Today was a pretty busy day for everyone.  The tension from this occurrence reverberated company wide. People who were not even in the same country still felt the effects. Even remote people in different hemispheres felt the disturbance.

This was, by all accounts, a good thing. This shake up will also affect the corporate culture in such a way that when a foolish person sabotages themselves, it will be known as Karen’s Law. Or, Karening, for short. “Oh, no! Bob is about to go Karen!”

After such an emotional afternoon, no one really wanted to hang out after work. Everyone went their separate ways. Jackson went home to his wife. Nayeon went to the gym with her new Pilates workout friend named Katie Kim. Min-Jeon went to dinner with her parents. Yeojin went to hang out with her sister.

Even Taeyeon let the normal hang ups go by and took the night off. She went alone and saw a comedy at the movie theater. She made sure not to think about anyone or anything at all about work.

Seulgi meets up with Son Wannie for some after work exercise. They were going to continue on with how they met, by jogging. Hopefully without any tripping, this time.

Seulgi managed to get home without any problems. This was suspicious within itself. She played with Suki for a little bit, Seulgi made sure that Suki’s food and water bowls were full and the litter box empty then changed into a workout outfit, grabbed her ear pods and phone, and then went back downstairs for her ‘date’. She nearly forgot her keys but grabbed them before her front door closed. She used the drawstring of her sweatpants to secure the keys. She had dropped them too often, so she knows to take preventative measures to begin with. She even double-knotted the bow because single knots can undo themselves, too. Again, this was learned by experience.

With ear pods in and music playing, she got to the park and started stretching and warming up for her upcoming jog. At this time Son Wannie showed up and joined her warm up without saying anything. Seulgi nearly yelped when she finally noticed her shadow mimicking her every warm up move.

Son Wannie was also wearing well worn sweats and her hair pulled up into a high pony tail. Her hair was swaying back and forth like a guidon flag. Evidently, she worked out regularly, as well. Even her sneakers were well past the broken in phase, nearly to the just broken. She’d need new sneakers soon.

Seeing this momentary panic of surprise, Wannie nearly collapsed in a giggle fit. Instead of getting mad, Seulgi just smiled tolerantly. She could only imagine what her surprised face looked like. Besides, she was used to laughter. Frequently at her expense.

She was pleased to note that there was no malice in the laughter.

Instead, she took out her ear pods and tolerantly waited for the laughter to stop. Wannie eventually wound down and became coherent again. Even with the occasional stifled giggle, they continued to warm up. Once limbered, they agreed on a route and started jogging.

They decided to take it easy, in honor of Seulgi’s bum ankle. A slow jog would also facilitate their being able to chat while jogging. It’s hard to talk when panting, and out of breath.

They started out with trivial things. How their days were, anything exciting happening – which Seulgi did not mention anything about Karen because no need to air the company’s dirty laundry with an outsider – and that sort of thing.

Once the mox nix was done, they started asking more personal questions. Where they grew up, what kind of schools they went to, that sort of thing. Turns out that they were born eleven days apart in the same year.

They had a lot of similar experiences growing up. They both had an older sibling. They both had aspirations of singing and dancing as an adult. Both had instances where family ‘dissuaded’ them from perusing their dreams.

Un-oddly enough, nobody had been murdered in Wannie’s home town that had looked like her. Much to her relief.  No one had threatened to kill her growing up, other than her sister, and that does not really count. No one was wanting to take her life in the past or present that she was aware of. The future was still unknown, but she hoped to stay off anyone’s list of people to murder.

She was unaware of the fact that she actually would be added to someone’s list within a few months. Guilt by association with Seulgi. But, that was neither of them was aware of this at this point.

They had stopped running mid conversation because they completed their planned route. During the cool down, they had moved to a small family restaurant to keep the conversation alive. Sometimes, conversation was just too good to stop. Good food and liberal amounts of alcohol fueled the conversation as well. Primarily soju helped lubricate the conversation as well. The laughter pealed from the rafters enough that the manager had to ask them to keep it down. Perhaps they got along just a bit too well.

At this point, they were still talking about simple things. What foods they liked, what kind of music they were into, what movies and books they liked, and what TV shows they enjoyed. They were surprised to find that they were both enjoying Amazing Attorney Woo.

One main difference was that Wannie had studied abroad for a number of years, so her tastes were a bit more eclectic. Her studies were so good that she had even won an award from a member of the government where she was studying. This excited Seulgi because she was into all kinds of music, books, movies, and ideas. She was not one of those reactionary xenophobic types that hated outside ideas.

By the time they were basically thrown out of the restaurant that was trying to close for the night, they had firmly cemented their association. They both looked forward to meeting up again. They would be meeting up for workout dates a couple of times a week from now on.

Their conversation had ended on a pleasant note, and so had both of their evenings. They went their separate ways promising to get in touch in a few days. Seulgi had given Wannie her exercise schedule, so they could plan meet ups easier.
