Chapter 15: Sir Squirrel!
On the Island of the Forsaken, there are three beings of great importance. One is the Ultimate Hero of Fate, Joe. The other is, depending on whom you asked, Marius or Marianna. And the third is a squirrel…
Yes, a squirrel. The presence of such potent magic, as the ones of the two celestial beings, or, in the former merman's case, infernal, was enough to give a squirrel enough sentience, for it to rise a head taller than all the other squirrels in the land.
This is Reginald's tale, as he fights the good fight. The fight, against the Trap Nation.
Reginald:
Acorn? Where did I leave the acorns? Acorn? No, coconut. Where is the looser with the red sword? Is he chasing after the trap again? Acorns…
My name is Reginald. An honorable squirrel. I pass my days chasing after the Ultimate Hero of Fate, who has a lame ass sword. I mean, it takes him three strikes, to break a coconut open.
Which doesn't take me more than five minutes, to approach, and sit on my back legs, while he throws me some of the coconut. He even lets me drink some of the water of the great bathtub. Blessed be his plain name.
On the other side, the mermaid turned siren is a lot trickier to be around. She swims to rocks, and then sings for ships, so they can end up colliding in the rocks.
I don't mind much. If humans come to our island, then they will cut up our trees, steal our acorns, and dig latrines, which will spoil the Great Water Giving Bathtub. Besides, most of them are quite perverted. They keep ogling Marianna, as she sings.
Which might be because, she sings with just a bikini on. Something that her fellow mermaids gave her, so she won't be going around in the nude. Where they got the fabric, I don't know.
Now, if Marianna liked me more, maybe I could have gotten some clothes too? My mind is filled with memories of another soul. It seems, that I have been chosen for a great purpose. For, I keep seeing tall humans in shiny silver clothing, riding big smelly beasts.
I look to the left, then to the right. My buddy Joe is nowhere near the bathtub. Time to take a bath. Ah, I love getting cleaned. And then, it is a lazy day on a high branch for me, for the rest of the day.
It is good, to be a squirrel.
"Hey, Reggie? What are you doing in the tub, buddy? Don't you know you might drown?" Ah, it is the Hero of Ultimate Fate Joe. He still lugs around his red sword. I wonder why?
I can't speak, unfortunately enough, but I can wave in his direction. I do so, lazily. Unlike others of my kind, I am no where near as skittish.
"Yeah, hello to you too, buddy. Hey, do you think you can stand on my shoulders, so we can go and see Marianna? I cut up a coconut just for her, and I have recharged my full wish list," Joe says, and I blink at him.
What wish list? How come this is the first time I hear about it? Joe, you bastard, keeping secrets from me, eh? Well, I will make you spill them!

I get out of the water, and then point at his tattered shirt.
"What? Do you think that I should spent the wish on myself? Hey, I can't do that, though. Hey, maybe you can wish something for me? I really need a blanket. I am sick and tired from picking sand from my behind. It gets everywhere," I nod at that. Joe is now once more a good person.
"Ok, here goes. Now, remember, I have two wishes. You may wish for some new clothes for me as well, ok, buddy?" As if! One blanket for the hero, one suit of the gray stuff for me! Or no deal.
I don't let my annoyance show on my face. To Joe, I am just an adorable squirrel. Let him believe that I am an innocent angel. He will be amazed, when he sees me in full plate!
Wait, just where did this word come from? Why would I wear a plate? How do I know what a plate is? Joe doesn't use any plates, and that thot Marianna doesn't either.
"Ok, Reggie, here goes. Wish the first thing," I wish for a blanket for him first, because I am a good friend. The kind of a friend, that one would spill his secrets to, and call to get rid of bodies.
Wait, what am I even thinking? Am I a squirrel? Or, am I something else?
"Ok, thanks, buddy. Now, wish me those clothes," I narrow my eyes at the hero. No way will I waste my wish on him. He got his blanket; he should be grateful.
I feel something thick around me, and my vision becomes limited. Yet, the utter coolness that is me in plate is too much, even for me. I make a step forward, and… fall into the water.
My mind panics, and I begin to try and swim up. Yet, the gray thing is pulling me down to the bottom of the tub. My life flashes before me. Of how great times I had, since Joe came along to the island.
Of all the coconuts we shared, of nights snuggled next to one another for warmth. Of the silly hats Joe would make me, to get Marianna's attention. Goodbye, cruel life. It was a good run.
Just as I hear a choir coming from above, I sense as two hands tug me out of the water.
"Reggie? Buddy? What is with the armor? Did you get confused? Oh, please don't be dead," my eyes water then. For, even fooled, Joe is still a champ. He does something to my chest, and I spill out water. As soon as I get a grip on myself, I foresworn my greed, and pledge my eternal loyalty to Joe, the Ultimate Hero of Fate.
And I guess to that toth of a demon lord too. I place my little paw on Joe's big arm, and look at the sky. Happy to be alive for a day longer.
The story of the Squirrel Knight Reginald is an epic, preserved for the ages. He will play a grant role in the war against the Trap Nation, still, his beginning is modest.
Yet, with the power of Joe's cheat ability, the Wish Granter, Reginald would rise from a rodent, to a Trash Mob, and finally, to a dark lord. Would even that be enough to stop the traps? That is a tale, for another day.
