"The one you want would take at least a day to make." Matt explains as he guides us, again, to the house they will lend us. "And at least half a day to dry out. If you could wait that long, we'll do it."
"We'll wait." Euphemia replies. "We didn't have enough time to rest, anyway, so we might stay inside the house, if that's okay with you."
"You don't need to tell me twice. It really looked like y'all just stayed out for anything… We'll call when it's dinner."
"Thank you, Matt." Euphemia hands over the meat and rice. "Here's the ingredients for you."
"My gratitude." Matt doesn't seem to hide his delight. "And here we are, the house."
The house is near the gate, that much is true. It's made out of wood but unlike the house we have, this seems… better? The little holes were covered in clay, though the door seems like it would need upgrading. There isn't an efficient lock and anybody could just kick it open. The guards outside make a lot of sense.
"All we have is clay." Matt says sheepishly. "But we are all good people here, so no need to worry."
"Of course, Matt, we know."
Matt nods. "Well, I'm gonna go and bring this to my wife." He leaves us with a smile and we watch him walk away before entering the house.
The inside is not so different from the outside. There's a table and two chairs and a wooden bed with a makeshift mattress. I close the door and Euphemia breathes a sigh of relief.
"That bad?" I ask.
"No, I'm okay. I just forgot how hard it is to gauge how people do and act in certain situations." She glances at me with a fond look on her eyes. "Glad it's just us now."
I snort. "Yeah, I see you."
"I'm serious!"
"I'm guessing the village chief's back home wasn't just thinking of making you a wife for Clyde because you're pretty."
She breathes in sharply. "No. You know how it is, I came with them to sell our crops and every time I go with them, the sale goes up. I stopped going when he told me he wanted me to marry Clyde, implied it."
"All that talent, for you to be the wife of a dumbass?" I huff. "Yeah, they got one thing coming."
"They got two who left, so…"
We share a look with each other and start to chuckle like we find something funny.
"I miss this." Euphemia suddenly says. "We've never been like this since Mom died… and… I don't know, I felt like I missed having my sister."
"You missed me?"
"It wasn't just the same time, you know, and I know you… mourned her. She was your biological, blood related mother and maybe that meant you took it harder than I did but it just felt like you weren't all there with me. But now you are, and I'm glad. I'm happy. Maybe leaving that village has been good for us. Maybe we just needed to get away."
Something in my heart has been chipped away because the sister that she was talking about isn't me.
But I've been good at lying, if nothing else. And if there's one thing I have learned from all my reincarnation —
"Me too."
— is that white lies have been better than the truth, especially when the truth brings nothing but comfort only to me.
"By the way… what are we doing with the door?" She asks.
I turn my head to look at it and sigh. "We have arrows that I can probably use as a lock." I take out the sleeping bags and hand them over to Euphemia.
"That still doesn't look right." She says, referring to my Item Boxes.
"You get used to it."
"Like a scar, I know." She fixes the sleeping bags on the floor, a little far away from the door.

While I take out one arrow and well, it takes a lot of arrows to create a better lock and a I can kill anyone who tries to hurt you, my Lord with Adrian and I know that demon butler isn't kidding. So I have to whisper, "That would be our last resort, okay?"
"What's that?" Euphemia asks.
"Nothing, just complaining to myself." I clear my throat. "I finished the lock, what do you think?"
"A bit… peculiar. How does that work?"
Well, the lock is something I saw in my first life. It's just a simple door latching, bolt slide. The main problem is the actual door but it wouldn't hurt to have security. I show Euphemia how to use it and she smiles.
"You know all sorts of stuff, are you really my sister?"
"My grown strut was stunted because of Clyde." I answer automatically.
Euphemia continues smiling but then yawns a second later. "I'm a bit tired right now."
"Take a nap. They'll wake us up for dinner, anyway."
"Do you trust these people?"
"Never said I'll sleep, myself."
Euphemia looks worried for a bit. "How about you wake me up later and you nap? That's what they do for this stuff, why didn't we do it when we were outside? What if there were monsters or bandits or —" She frowns.
"Relax." I chuckle. "It's fine. We had security."
You're welcome, My Lord.
I mean, yeah, there's Adrian but there was someone… which I need to bring in right now.
"What do you mean?" Euphemia asks.
"You'll see."
Euphemia narrows her eyes suspiciously but yawns again. "Fine, you know this better than I do. I'll nap. But you better be fine when I wake up."
"Sure."
I put everything back in my Item Boxes as I waited for Euphemia to actually fall asleep. She must be really tired because she's snoring after ten minutes.
"Adrian, make sure my sister is safe. But hurting them is a last resort, however."
Adrian seems to sigh. I will try my best, My Lord.
I walk out of the house with Adrian locking it from the inside. I look for Matt, most people are still giving me curious looks and they're all whispering with each other but some of them are now looking at me with gratitude. The power of meat.
I asked one of them, "Where's Matt?"
"In the kitchen. Near the Village Chief's house."
"Thank you."
I don't exactly know where the 'kitchen' is but I'd say it's the one place with the smoke coming out.
"Sophia," Matt calls. He's with one woman. I think is his wife. "Is there anything you need?"
"Yes, sorry. I need to go out for a bit. I'll be back in like a minute. I have a… friend who's still outside."
"Oh, well, if you're okay still staying in that house even with three of you… or do you want another?"
"No, it's fine." I smile. I'm not even too sure if this friend is going to stay.
