Damon hasn't meet Corrine these days even though he knew her. It was because he felt guilty towards her. He felt guilty that she lost her voice, her parents and everyone else from the village where she grew up. His family heard about the rogue vampires which attack villages and people but because the higher council didn't issue anything, they didn't do a single thing to subdue these sinful monsters. In truth, these rogue vampires were human being that an elite vampire experimented. They can become a powerful army of vampires who will only listen to the call of one vampire, whose blood is running in their veins. When these rogues attack the village where Corinne lived, Damon heard about it from his subordinates who were patrolling the borders of their territory. The village was not part of their land but it was just few kilometers away. Given his power, he can shorten the distance and arrived there in a minute or less.
Damon wanted to. In fact, he was about to leave the place but his father found out his plan. He fought with his father that time and he was only able to leave when his sister, Veronica, came to aide him. If it wasn't for her, he wouldn't be able to save a single soul.
The houses were burnt, bodies lay everywhere and blood flooded the entire place. It was a mess. A bloody mess when he arrived. He heard someone was crying. It wasn't far from where he was and without a second thought, he disappeared to find the source. He found a little girl, sitting in the middle, begging to be spared from the massacre. In front of her were hundreds, if not thousands of rogue vampires. They were all looking at her with hunger reflected in their eyes. Among all these vampires, a person wearing a black hood was crouching low to level herself to the child. The child was crying, begging for help but the vampire raised its gloved hand before striking the child on the face.
Seeing this Damon, attacked the leader of the group but the cloaked person only waved its hand and the energy that Damon gathered dissipated. At this point Damon knew that he was up against a powerful vampire, someone more powerful than him. In the moment of hesitation, the vampires summoned a thick fog which took Damon a long time before he found the trail of powerful energy. When he got there, he was late. He found the vampire taking a blue spirit coming directly from the child's mouth and tucked it inside a small red pearl. It glowed and the color changed to purple. He wanted to attack the vampire again but in the next second, that vampire disappeared.
He couldn't do anything to her anymore. She was alive but she will never be the same. Damon brought her to another village and left her there. He cannot bring her home or his father will kill the child. He can't risk that chance. He made sure to leave her outside a house which looked a little richer compared to everyone, hoping that she'd be able to live a good life. He didn't know what else happened in the following year and how she became friends with Serina. One thing was for sure, she didn't live a good life like what he wished for her several years ago.
He didn't know who was responsible for the massacres as well. He was trying his best to become stronger, to get that pearl back because up until this moment, he felt responsible for the child who lost her voice. Although she wasn't a child anymore.
Meanwhile, Serina and Natalya finally found a good home for Corrine and the two children. It wasn't very big but Corrine was very happy to have place they can call home. Natalya promised to keep them safe as well. However, this home was just a temporary dwelling until all necessary documents are signed to legally adopt them into the Wentworth family.
"Thank you so much, Rina. I will make sure to work hard and help your family as much as I can. You are an angel sent from above." Corrine spoke through their mind link and her voice sounded really happy and cheerful. In front of her thought, Corrine was crying from so much happiness. "Tears of joy." She told Serina mentally.
"How long are we going to stay here? We won't be running away from scary vampires again?" Peter said while looking around. "I don't want to keep running. It gets me really tired after."
"Don't worry. You won't be running away again. This place will keep you all safe. Also, my father and mother will be coming here next week to process the adoption paper."
"Would that be the same case for Corrine? I mean she's past the legal age so, she can take care of herself, in some sense, I mean." Natalya stated because Corrine was actually almost the same age as hers. And it was kind of embarrassing to receive so much help from Serina who was younger to them - a minor.
"Corrine can take care of herself but she would need valid IDs and legal documents if she wants to work. She doesn't have anything with her and being adopted to our family, she will have valid documents, a permanent place to stay and a family."
"You are right." Natalya said as she nodded her head. "By the way, I met your friend Damon yesterday and he said that he wanted to meet us all. I declined his invitation knowing that Corrine doesn't like vampires but he said that we can bring you along."
"He trusted me this much." Serina mumbled and smile. In truth, Damon felt a little secure if she was around. "I'll go with you. Just let me know when are you guys going. I'll bring Nicholas along with us if that would make you guys a little more secure."
"That's great. A very great idea." Natalya agreed instantly. Of course, she would. After all, she was rooting for Nicholas to succeed in his pursuit to make Serina his.
Three days later, when Corrine and the children have settled down in their new home, they finally decided to meet with Damon. Nicholas was with them and Peter was very fond of him. They talked about cars and Nicholas shared his knowledge to this young man. Now, Nicholas gained another supporter on his side.
"Damon is a vampire but he's my friend. Last time you were attacked, he was the one who sent help to keep you safe." Serina told Corrine through their mind link, giving her friend a little knowledge of Damon's kindness. Hoping that this could help her relax a little. "Don't worry. Even if he's my friend, if he will do something against your will, I will kick his balls."
"That's not very nice." Corrine replied which made Serina smiled.
Damon chose a restaurant for them to meet. He made sure to book a VIP room in order to have a privacy from the other diners. When they arrived, he was already there, sipping a glass of wine. His eyes found Corrine instantly and he couldn't stop himself from sighing. Their fate wasn't changed even after all the years that have passed.
"Have a seat." Damon stated. He saw Nicholas coming inside followed by Serina and all he did was raised his eyebrow at them. The last time they met, Nicholas didn't say a word and just dragged Serina to whichever place it was. This time, he was there along with the people he wanted to meet and based on his observation, Nicholas was well-liked by everyone.
"Let's order some food first and talk while eating." Damon suggested because he needed a little more time to finalize his thought. "By the way, I didn't expect that the two of you would get back together this soon." He said while eyeing Nicholas and Serina.
"I didn't want another man to lay his dirty hands on her."
"Very possessive but that's a characteristic that I expect from a were-"
"I'm glad you know that." Nicholas replied which cut off Damon's words. Seeing the anxious look on his face, Damon smirked and stopped himself from interfering their matter. Anyway, he will only need Serina's help about something. He didn't intend to ruin their relationship.
They all ordered their food and while waiting, Damon's eyes kept darting back to Corrine's face.
'Why do you keep looking at me?' Corrine questioned him which stunned him silly. He didn't expect that she'd ask him directly and to think, it didn't take her a long time to break his barrier against mind intrusion. She was the first to ever do that to him.
'I didn't expect that our fate would always find its ways to keep us close.'
'What fate?'
'The fate of us together. And you communicating with me like this is a proof to that.'
'Well, sorry. I've been communicating with a lot of people like this. I can talk to Serina and Natalya this way.'
'Then, try it with Nicholas.' Damon suggested. He was back to his calm and collected demeanor but his heart was already weeping inside him.
Corrine really tried and focused on Nicholas but no matter what she did, she couldn't penetrate his barriers. She could even see a wolf guarding his barriers like a god.. 'Impossible.'
