"Young master." An old man around seventy years old stood there in front of his home when Nicholas opened the door. His brown eyes lit up when he saw Nicholas but his eyes moved to the interior of the house and he frowned. 'There's a human inside your house?' The man questioned through mind link instead.
'She's my mate. For some reason, I couldn't understand why her wolf won't show up. Kiro could communicate with her through mind link but I can't.'
'So, you wanted to me to check on her?'
'Yes, grand elder. I was hoping you'd be able to find something in her.'
The old man nodded his head and stepped inside the house with Nicholas following behind him. Serina was eating her food happily, enjoying the moment that she has with Nicholas this time. She felt Brittislava retreating to the back of her mind as if she was afraid over something and when she turned around, she found Nicholas standing at the door to the kitchen with an old man beside him.
"H-hello." Serina greeted adamantly but she kept a polite smile on her face.
"Rina, this is grandpa Solomon. We're not really blood related but he's like a grandpa to me. He took care of me and Yiran when we were very young before he moved here." Nicholas mentioned as he introduced the old man to Serina. He can't really tell her that the man was the grand elder of blue moon pack and the red moon pack. "Grandpa, this is Serina Wentworth. She's an exchange student here in Paris and my future wife."
"Ahem! Ahem! Ugh." Serina choked on her food and even when she drank a glass of water, she still felt a lump on her throat. She glared at Nicholas for saying some nonsense and by the look of the old man in front of her, she could tell that he believed Nicholas. "What are – "
"She looks great but I'm afraid you have to wait for another year. She's seventeen if my guess is correct." Solomon said which cut Serina's words and she felt even more embarrassed now that her age was being mentioned. What would you think for a seventeen-year-old girl being alone with a man in his house? Surely, it wouldn't be good. Most people will jump to conclusion and that's what she's afraid of. However, the man seemed to like her presence and was approved of her future relationship with Nicholas.
"Nicholas and I are friends." Serina said, trying her best to save what little dignity was left in her. "We're not doing anything over the line. I'm just visiting him out of friendship."
"You don't have to be so anxious. Grandpa knows that I dragged you here." Nicholas commented with a smug look on his face.
"And you look proud with that?" she retorted and elbowed him which only makes him grin at her.
Serina had no idea that during the whole conversation, the old man was already running his power over her. She only felt a ripple of energy but she didn't know what it was. Only Brittislava knew what was going on. To save herself from being found, she woke up Serina's wolf and let her face the onslaught of energy.
She pressed her temple and held onto the edge of the table to steady herself. She felt dizzy and nauseous. Her skin felt itchy as if thousands of ants were crawling beneath her skin. "Rina? Are you okay?"
"I don't know. I felt dizzy for some reason. My bones hurt, too but still bearable. It feels like something's crawling beneath my skin. It's awful."
Nicholas looked at the grand elder and the man finally withdraw his power. He walked towards her and injected healing energy in her, calming her new awoken wolf who seemed disoriented at what happened. "She had been very stressed recently and her emotions were all over the place. She seems broken but at the same time she's healing." Serina heard these words from the old man before she lost consciousness. 'Her wolf was being suppressed by a great energy. Today, I forced her to come out.'
Nicholas didn't say anything and no one really knew what he was thinking. He only looked towards Serina and finally lifted her then carried her to his bed. The grand elder followed them, still reinforcing healing lights to the curling wolf inside Serina's body. She looked pale but he can see the strong ripple of energy around her. It wasn't the same energy that came from the grand elder but it was something he was very familiar with.
Now that he knew Serina's identity, Nicholas felt more bothered with this fact. He met Michael and Irene several times in the past before meeting Serina but he couldn't smell the wolf in them. They have the scent of humans which was why he thought that Serina was human as well. If it wasn't for the incident where Damon tried eating away her spirit's life force, he wouldn't know that she's carrying a supernatural power within her. He just never mentioned it to her, waiting for her to open up first.
"Could it be that one of them was just masking their scents? Or is it possible that Serina isn't their biological daughter?" Nicholas mumbled in question.
"What do you mean?" The grand elder questioned and erected a barrier to stop Serina from hearing whatever it was they're talking about, in case she's awake.
Nicholas brought a chair for the grand elder while he sat on the bed beside Serina. "I met her parents several times in the past before I even met her. Her father works in our company as product quality analyst. He's very good at his job and I remembered seeing him ever since I was young. But I've only seen him during company meeting and when he has to report about some products. He works at home because he couldn't leave his wife and daughter. He was even coined as a wife slave but he didn't mind it. As for her mother, Irene, I've seen her during company parties and birthdays in our household. I have never seen their daughter, not until two years ago. All these years, I thought of them as humans because they smell like human. Serina was the same."
"And you accepted it directly that you, a future alpha of the pack, are fated to a human? You didn't question it?"
"No. It's written in the book that mates are absolute. Also, I never felt any kinds of romantic feelings for anyone else but her."
The grand elder sighed and stood from his seat. "I don't want to suggest this but I would want you to investigate her parents. She's no ordinary wolf. If I have to be honest, she'd be stronger than you. In fact, she'd be the strongest once she's fully healed."
Nicholas was stunned at these words. It was really a surprise especially that Serina never showed a sign of having a wolf within her. If it wasn't for the fact that she could communicate with Kiro, Nicholas would really think she's a human. It was really a good decision that he asked the grand elder for help.
The grand elder left Nicholas and Serina to go back to his home, in the wilderness, away from the prying eyes of people.
Brittislava kissed the wolf's head and gave her more power to heal her body. The wolf wasn't really harmed with fatal wounds but because Serina all has the dragon in her, the wolf was suppressed internally. She couldn't emerge in Serina's mind and she didn't have much power to overpower the dragon either. All she can do was curl into a tiny ball and weep in pain. She couldn't get out and couldn't get her freedom.
'Sorry little one. I promise I'll return her back to you. Right now, I'll slowly transfer some of my energy to you. When the right time comes, I hope you will take good care of Rina for me. She's a very lovely child.'
Nicholas went out of his room to get some water in case she wakes up. The moment he closed the door, Serina's body was covered with a bright light.
Serina woke up around seven in the evening and she felt so refreshed. She didn't know what happened but her body felt lighter and she could feel the flow of energy around her.
"You're awake. Come and eat some food. I'll send you back to school after dinner." Nicholas stated when he opened the door and found her staring outside his window. "Grandpa left already but he's happy to know his future granddaughter-in-law."
Serina looked at him and before Nicholas could react, she found a pillow beside her and threw it at him. "Go to hell! I didn't agree of becoming your wife."
"We'll get there soon."
"Shut up!"
While the two of them bickered back and forth, Damon was drinking red wine alone. It's been three days since he had blood as food but he didn't feel tired at all. Physically he was not but, emotionally he felt conflicted. He didn't anticipate this kind of meeting at all. Never in his wildest dreams or in his nightmares. He left her to live a good life. He turned away from the fate that bound them together. Yet, fate brought them even closer. Worse, it was Serina who held them altogether.. He owed her so much already even though he didn't pursue his plan yet because when the time comes, he didn't even know how he would repay her.
