Even though it had already passed curfew, the entire Gu Mansion was still brightly lit and full of joy.
Jiang Changning stood outside the gate of Gu’s mansion in ragged clothes. Her hair was dishevelled, her cheeks were swollen, and her fingers were dripping with blood.
A carriage inlaid with jade stopped beside her.
”Jiang Changning, if you beg me, I will kill the people in the Gu family for you.” A man’s voice came from the carriage, deep and hoarse, full of temptation.
”This humble girl thanked the lord for saving her life. The Lord has avenged this girl by killing that person.” Jiang Changning straightened her back: “From here on, the girl will go by herself.”
”Idiot!” Her words seemed to irritate him. The man in the carriage didn’t say anything as the sound of the wheels gradually faded away.
Jiang Changning didn’t move at all nor did she look back.
The guards outside the mansion recognized the suspicious-looking Jiang Changning and hurried in to report. After a while, a man and a woman in bright red wedding dresses came out of the mansion.
”Sister, oh no, Jiang Changning!”
Jiang Luo pulled her newlywed husband, Gu Xiujing, and sneered twice, “Didn’t you elope with someone? You still have the face to come back.”
Jiang Changning stared at Jiang Luo with hatred, her eyes were bloodshot: “You sent someone to harm me!”
”Sister, are you mistaken about something here? Didn’t you just meet your lover in private? You left the Hou Mansion and insisted on doing such a shameless scandal. Now that you realized your actions are in vain, so you come here and slander me!” (Hou here means marquis title or a nobleman, but I will just continue using the word Hou for convenience)
After she spoke, Jiang Luo moved closer to the arms of the man next to her: “I’m married to Brother Gu now. Why is my sister so obsessed with something that is not yours?” She had a pitiful look on her face, but the corners of her mouth were lifted, forming a malicious smirk.
Gu Xiujing hurriedly hugged Jiang Luo in his arms. The eyes that were once gentle now replaced a look full of disgust: “Jiang Changning, I have already said that there is only one person in my heart. Consider that our marriage plan never existed!
“You should be grateful that A Luo is taking care of everything. But your actions… But you did such a self-willed and degrading thing, which almost got A Luo involved! “
”Am I that lowly in your eyes?!” Jiang Changning laughed twice, her voice hoarse and her expression looked crazy. When she stopped laughing, two lines of blood and tears rolled down. (t/n: there’s no literal blood.. blood and tears just mean shes suffering in her cries)
The people around saw them and retreated a few steps.
The tearing pain in her body almost made Jiang Changning unable to stand properly.
Her identity as the Gu family’s daughter-in-law has become Jiang Luo’s. Her reputation as a talented girl also had been snatched away by her. Even her mother and brother who loved her the most now, treat her coldly. Finally, Gu Xiujing, who used to treat her gently is also extremely cold to her.
”Mother and brother also don’t want to see you, Jiang Changning. If I were you, I would just kill myself.”
Jiang Changning looked at the pair of couple in front of her with fury in her heart: “Jiang Luo! Jiang Luo! If there is an afterlife! I will never…”
Jiang Luo was already impatient to watch Jiang Changning going crazy, she flicked her polished nails indifferently. If there is an afterlife… then feel free to come and ask for your life…
As if confirming her words, Jiang Changning’s roaring stopped abruptly. A sharp knife burst out from her chest.

”My lady, it’s time.”
Jiang Changning slowly opened her eyes, and Hong Xing, her personal maid, helped her up. She could clearly hear the birds singing and felt the warmth from the ray of orange sunlight coming in through the window.
Jiang Changning woke up startled, and for a moment she couldn’t tell whether it was the real world or the afterlife. She breathed a sigh of relief after she confirmed that she was still alive yet her face was very pale, and her clothes were soaked in cold sweats.
Jiang Changning got up and went to the side room, and asked Hong Xing to wait for her as she took a bath and changed her clothes.
After helping her take off the drenched clothes, the other party covered her mouth and let out a cry of surprise.
Jiang Changning followed Hong Xing’s line of sight to look down, only to realize that there was a long scar on her chest that somehow appeared at some point.
Jiang Changning’s heart was full of turmoil, and she stroked the scar with trembling hands, and the severe pain before death suddenly surged from her memory.
She went back to the past with the scar? So that was not a dream?
Jiang Changning stabilized her mood and told Hong Xing to keep this a secret.
As a personal maid, Hong Xing was naturally loyal to Jiang Changning, but her eyes were full of distress.
After she was fully dressed, people from Mother Jiang’s yard came over, saying that they wanted Jiang Changning to come to the yard for a chat.
After asking Hong Xing, Jiang Changning realized that she had returned to the day when Jiang Luo, the real daughter of the Hou Mansion, had just entered the mansion.
In her last life, Mother Jiang was tight-lipped, and she didn’t tell her about the two girls that was swapped since birth until Jiang Luo came to her door.
Back then, the servants were negligent and let Jiang Luo, the real daughter of the Hou Mansion, go to the farmer’s house, but Jiang Changning, who was actually a farmer’s daughter, lived in the Hou Mansion for more than ten years.
Hearing that Jiang’s mother wanted to call her over, Jiang Changning’s heart beat faster, and she took a deep breath.
What should come will always come.
T/n: This girl reaction when she turned back time was so stoic that i was a bit confuse whether or not she realize whats happening. This reminded me so much on the novel ‘Greeting, Ninth Uncle’. Also… her name is Jiang, the same with her mom but her family is Hou… does that mean she use her mom’s family name instead?? Kinda confusing…
edit: Hou just means Marquis or nobleman, so her family has a noble title basically
