Chapter 18: Sour Pixie
One may say, that the cause of the Hero of Ultimate Fate and the Demon Lord is a new one, but that is not true. Before them, Hero Fiona and Demon Lord Andras fought the good fight. And even before them, the pixie uprising happened.
This is the story about the pixie queen, who survived, as her people were turned into a subspecies, known as the leprechauns. A crime, for they couldn't live pass a month. A crime against nature, a crime against magic.
Belladonna III:
I am chained in the grimy prison cell. No matter what the traitorous traps tried, they were unable to turn me into a leprechaun. With every breath I take in, my fury only grows.
I still remember as the traps came to Florifel. It used to be a pixie nation, but some humans still lived within our borders. They helped build our houses, for they could do so, much quicker than us.
Then, one day, those two came to our home. I still remember them. Two shapeless slimes, which looked mindless enough, but were anything but. For, they could retain the knowledge of everyone, they consumed.
Someone from among the humans got the bright idea, to use the slimes to dispose off the humans, who died, but had no family to take care of their funeral. Humans!
They are to blame for the take-over of Florifel, for they mated with the dreaded slimes! I mean, what sort of idiot, doesn't notice that the thing they are shagging, is made out of acidic slime? Even if it does have the shape of a woman?
Personally, I blame the great perverts among the humans. Like the rich merchants. Darn merchants, they ruin everything.
I sigh, and then try to use the little magic I have left, to try to break off the chains which hold me to the floor. I hate this. Furthermore, I hate this pee and excrement covered cell, where my dignity is stripped from me. Likewise, I hate what happened to my people. If I could only turn back the time…
From the corner of my eye, I see movement. Darkness has eroded my eyesight. I prepare to show that it has not eroded my spirit. I snarl, showing my toothless mouth in the direction of the movement.
I am just a crone. A crone, with the spirit of a vengeful pixie, too spiteful to let go of life.
"What do you want, you trap? Have you come in here to gloat? Well, I, Belladonna the third, will not just let you! If you truly wish to pretend you are a man, then act like it, you sad excuse for a slime-human hybrid," I ready a slight fireball, more of a wisp, in my hands.
Is this the day, when the traps are going to finally get me? Have they decided to see what happens when they eat an original pixie? Will I get snuffed out of this world, the same way as leprechauns? I narrow my eyes, trying to gleam through the darkness. I am a Queen, and I will die fighting!
"Chirp?" Comes a loud squeal. I finally see that the thing outside my bars looks like a squirrel. Just how low have the traps fallen, to mate with animals now?

"I will not scream, come over here, and see if I have lost my bite," I challenge the thing.
"Your Grace, the sir knight is here to rescue you. We just managed to take over the city of Alekdonia. Please — don't insult him further. Just look at how fluffed up his tail is," a young leprechaun says, and then moves between the bars, and comes to me. She bows low, when she comes within fireball throwing distance. "It is a new dawn, your Grace. A hero and a demon lord are working to stop the traps, once and for all."
"Just where were they, when we fell?" I snarl. This could be a trap. For, the leprechauns might have been pixies, once, but now they are no better than farm animals.
Suddenly, I see the squirrel squeezing itself through the bars. Around its neck, there is a small keychain with keys. I dare to hope, then, that this is not an attempt to get the last of the pixie secrets. The ones, which I did not give up, not even during the torture sessions.
The squirrel places a paw on my chained leg, and then sniffs in the direction of the leprechaun lady.
"Right, Sir Reginald. I will unchain the Queen at once. Now, which key was for the chain?" She asks, and then begins to fumble with the keys. Finally, she takes out one, and, together with the squirrel, unlocks the heavy chain from around my ankle.
I should have chewed off my foot long ago, yet, by the time I realized that, I have already lost hope. They paraded the changed pixies before me. They had the same faces as before, but no memories of being a higher life form. For, they had been changed by the slimes.
"If you are a true knight, one sworn to protect women and children," I say, in a low tone, for my throat is raspy from disuse. "Then you will follow me to the lair of the villains, and make a final stand."
The squirrel gives out a roar, and then lowers himself down on his belly. With the help of the leprechaun, I get on top of his back, ready to ride into battle. A Queen should never outlive her people. And I have much to atone for.
Had the Pixie Queen, Belladonna III, waited for the bulk of the army, mayhap she would have survived. As things stood, she died in a failed attempt to corner the two primordial slimes, the cause of all the grieve in Florifel.
With her last breath, she gave all of her magic to the brave squirrel, who fought violently and acted as her mount. Now, with the ability to talk, and with a much clearer mind, sir Reginald was ready for the hunt.
One, with the hero and the demon lord, close behind him. For, he would not die so easily. His death would only be a joy for the traps. No, he would survive to get his acorns at the end of the battle. For all those who did not.
Rest in peace, Belladonna. Your sacrifice would not be in vain.
