Chapter 8: Part 8 – Releasing Some Mana

“Why?”

“Complicated, but simply I have way too much mana and I can’t control this much so I will have to blow off some steam so I didn’t want to ruin a nice dress.”

Her mother nodded reluctantly and then responded with as she returned to her book.

“Fine but be back by five it will be dinner time then, and be safe.”

“Yay.”

Sof-ia muttered quietly while continuing to walk off in the direction of the main hall. After walking down its entire length she reached a ring made off stone engraved with some runes she knew and others that just made her mind go more fuzzy if she staired a them for to long she chuckled as she touched a podium just in front of it and with a flash of her blue marks a purple swirl appeared in the middle she then chuckled and walked through she reappeared on the other side and all she could see for miles was barren dirt.

‘Perfect.’

She thought as the blue marks flashed again and out of her back sprouted a pair of wings but the feathers were made with metal. Now, while a dress that showed off her back would be scandalous in court it was acceptable for mages to wear it when practical so her dress was still fine. The span of the wings was about eight meters.

And with a flap she was in the air gliding she traveled for about five miles before she stopped and moved her on hand over bracelet on her other one cupping her hand over it she then flipped her hand over to reveal a small red pebble she threw it in the air and it reached about a hundred meters high before exploding in a small cloud of red smoke.

“Great no one around to watch.”

She muttered to herself as she cracked her fingers and stretched her neck.

“Let’s see what I can do with this much mana.”

She grinned as the marks on her body glowed brightly and all around her in about a one mile radius thousands of 1cm wide needles pierced the ground there were so many off them that the land scape was now colored grey, her wings disappeared as she channeled all her focus into this spell the marks grew even brighter as she channeled all that energy into the ground suddenly she felt a heavy weight on her as she watched all the one meter high needles begin to crack and after a few minutes they have all collapsed under their own weight and now make up dozens of shards all over the ground she then sends the mana into her arms and the crushing weight stops as all the tiny shards begin to move she starts waving her hands together in the same direction as the shards start to form a tornado around her she makes sure not to let any cut her.

She then sends a small amount of energy into her foot and then stomps it on the ground then slides it sideways away from her as a massive hole appears in the ground she then directs the tornado of shards with her arms by pointing one of them at the twenty meter wide and eighty meter deep hole as all the shimmering shards begin to fly into the hole. After they are all in she does another stomp with her foot and the hole is covered she then falls back on the dirt with thump as she breathes heavily and opens her palm while glancing at the pea sized piece of metal in her hands. She is grinning madly.

‘Now, that was fun.’

She thought to herself she had never been able to do that, in fact for a mage only 21 years old to be capable of creating this much permanent metal she would be praised as a strategic resource and locked away by the kingdom. So she decided she would keep this a secret. She then closed her eyes, rested her head on a pillow that had suddenly appeared. Her blue marks were practically invisible with only the occasional light before fading away with her skin.

‘Better get back.’

She thought she had not realized that she had been in the badlands for about six hours already. She got up and the wings again resprouted from her back as she flew towards the gate ring.

She landed, went back through and got a more modest dress than the one that showed her back and went above her knees after taking an actual bath not a ‘magic one’ as her mother once put it. She then headed for the dining room like her mother had told her to when there was a gong sound.

As she was walking there, she was thinking about why she had gotten so powerful all of a sudden, what was this random gibberish appearing in her brain. She would have to figure this out, she would go to her father’s library after dinner.
