Harvesting rice is quite different here compared to modern times because while on Earth, it is grain first. And there's a whole process the farmers have to do for it to become rice, right? Well, in this place, the rice is located inside a stem. They call it Rice Stem. What they would do is to pull the stem right down to its root, and cut it off and then the rice will all slip down to the bottom where the roots used to be.
Yes, rice. They are already rice. Convenient, for sure, but terrifying because the roots look like testacle po —
"Sophia," a masculine voice calls for me. I whip my head to look at him."You're blocking my way. As a matter of fact, you just did the place I should have been doing."
"Oh?" I laugh awkwardly. "Sorry. I didn't realize."
He glares at me. "Get out of the way, then."
"Okaaay…" I go back to my original position without looking back. I can tell he's glaring at me. Like I care, though. I just continue my work. Where was I? Right, the roots. Well, they just throw it away or use it to maintain the fire in their stove with it because even if it boiled, it doesn't taste good.
Time passes by fast when I hear Euphemia's voice calling for me. I put away the knife I'm using and walk out of the farm. Apparently, it's normal here to work for at least half an hour more because of how hard it is to harvest, and how slow it will be done. Too bad for them, I already finished my side of the harvest. I'm now only doing Euphemia's part.
And I'm barely out of breath.
I can feel the other farmers glaring at me.
"Amy said she wants to eat with us today." Euphemia smiles, her face looks a little worried as she uses the towel to wipe the sweat on my face and neck. "Is that alright?"
"If she's okay with eggs, sure."
"She went first. Amy said she will give us a bottle of fruit juice she had made a couple of days ago."
"No problem." Fruit juice, huh. Wonder what the fruits are here.
Euphemia and I walk back to the house. She still drags her feet a little so we move a bit slow but the conversation is enough to compensate for it.
"Is the work hard?" She asks.
I answer, "Not really."
And then, she smiles sadly. "I feel weird that you're taking care of me this way. I'm older than you are."
"By a year."
"I'm still your older sister."
"Of course, you are. You will always be my big sister. Nothing has changed. You're just injured."
She stops walking, which means, I, too, have to stop. I glance at her and she's grinning from ear to ear. "Really?"
I frown, confused. "What?"
"You just said I'm your big sister."
"Isn't that what you are?"
She giggles. "Of course! I just, this is the first time you called me that." She beckons me to walk again. "I guess I was just excited to know that I wasn't just assuming a role in your life. You do think that about me."
I look up to the sky. Ah, Real Sophia… what have you done, baby girl?
In my ears, I can imagine her screaming, SORRY!!!!!
As we approach our house, Amy is there, which isn't surprising, but it is surprising to see an old man with a wooden cane, a middle aged woman, a man with a buff body and if I can remember correctly, the boy named Clyde. With bandages all over his body and face.
"Village chief," Euphemia greets. "What are you doing here?"
"Well, I'm actually here to get the baskets of vegetables. Especially now that we've been harvesting the rice."
"Oh, yes, my sister finished them this morning."
"Your sister?" The village chief turns his head towards me. "Sophia? What a good sister you are."
"Yeah," I never liked this sly and slimy dude when I just heard of him, and I now despise him when I finally see him.
"I'm guessing you didn't know about Clyde's injury, huh? Apparently, he got into an accident in the warehouse. I thought you would be visiting him."
"I…" was the reason why he 'got into an accident'. As a matter of fact, I am 'the accident'. "...was too busy helping my sister. She was injured as well."
"Is she now?"
I don't know what the village chief knows or why he brought Clyde here. Is it to pressure Euphemia to marry him? Is it to manipulate Sophia to give up meat and the money we're getting from the rice I harvested? Perhaps, it doesn't matter because I don't care.
Whatever situation they had with the previous Sophia had been long gone. This is a different soul in Sophia's body, and even if I still feel I don't fit this skin quite as well as the body I had in my first life. I never felt like the others were my skin to begin with, but… the life is mine. And I will do what I want. Also, even Sophia herself thinks this Clyde is a scum.
"Yes, she is. And I'm sorry for… Clyde… about his accident. He should be extra careful." I meet his eyes, and he visibly flinches. "For it not to happen again. He's a big boy now, and shouldn't be way too relaxed about his health."
Even Euphemia freezes.
The silence that follows after what I said is laughable.
