“Psyche illness is also transmittable?”

Knowing his conditions, Lu Xin felt a bit unsettled after listening to Chen Jing’s explanation.

“Yup. That’s where the origin of the word ‘contamination’ came from.”

“Different sources of contamination cause different symptoms in the infected. It’s very difficult to deal with them separately. On the surface, it appears that there’s nothing wrong with them, but their insides are actually undergoing irreversible changes. The most crucial part is that unlike those outside the walls, they live within us – none will escape from the plague if those guys decide to infect everyone.”

“Just like the ones you saw from the café,” she said while nodding to his comment.

“We still have no idea when that café monster mutated, but 15 people were already infected by the time we discovered it. The infected experienced extreme depression and killed themselves, only by the corpses were we able to find the monster. When we eventually found the monster, 37 people were already deeply infected.”

“We checked on the 37 victims, only to find that their physical body was completely fine, but their mental health, on the other hand, was in ruins. They don’t function like normal human beings anymore. The only thing we could’ve done was to seal off the district to avoid more people getting infected.”

Lu Xin asked, “So they will…”

“Be killed.” She muttered.

“They would’ve only fallen into depression if their infection was minimum, though the mortality rate was high we could’ve still saved them. However, their connections with the monster were way too close; they’ve already lost their own minds and there was virtually no point in trying to save them.”

“They were to be eliminated anyway.”

“…”

Lu Xin couldn’t help but be in shock.

“What about just eradicating the monster?”

“Destroying the contamination source doesn’t help with curing the infected.”

She paused and stared at Lu Xin, “The monster is just the start of the contamination, anyone or anything that was infected also had the ability to infect others. The one you killed in the station was the source of the contamination. Those infected who ran away after its death were a bunch of biological hazards that can start another contamination source.”

“The contamination still exists. In other words, the monster never died.”

She chuckled.

“Don’t worry though. The residents nearby were evacuated. We deployed armed forces around the area, and all ways out were sealed. None of them should be able to escape. Compared to the origin – the monster, they are way weaker. Extermination should be possible with just normal weapons.”

Lu Xin eventually realized why the “customers” were frantically running away after the waiter’s death.

Did the monster realize its definite death so it ordered the customers to run away? To prepare for its rebirth? If that’s the case, wouldn’t it be easier for it to just leave an infected outside?

“A level one monster is not as smart as you think.”

Maybe she was reading his thoughts, as Chen Jing started explaining, “It’s like their instinct to infect other people. As for the infected, they are just automatically near the source, like a body. They escape from the control when the source dies but it’s just already too late for them at that point most of the time.”

“Oh, right.”

Lu Xin nodded repeatedly at her explanations. But that didn’t stop him from asking the question that was in his mind for a long time.

“If it was that dangerous, then you… Didn’t you kind of arrange for me to go in there? Were you not worried about that… I might be contaminated?”

“…”

Chen Jing was not surprised by the question.

“You wouldn’t. You wouldn’t be contaminated.”

Putting off the fire of her cigarette, she stared at Lu Xin,

“Or in another sense, you’ve been contaminated.”

“Huh?”

His eyes were clouded for a moment.

“We didn’t send you in for you to die. There are two purposes for the examination.”

“One, to check your abilities. Two, to see if you were to go out of control.”

She listed.

“The red moon brought psyche mutates.”

“Psyche mutates caused two main consequences. One of them is the appearance of psyche monsters who can’t control their psyche power and bring harm to those around them. They are huge threats to the remaining mankind.”

“Another was the psyche mutants who can control their psyche abilities.”

“…”

She brought him another set of documents and flipped through the pages before presenting it before Lu Xin.

He could see different data and examinations on the sheet. He also saw his own picture, address, and different information about himself. The most eye-catching thing on the page was enlarged letters that speak “SPIDER-TYPE”.

She lit up another cigarette of hers, waving off the fog in front and said, “You are a psyche mutant.”

“According to the investigations, your power came from your mind’s precise control over your body.”

“Ever since the red moon, some with their abundance of psyche power gained better control over their bodies. They were able to precisely control every muscle and bone in their body. In conclusion, a very terrifying power.”

“Before the red moon, even the best athletes had around 10% control over their bodies.”

“But now, an increasing number of people are able to control their body to a higher level.”

“There’s a guy in our group called “Gecko” who also has amazing control over his body – at 80%, he’s able to perform a lot of superhuman tasks like dodging bullets and lifting heavy objects, as well as using different weapons efficiently. He can also go through holes with the sizes of a teacup. And of course, he can also climb while virtually ignoring the force of gravity.”

“…”

“You should have similar abilities.”

She kept on explaining, “We call these sorts of abilities as ‘spider-types’, referring to how they can move their limbs and body like spiders, achieving things which were impossible for humans with their accelerated reaction and speed.”

“With this, you guys are able to deal with dangerous situations.”

“You are also able to locate other psyche monsters due to being a psyche existence yourself.”

She looked at Lu Xin with a serious expression, “Therefore, you are suitable for contamination scavenging.”
