Sunday was much of the same as Saturday. She folded the laundry fresh from the dryer. She cooked and froze some meals for the week. She called her mom and dad. She ate some popcorn.

She went back to the grocery store to get the few things she could not find or forgot. She then went by the dry cleaners to pick up the rest of her laundry. All in all, it was a pleasantly mundane weekend. No drama, except what she found on the TV. No complications, except for one hairball she found by stepping in.

She texted a few friends, just to keep in touch.

She got herself ready for the dreaded Monday Morning. She could not really dread Monday as going to work at a place that she liked with people she enjoyed, she could not work up the proper dread for going to work. It was not a popular opinion, but she’d rather be ‘wrong’ and be happy than join the collective misery of the rest of the masses.

She hung up the clothes she would wear in the morning on the hanger in the closet. She found out early that despite an expensive air filter and HEPA filters on her vacuum cleaner, she could always find some pristine white hair on whatever she was about to wear. Her fuzzy little life’s antagonist would find a way to mark everything if she set her clothes out on a chair the night before.  Even if she tossed the furry bandit out of the bedroom and closed the door.

After the second time, she gave up trying and put things in the closet and left the bedroom door open. Seulgi could not stand the pitiful cries outside her door…all night long. She found that she slept better with her personal heater in bed with her. Suki kept her a bit warmer on cold nights with some judicious cuddling. Besides, it’s been proven that a cat’s purr can help produce more oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin. Which means that Seulgi sleeps better with her there than not.

Seulgi has no intention of becoming a Crazy Cat Lady, but that does not mean she would be willing to give up her companion, no matter how many times she threatens to make mittens out of her.

Besides, Suki seems to enjoy her company as much as Seulgi enjoys hers. Cats tend to be pickier about their humans than dogs, so this pair happened to be a good fit.

Monday Morning.

The alarm cat goes off about five minutes before her actual alarm clock. Once Suki is sure that Seulgi is awake-ish, she goes about her morning duties, only which she knows about. Probably looking for Seulgi’s daily outfit to shed on.

She turns off the alarm, starts her ablutions, and gets her morning routines going:

  • Avoid stepping on the cat on the way to the bathroom, no matter how underfoot she gets
  • Make sure that she still has toothpaste
  • Make sure there is toilet paper before she starts anything she cannot finish
  • Gets her daily supplements ready
  • Brush her hair and style it whatever whim she chooses. Today: up in a ponytail

There are many other things that she does to prepare for her day. After some light stretching, she has breakfast. She can have cereal now that she has fresh milk.

The most problematic part of her morning is laying out her clothes on a fur-free surface. The second most problematic part of her morning is keeping Suki off the clothes that are in a Fur-Free Zone. It’s a never ending battle.

Due to last week’s debacle, she decided to play it safe and go for flats.

While her body is on autopilot, her mind is focusing on what will be on the docket for today, this week, and this quarter. Despite her whimsically charming exterior, Seulgi really does have a laser sharp mind that, when focused, is imminently professional. This is how she got the job: she can get things done better and faster than most of her contemporaries.

Breakfast eaten, dishes rinsed, clothes adorned, cat avoided, she looks herself over and judges herself ready to face the day. She gets her keys and lunch off of the sideboard and gives Suki one last caress before heading out the door.

A moment later, Seulgi comes back in, grabs her admittance badge off the sideboard that was next to where her keys were, and leaves again. Suki looks at her as if to say: Humans.

While on the stairs down, Seulgi again thinks about getting Suki a companion. Some cats are only cats, some would like to have company while Seulgi is away at work. She should make a note to see if she can foster another cat to see how Suki would react. She does not want her friend to be lonely.

She gets to the ground floor, gets out the door, and is on her way. She deliberately avoids thinking ‘So far, so good’ as to avoid jinxing herself.

The stars align, her karma is good, and luck is smiling favorably on her as she gets to the office with no problems. She greets a few coworkers on the way to the break room so she can put her lunch in the fridge. She thinks ‘Why is there no D in refrigerator, but there is one in fridge?” Other imponderables flash through her mind as she settles into her office and boots up her laptop.

Jackson, Nayeon, and Yeji all stop by her office and greet her as they head to their respective environments. She sees Min-Jeong leading another fresh face around, making introductions.

After a bit, Min-Jeong stops by, knocks on her door frame, and says, “Hey Seulgi, may I introduce you to Im Yeojin? This is her first day and I am to show her the ropes. Yeo-jin, this is Kang Seulgi, one of the bosses around here.”

Then Min-Jeong adds with a sly side-eye look, “Be sure to always refer to her with a respectful ‘Ma’am’.”

Yeojin, “Good morning, ma’am.” At 148cm, with long (for her) raven black hair, another fresh faced beauty is joining the company. She has an unusually deep voice for someone this petite. Seulgi wonders to herself: Was I ever this tiny? She could have easily been an idol.

Seulgi gives Min-Jeong a look saying: I will get you for this.

Min-Jeong looks back saying: You can try.

Seulgi: “Good morning, Yeojin. Don’t be a Lunatic like Min-Jeong.”

Laughing, they go off to complete the initial tour of the facility and the jobs with the respective responsibilities there within.

At nine am sharp, her three cohorts show up and settle themselves into her office to start the daily and weekly planning, and setting goals. For about three hours plans are made, goals are set, and notes are taken. A break is taken after about an hour to refresh their drinks, go to the bathroom, or whatever else needs to be taken care of so their meeting can continue uninterrupted.

They finish their meeting by asking each other about lunch plans. Nayeon and Seulgi brought theirs, Jackson and Yeji were both running late this morning, so they will go to get a quick lunch outside.