It's the village chief who breaks it. "Sophia has a way with her words. It is true that Clyde needs to grow up."
I hum with a smile. "I'm just saying with the… pureness of my heart."

"Fa—father, just take the baskets now." Clyde reminds his father with a shaking hand.
"That's right. We are here to take the vegetables. Do you need help to harvest? Francis here," he points to the big buff man. "Would love to help."
"No need." I answer as I open the door to our house. I help Euphemia to go in while I show them the baskets. "It's done."
"How did —"
"I did it this morning." I cut him off. "By the way, is there any other meat except for the Horned Bunny that you can give us? I want something new."
"Sophia." Euphemia warns.
"Oh, I, uh, of course, there's not… Horned Bunny's meat is all the nearest would give our village for our hard work."
"I see. Well, that's fine. How many kilos can you give us for three baskets?"
The village chief chuckles awkwardly. "Sophia, we can only pay you for one of them, you know this, because of payment for the rent —"
"The rent, right? From what I heard, that's usually by the headcount. So there's only two of us here, me and my sister, so one basket should be equal to two people, right?"
"Y–yes. Yes. But, there were your father —"
"Who isn't here and my mother who died a long time ago. So there should be only one basket as a payment now. If you think this house is way too big for us, we can always move to a smaller one, if that's what you want. The bottom line is, we are getting two baskets worth of Horned Bunny's meat for this transaction."
"Two?" The woman echoes. "Excuse me? You're forgetting that Clyde likes meat, Sophia? My son loves that and he always appreciates it when you give his portion to him."
I smile innocently. "He can eat shit."
"Sophia!" Euphemia exclaims.
"I have said what I want to say. Give me the meat, and I will give you guys the baskets. If not, I will take my baskets all to myself and maybe sell them to the nearest town, just like you do."
"We give the artifacts to you, to grow them. Are you saying that you will betray this village?" The village chief asks.
I scoff. "I worked twice as hard out there in the rice farms. Betray wouldn't be the word I would use after I did all of that."
"You're being disrespectful towards your elder." The woman tells me firmly. "May God shame on you."
The 'God' had to help me reincarnate for one last time. I think 'God' wouldn't mind.
"Is this the decision you have made?" The village turns his head towards Euphemia.
I look at Euphemia, and meet her eyes. She looks back at me, like she's asking what I'm doing. I just nod. Hopefully, it conveys something that she understands.
She does, as she says, "Yes. It is the decision that both of us had made."
The village chief grits his teeth. "Fine. You will regret this. We will give the meat and the money to you later tonight."
"Thank you, village chief." I say, a bit sarcastic. "You've always been helpful."
They all leave with a stomp, except for the big buff guy who nods goodbye at me (I'm guessing this is really just work for him) and Clyde who looks positively terrified.
When they all leave, Euphemia grabs me by the shoulders. "What did you do?"
"Don't tell me you weren't thinking about it, sis." I add the word sis to soften her up and it actually gives the right effect because her hold to my shoulders becomes looser. "I just said what we have been thinking for a long time."
"It's just… you liked Clyde and…"
I sigh. She gets pressured to marry Clyde by coercing us to give them our food, and then using Sophia's crush on Clyde as an advantage and yet Euphemia can't do anything because she loves her sister way too much.
"I don't like Clyde anymore. He's ugly and if I have my way, I will kick his ass again." I declare. "Is that enough?"
She nods helplessly. "Okay. It is weird, though, because I thought Clyde would tell the village chief."
"Clyde is a boy who likes his ego. If he said the girl who liked him for so long actually managed to almost kill him, it would crush whatever dignity he has left."
Euphemia stares at me like I have two heads.
"What?" I ask.
"You just seem different."
I jolt. "Well… that's uh… that's what happened when you were used by your crush so he could force you to bed."
"I guess so…" it's about she has something more to say because she's about to open her mouth but luckily, an intervention comes in.
"EUPHEMIA! WHAT HAPPENED HERE? THE VILLAGE CHIEF IS MAD!" Amy exclaims excitedly. "He said you and your sister are obviously parentless bitches because of how you act."
Hmm? He said that?
Euphemia whips her head towards me and grabs me by the arms. "Do—don't do anything, okay?"
I guess the father also wants to know what it feels like to be in an 'accident'.
