After a few days staying here, I now find at least a little footing and routine. For example, we need to wake up at five AM. Or at least that's the initial plan but I'm an Asian in my first life and even if the water feels like snow is being melted and injected into my veins, I would still want to take a shower.

So, I woke up at four AM and actually showered. It wasn't as cold as I expected, which I think had more to do with the fact I 'Awakened'.

Which brings me to a point that I needed to check the Hell's Handbook thing but things were too hectic, I had no time for it.

Anyway, I woke up at four AM to shower, cook breakfast (there are way too many eggs on the shelves. Like it's all what we eat and my modern senses again, rings like a fire alarm) and I looked around and checked the house.

It is small, but I guess for two people, this is a decent size. The living room and kitchen are connected. In the kitchen, there are four shelves, and two drawers. The fire on the stove is maintained by wood, the water on the sink came from the well outside, and the toilet is in the kitchen as well, next to the door of the backyard. There are two doors that's located in the living room, with the exception of the main front door. One is the master's bedroom, and the other one is a room for Sophia and Euphemia. In the backyard, just like I said, the well is there and a small farm with vegetables. Cabbage, carrots, potatoes… or I think they are because they look like it. Now that I think about it, the food in every other world I was reincarnated on had the same food and their names.

God, did you not-plagiarise again?

Though, what I really want to say is how different the farming here is. In every corner of the land, there is an hourglass. When I tried to pull it out, there were some roots who tried to choke the shit out of me. And I was kindly informed by Euphemia that things like that are called Artifacts and how was given by the village's chief, and every hour, it will inject mana to the roots of the crops and it will make it more delicious, more nutritious, and faster to grow.

Every two days, they will be harvested and given to the village's chief. In one basket, we will be paid with Horned Bunny's meat, which is apparently the cheapest and yet delicious meat. Our side has three basket's worth of vegetables that we don't get in full because two of the baskets, we don't get paid for because it was a payment for the rent, and, see, fair enough but I thought it was weird because the couple next to our house only pay one basket. Is it because of the size of the house? Their house is considerably smaller than ours but the old man next to the village chief's house also only pays one basket when his house is bigger than ours.

I asked Euphemia about it but the answer was enough to piss me off.

"It was the same payment we had when Mother and Father were here."

"That deadbeat hasn't been here for years —"

" — Sophia —"

" — and Mother died already."

Euphemia looked down and sighed. "It's fine. We can handle it."

See, Euphemia is beautiful and kind and if Clyde used Sophia to get Euphemia who is borderline obsessed with her sister…

"Is this their way to pressure you?"

Euphemia blinked at me. "Huh?"

"Let me rephrase, is this their way of trying to pressure you to marry Clyde?"

She just looked away.

And then the other basket, I usually don't give away because Sophia liked Clyde and they used that to their advantage.

Jokes on them, I'm a different soul now.

…bitch.

"Soph?" Euphemia calls.

"I'm outside!" I exclaim back. I go back inside the house and watch Euphemia drag her foot. "What are you doing?" I hurriedly help her to sit on the living room 'couch', just a wooden chair, though, seriously, it's comfortable. If we ever leave this place, I'll bring this with me.

"Did you cook breakfast again?" She asks happily.

"Yes." I answer.

"Your hair is wet."

"I showered."

"It's too cold."

"It's fine. Come on, let's eat breakfast." I help her up and we slowly make our way to the dining area.

At six AM, we need to be out of the house to harvest rice and corn in the farm that everyone in the village is working for. This is where the village people earn their money but considering the vegetables are accounted for, and the rice and the corn aren't allowed to be taken for free, buying these things is the way the money goes.

Except for eggs. The eggs came from the other nearby village and are actually cheap. That's why it is all we have.

When Euphemia finally sits, I help her put some food on her plate. Eggs and bread, that is way too near to having a mold.

She says, "Do you think I can help now to harvest the rice today? My foot feels a bit better."

"No." I sit across from her. "Just focus on healing, I'll do the rest."

"Are you sure?" She looks genuinely worried. "It probably isn't easy to do farm work for two people."

Oh, Euphemia… if only you know I'm not even that tired at the end of the day, except that I am extremely dirty. And I can't deal with the dirt that well.

"I'm okay."

She looks disappointed.

"You can help arrange the corn, though."

She lightens up. Easy.

We finish eating and she puts away the plates by herself. She looks like the type to always need to do something so I let her be. I grab one of the chairs and head to the backyard. Harvesting the vegetables is my first task for today. For a normal person, this probably would take an hour, but I only take half of that time. I would be faster if I could, but I don't want to freak Euphemia out until I know what it means to be Awakened.

One basket is for cabbage, one is for carrots and the other one is for potatoes. I grab all of them inside the house.

Euphemia sees me doing so while she's drying her hands with a towel. "That was fast."

"Yeah." And say nothing else. Best answer for this kind of thing is to not answer them.

"You should have left them in the front yard. The village chief's —"

"I have something to ask the village chief, so…" I smile. "Let's go to the farm for now."

"O-okay…?"

I help Euphemia to go to the corn-putting-into-a-sack station. It's still tedious and if I have my way, I wouldn't let her work for at least a week. But it is what it is.

"Euphemia! Sophia!" Amy exclaims. Apparently this is Euphemia's best friend. "Here, I saved her a space!"

"Thank you, Amy, you're such a big help." Euphemia replies, as she slowly sinks to the seat next to Amy. To me, she says, "Are you going to the rice farm?"

"Yes, it's time to harvest them."

"Are you going to be okay?"

The work that Euphemia and Sophia do are in the paddy. Both hard jobs that I think is the village's chief's way to pressure Euphemia but all it does is piss me off. So essentially, I am doing two jobs at the same time as I am covering for Euphemia even if she works somewhere else.

"I'll be fine." I pat her head. "Just do your thing here, I'll come back before lunch."

As I walk away, I hear Amy whispers, "Is she the same Sophia who would sell you to get Clyde?"

"Stop saying that."

I snort.
