittislava told Alina. 'Although she'd still be strong, I don't know if she would become the strongest among all beings. I wouldn't be here to witness that.'
'Haven't you informed her of your plan? Isn't it her right to know?'
'I'll tell her when the right time comes. I'll make sure that everyone will look at her with respect and not contempt. I'll make sure that she will be spared from all the hatred which her predecessor incurred.'
"Elder Alina! Elder Alina, come and join us!" Serina called and threw a rattan ball at her. She looked so jolly along with the other children. The villagers no longer hated her and they started to welcome her as well. The only thing that they didn't allow her to know was the rune for the passage between their village and the human realm. It's their sanctuary, their hideout and even though Serina was a dragon bearer, they couldn't forget the fact that she spent so much time with humans. They didn't want her to make a mistake and bring someone to their place which might cause chaos in the future.
"I'll pass. I'm a little old to play with you guys." Alina stated and returned the ball back to Serina.
"Who said you are old and I'll give them a kick?"
"Yeah! Yeah! Who said?" the kids reiterated, making the scene a little chaotic yet joyful.
One week later, Serina made a little progress with her practice. Just a little because she felt annoyed for craving someone's presence the moment she opened her eyes in the morning. She didn't hate wanting to see Nicholas but she just didn't like the feeling that she was craving for a male's company.
"I admit that I like him but I didn't expect to like him this much; to the point that I'd want to book a flight back home just to see him. This is not me. This is abnormal. I can't be like this." Serina told Hillary and Brigette over the phone. She was having a video call with her friends, complaining to them the terrible ache she was feeling because Nicholas wasn't with her.
"Maybe it's because he's the first male that you are attracted to and you want him to be by your side all the time." Hillary retorted while eating her popcorn.
"Isn't that scary? I'm not the possessive type of person. Why would I feel this way? And to Nicholas? We just met over a year ago and we don't spend a lot of time together. It feels weird. I felt awful." Serina responded, clutching onto the necklace that Nicholas gave her on her birthday. "And let's not forget something."
"What?" Her best friends asked at the same time.
"This feeling could be one-sided. He might like me as a friend but nothing more than that. I don't want to ruin what we have."
"Hold it there, my sweet." Hillary put down her popcorn on the table and drank a mouthful of water. "I'm not giving you false hopes but I don't want you to give up your feelings because of all the weird thoughts you have. Nicholas must have a thing for you as well."
"I agree. He wouldn't be calling us early in the morning, trying to get information about you just because he couldn't reach you. And another thing, I heard that he had been wanting to come over there if not because of his works that has piled up." Brigette added.
"And where did you guys get this information?"
"We have our resources." Hillary mentioned. "Anyway, you'd be home in a month. Just hold on to your feelings and find out what he feels for you as well. Don't be a coward girl. If he doesn't like you, you can always go back to Paris and look for someone else. Oh! There's that guy, too. Who was that again? The one who always accompanies you?"
"Right! He's a good catch, too. If Nicholas doesn't like you, you can just hook up with Damon." Brigette teased her which Serina rolled her eyes to and ignored. She didn't see Damon the way she sees Nicholas. For her, Damon is a great friend, someone she can be honest to.
'Then, what about Nicholas? I can't even be honest with him.' Serina thought to herself and her expression changed immediately. She felt guilty and anxious at the same time. Without her knowing, her psychic power tampered with the weather and a strong gust of wind pushed her window open. The dark clouds started to gather and lightning zigzagged across the sky.
'Rina! Rina! Get hold of yourself. Your power is spilling.' With the reminder of her dragon, Serina blinked her eyes and looked at the sky outside her window. A black crow perched on a lamp post across the field and she can feel it watching her.
'Did you cause this?' It was Damon's voice. 'Rein it in. Other supernatural beings can find you using the traces of your power.'
'Sorry about this.'
"Serina? Are you alright? You suddenly turned quiet." Hillary questioned. Her voice dripped with worry but Serina only smile at her. "I know this is new to you girl but just hang in there. I know you can do this. As for Nicholas, don't think to much about him. Anyway, we'll watch over him and see if he's got another girl."
"We'll call you again tomorrow. Just take a rest."
"Mn. Take care of yourselves. Call me if there's anything urgent."
As soon as the call ended, the black crow flew across the field and perched onto her windowsill. Serina waved her hand and slowly, the sky started to clear as if the gathering of dark clouds was just a false alarm. "Get inside." She said. The bird flew over and landed on her bed. When she looked around, Damon was already sitting on her bed with a book in his hand. "I didn't expect that."
"Is this the first time?"
"This is the first time that I lose control of my power but this isn't the first time that I control of the weather."
"Worried about something?"
Serina poured some tea for both of them and handed him a cup. She hesitated to tell him and Damon was just sitting, waiting for her to share her thoughts. "Damon, have you fallen in love?"
"What kind of stupid question is that?"
"So, you haven't?"
"I don't believe in love anymore. How old do you think I am? I only look like this but I'm decades older than you." He drank the tea and walked to the table languidly to pour another cup for himself. "I heard that love can make people go insane."
"That can be true." Serina placed her tea cup on the table and looked outside the window. Just thinking of Nicholas could make her feel some butterflies in her stomach but sometimes, he makes her feel anxious and worried, too. She wanted to call him but she realized, she has been calling him the past few days and she thought that he must have felt annoyed by her. She didn't know what else to do. She didn't know how to handle these new emotions she felt.
"Love can make you say truthful things as well." Damon stated without looking at her. "Are you ready to tell him what you are? Are you ready to be rejected? Or to be accepted? I'm telling you, Nicholas can probably accept the fact that you have a spirit within you and that you are half-human and half-supernatural being. However, the problem lies with the second half. He's fond of wolves and he might know a few werewolves. You should have known that werewolves have loathed your kind for a long time now. But of course, if he loves you back, he can accept all that."
"You know what, you are scaring me."
"I'm your friend. I am just giving you a sound advice. At the end of the day, it's your decision to make. I can only support you. If he rejects you, I can lend you a shoulder to cry on. If he accepts you, I'll bring a champagne and celebrate it with you. I am no more than a friend." 'Because there's no point to like someone when her heart belongs to another man..' But of course, Damon didn't say the last statement to her.
