Chapter 16: Leprechaun

How long does a leprechaun live for? One might say ten years, for they are tiny. The truth is, that they live for a month, before dying. On his way to the battlefield against the Trap Nation, Reginald the Squirrel Knight finds a leprechaun farm. And dares to face the horror within.

Reginald:

So, a guy named Percy came along to the Island of the Forsaken, and managed to get Joe to turn Marianna back into Marius. Yet, Joe still tries to approach the former merman with flowers and shit. What a simp.

Seeing as I am a scout, I venture deeper into the Trap Nation. My full plate is now padded from within with a gambeson, and my fur doesn't get stuck between the armor pieces, which is great, really!

I skip from a tree to a tree, and then see a small hut, with a big barn right next to it. Now, I really need to be cautious because I am in an enemy territory. I watch with narrowed eyes, as two traps, seemingly a man and a woman, but it could also be a woman and a man, exit the farm.

From within the barn, I hear singing. I wonder, just what horrors could lurk inside the small wooden construction. The two traps go deep into the forest, and I am left before a dilemma.

I should warn my pall Joe, and that thot Marius, but I really want to see who is inside the barn. If they are singing, they can't be evil, can they? I venture to the barn, and climb through an open window.

There, on the hay, are a bunch of leprechauns. About as big as me, so, if it comes down to a fight, I don't like my chances. Not one bit. When the locals see me, they wave me over.

I come to them. I still can't speak because, you know, I am a squirrel, but I move to them all the same.

"Oh, it is in full armor. You must be a familiar," one of the pretty leprechaun ladies says, as she scratches on one of my exposed ears. I luxuriate in the feeling. Opposite thumbs make for the best petting experience. "How lucky you are, that you can walk out of here."

I stare at her with wide eyes. What does she mean by that? I give out a whining sound, trying to convey my confusion.

"This is a leprechaun farm, sir knight. We are raised in here, to be eaten," at her words, righteous anger blazes in my small tummy. I give out a war roar, and then climb back out of the window.

I must save these little people. Just how vile are the traps, to eat leprechauns? And, why do they eat them? I must get to the bottom of this, but first, I must free the little people.

The door is locked, with a heavy chain around it. There won't be any opening it, without a key. The strange memories that come at me, after the day that Joe landed on the island, appear before my eyes once more.

According to them, I need a key. And, people keep their keys in their houses, if they don't take them with themselves. So, I must go inside the lair of the traps, to rescue the leprechauns.

With sure steps, I climb through an open window, and look around. There is a book open on the table. Deciding to collect as much intelligence as I can from this outing, I bounce towards the open book.

There, on the page, is a vile ritual. A picture of a human, who eats a leprechaun from the opposite gender, and then gets transformed into a trap. I am just about to flip the page when the front door opens.

"Oh, how cute. A squirrel knight," comes a cooing voice from the doorway.

Now, I, the one who has come in here to die, salute you, traps! With a roar, I bounce as fast as my full plate would allow, and then take a letter opener into my paws.

"Come over, little guy. I won't harm you. Is your fur soft?" The man-woman says, as the woman-man frowns next to him/her. I shake my head. No, I must not waste time on the semantics.

With another roar, I jump from the table, and rush for their feet. They still wear boots, but I can hit them at their ankles. Just as I am about to plunge the letter opener into the man-woman, as the stronger of the two, she picks me up by my shoulders, and places me at eye level with her.

"Hey, little guy? Do you think this will be a good home for you?" What vile thing will this trap do to me? Now that I know their vile secret of how they become what they are, they will show me no mercy.

"He saw the book," the woman-man says, as she takes the letter opener out of my paws. I try to keep a hold of it with both of my paws, but she still wrenches it out of my paws. Cursed little paws, you failed me once more.

"So? It is just a squirrel?" The man-woman says, and then brings me closer to her face. Her pink lips, made red with the blood of a leprechaun, at one point, move to my cheek, and she gives me a loud kiss.

And this is when I strike. For all the leprechauns who died to produce traps. For their pain, for their sorrow. I bite down on the tongue of the man-woman, and then chew through it with my razor-sharp fangs.

She lets go of me with a yell, and clutches at her mouth, as I narrow my eyes at the woman-man. For she is weaker than her collaborator, but still stronger than me.

Oh stars, watch me now. For I am going to vanquish my Goliath!

With a quick jump, I am at an eye level with the woman-man's knees. I latch onto the right one, and dig my fangs into it. The woman-man yells and tries to shoo me away, but I slowly climb, with the nimble movements only a squirrel could possess.

As my fangs find the woman-man's eye, the man-woman collapses to the floor. Soon, I am lugging a heavy key with me to the barn. Victory, thou have been snatched from the jaws of defeat.

Historic accounts would claim that the first leprechaun uprising was instrumental for the cause of the Ultimate Hero of Fate, Joe, and the Demon Lord, Marius. What most books will leave out, is that the first leprechauns were guided out of their farm, by a squirrel knight.

It seems, that sir Reginald would only be remembered by those he saved. And by Joe, who would always have some acorns for him, when the brave and true knight would come back from scouting.
