Her time was used productively. While being busy, she still took time to laugh with others. This was one of the reasons that most everyone admired her. She was all business but this did not sacrifice her being personable.

The only real problem that she had was with the still as-of-yet unnamed project. As usual, something was derailing the smooth operation. She did her best to eliminate problems before they happened, but sometimes, things still slipped by even her. Also, most of the problems happened after she had added her updates and then someone else screwed things up. If she was just a slight bit paranoid, she might have noticed a pattern. But, she wasn’t, so she didn’t.

There were some conflicting directives. There were also some new glaring errors in the updates. The cost estimates were off by a large margin, nearly twenty percent! On a part-by-part estimate that was not much. But when you had thousands if not millions of parts, that number grew exponentially. As there were several parts in this contract, that could have been a very nasty mistake if not caught in time.

The accounting department knew this, too. How did this big of an error manage to pass through them? Normally they knew better. It was almost as if someone was trying to trip her up and make her look foolish. She had no animosity with anyone that she was aware of, so she didn’t look at that possibility too seriously.

She sent the Terrible Twins off in different directions in an emergency to get the latest update in numbers, costs, and availability. Someone, somewhere, messed up the information that she had carefully added. Her corrections were reversed by an unknown person.

Since some of the information that needed to be confirmed was from much higher up the corporate ladder, the Terrible Twins would not be appropriate. She summoned Nayeon and gave her instructions on what was needed before sending her on her way. She would send Jackson only when she needed to scare the bejesus out of someone.

This sort of thing happens occasionally. It was frustrating but easily correctable with a bit of leg work. It was also good to know that it was carelessness and not malice that made the changes. There were those who were jealous of her accomplishments, but no one was foolish enough to talk about it nor even suicidal enough to act on that jealousy.

The rest of the afternoon had slipped by like water in a river. Never ending, inevitable, majestic, and yet still pleasant to sit and watch.

Yet, even in the deep waters, there were still obstructions. Things that disturbed the smooth flow of water. Some small things create ripples. Some larger things make whirlpools and vacuums of undercurrents. Others make rapids that the danger junky river rafters seemed to enjoy. Other things made waterfalls, both small and large.

Then there were natural disasters. One such natural disaster had a name. That name was Kim Taeyeon.

Taeyeon was indeed a force of nature. She was more like a typhoon than a river, though. She blew through people and projects with an ease that disregarded all damages that she caused.  She was intelligent, bright, vivacious, and also very, very good at her job. She had made more than one managing director cry. Even the CEO, CFO, and that group were not immune from Tae’s ‘tender reminders’. Everyone was not scared, per se, of her. But everyone was very, very aware to a blatantly paranoid level, whenever she was around. The paranoia centered not if the mythical 'They' were after you, but if She was. Unfortunately, this was a much healthier paranoia. Because when someone felt this way, it was usually because Tae actually was after them.

She was very much aware of the effect she had on people. The problem was that she found it funny. She had, what is politely called, a puckish sense of humor. And nobody was immune from her when she got started.

The accounting department was considered ‘safe’ because no one wanted to deal with a call from their boss. The problem was it was not safe because of their boss. Just because they were under her did not grant them immunity from her humor.

Her jokes went from the innocuous to the potentially harmful. The department considered it a rite of passage, to survive a Taeyeon joke. Tae herself didn’t see what the big deal was, they were just jokes after all. She did not understand that her PTSD inducing jokes were what kept several professional psychiatrists employed and getting rich.

If she ever found out, she would just laugh harder.

And that maniacal laughter caused shivers down the spines of every sapient being who had ever heard it, whether they knew her or not.

At an unprepossessing 162cm, many people overlooked the look in her eye. The problem with that was that is where the madness lay.

She had the unearthly sharp features of what most of the world would think of as an elf. The only thing that she was lacking was the pointy ears. A very feminine figure with long, slender limbs and sharp angles, large brown eyes, willowy eyebrows, long golden, wavy hair – unless she changed the color that week – with a lush, full mouth that was made to smile and a voice made to sing and laugh. Usually laughing with a tent of madness at others.

Most just see the laughing façade, not looking at her eyes. If more people saw her eyes, they’d run whenever they heard her laugh. It was not crazy, per se, but it was close enough to make others extremely nervous when they heard it.

Of course, not ALL of her jokes were potentially lethal. Not every cream pie that she metaphorically threw had a brick hidden in it. Just enough to make people nervous.

The only people who had a chance of reigning her in were the CEO and CFO. Both of whom knew her mother and that was the only leverage that they had on her. Not that her mother had much luck with her, but it was better than nothing. Which was what most people had on her.

The only person who was immune from her borderline insanity was Seulgi. This made her the prime target due to her lack of reaction. This bothered, amused, and frustrated Tae. To Taeyeon, this was a direct challenge, no matter if the target of the said challenge was aware of it or not.

Thus Seulgi became Taeyeon’s nemesis. She was the focus of the disaster that never relented nor had remorse for the damage done. Tae was the Puckish Prankster of the Accounting Department who was mortally feared for her attentions. Angles fled and demons whimpered when Tae started to chuckle and grin.

Of course, Seulgi was completely unaware all of this.
