Chapter 7: From the Blue with Love
In a faraway fantasy world, in a faraway fantastical sea, there is a merman, who would sigh every so often.
His name was Marius, and he really wanted to become acquainted with the hero, who was dropped off on a deserted island, rather than near the demon lord, as common sense would dictate.
Marius didn't know her name, but he had seen her from afar. Her hair was a sunny brown color, with golden strands mixed in. Her eyes, well, he never saw them up close, but from his perch on a rock, he could guess they were a light color. Perhaps even the color of the ocean, during a storm?
"Hello? Anyone? Just where am I?" He heard her birdsong-like voice from afar, and he then jumped back into the warm water. Perhaps, one day, he would go and meet the enticing human. But, for now, he could only stare at her from afar.
Marius knew that she was a hero, and could survive on an island by herself. That didn't stop him from getting her fish every morning, and every night. Gifts for which she always thanked him with a song.
Or, was she simply singing because she was taking a bath? He would not know, seeing as he didn't go anywhere near her.
With quick swipes of his tail, Marius made it to the underwater market. He really wanted to introduce himself to the hero, but not without empty hands. And so, he looked around.
There were plenty of things made out of shells, yet, one thing caught his attention. It was a bag, but it had runes on it.
Marius:
"How much for the bag," he really had to be careful, not to give away the knowledge, that he knew what this bag was.
"I can give it to you in exchange for a couple of fish. It is a strange bag, that I can't get anything out of," Aleriana, the shopkeeper, told me. I smile at her, and untie some fish from my belt. I hand three over, and take the bag.
"Have a pleasant day, Aleria," I told her, and then swam away, before she could begin to question why I was smiling like that. With the bottomless bag in tow, I made it back to the island.
The hero is sleeping on the sand, or, at least, that is what she appears to be doing. She is wearing only something to cover her chest and lower regions, and I feast my eyes on her.
She is a beauty without compare. Thin, but with muscle on her, and just about enough fat, for her body to look soft, while hiding the hardness within. I clear my throat, and prepare to call her.
Wait, what if she thinks I am a creeper? What if she doesn't like my tail? Hm, I better just leave the bag behind, and come back when my hair is in a better shape. Salt water does not equal flowing curls, it does not.
"Wait, who are you? Come out of the water. Were you the one who leaves me fish all the time?" While I was contemplating my escape, the beautiful nymph of a woman apparently saw me.
"I can't come out of the water. I am a merman," I told her, and her eyes go wide.
"You are? Could you please show me your tail? Even a little?" She asked me, and I do so. Before I know it, she is in the water, swimming towards me. "Oh my God! A fantasy creature. Wait, are there unicorns around?"
I blink at the question. Just what is a unicorn?

"You are the summoned hero," I told her, in a serious tone. "And it is my duty to assist you on your quest."
"Oh, I must be in a sugar high. The merman sounds like an NPC," she told me, confusing me all the more. "So, where is my system?"
"I don't think I understand," I told her, and she clapped her hands together.
"My system, man? If I am in a game, don't I need to accumulate levels?" She asked me, and I sigh.
"I have never heard about such a thing. You are to battle the demon lord, and vanquish him. I don't know a thing about you, besides the fact that you were summoned from another world," she sighed then, and then began to swim away from me.
"Not interested, man. I won't be breaking any nails over some demon lord. I mean, I can't even fight. And without a system? No chance," with that, she goes back to the blanket on the sand, and lays back down.
"Wait, I have something to assist you in your quest," I throw the bottomless bag at her, and then she stood up again.
"What is it?" She asked, and then placed her arm inside the bag. "Wicked!"
"Wait, don't go…" she didn't let me finish because she got inside the bag, and I heard a gurgle, and then nothing.
Oh, well, that is just…
Reincarnators, right? I mean, what sort of fool would go inside a bottomless bag? Just why do they keep on doing it? Can't I find love, darn it all?
[Status Upgrade: Marius has become the new Demon Lord for killing the Ultimate Hero of Fate: Lucy Alberts.]
Oh, I got a level. That is great. I thought I would never upgrade from a trash mob, to Demon Lord. Oh, the world is not ready for me!
The first Ultimate Hero of Fate died from a shark being herded to her, after Marius was too lazy to bring her fish. That made him into a Trash Mob.
The second Ultimate Hero of Fate startled him while he was napping, and ended up pulled under the water, for about five minutes straight. What a shame, for her favorite creature were the mermaids.
And now, a third Ultimate Hero of Fate has fallen. Which begs the question, why do the gods keep on putting them on this miserable little island?
We will never know…
