Chapter 13: Chapter 12 – Cat girl meets another cat girl’s mom

But... there was one small problem.

"How far is it, nya?" I asked Lizz, praying that it wouldn't take something like a whole life time to get there.

"It was on the other continent," Lizz answered. "You will have to cross a vast ocean, with unpredictable storms and treacherous currents. After that, comes a mountain range, with peaks so high they are shrouded in clouds. Then, you will see a volcano, with its constant threat of eruption and molten lava flows. And when you get past that, there will be the jungle waiting for you, with its dense foliage hiding all manner of deadly creatures. And lastly, you will be welcomed by the never-ending icefields of the North, where freezing temperatures and blizzards could be fatal."

Lizz described everything so vividly, making my motivation dwindle just thinking about that. The thought of all the obstacles I would have to overcome was too overwhelming.

But then, the girl suddenly moved closer, and looked at me with her dreamy eyes. "But if you really want to go… I can go with you," she whispered, playfully.

"Are… are you sure, nya?"

I couldn't believe my cat ears. Lizz was having such a comfortable life here with her family. She had so much potential, and so many opportunities ahead of her. And yet, she wanted to come with me on this long and dangerous adventure, based on nothing more than a mysterious and random dream?

But Lizz seemed to have none of my doubts. For some reason, she was excited about the idea. In fact, way too excited!

"Yes! It will be so much fun! That's it! I'll go ask Mom right now!" And with determined eyes, she yelled, her voice echoing through the house. "MOM! I'M GOING ON AN ADVENTURE!"

"What? What a minute nya!"

I wanted to stop her, but it was too late!

A woman's voice responded. “Oh nice! Where are you heading?"

The voice was coming from downstairs, it was a super sweet voice.

“To the Northern Land!”

“To the Northern Land, huh? Okay!”

What? I was shocked. How could her mom possibly agree to such a ridiculous idea?

But then, Lizz's mom stated one condition for that to happen.

"You can travel anywhere you want. But only if you can manage to last thirty seconds fighting against me."

Hearing those words, Lizz immediately frowned. I just sat there, on the bed, confused, wondering why was she reacting like that.

A few moments later, I got downstairs and finally understood why her mother had made such a stipulation.

Oh my, she was not a typical mom.

She was the mother of destruction!

As I saw her, my jaw dropped. This woman was also a catgirl but her body was built like a mighty panther, with extreme height and rock-hard six-pack abs! A powerful black and purple outfit adorned her body, fitting really tightly. Looking at her, I had a feeling that she could easily crush any man to death with those huge, buff arms. However, despite her muscularity and fearsomeness, she was also young and beautiful. Her face was very similar to Lizz. She had the same short hairstyle, but her eyes were purple instead of green.

”Oh, Felicia, this is my mom!” Lizz held my hand and introduced me to her mom.

“Hey, isn’t this Miss DeathWhizkersz? So you’ve woken up? How are you feeling?”

“I’m… I’m good. Nice to meet you, Mrs. Lucarias… nya…”

Lizz's mother then shook my hand and told me to call her Cleo instead. She was quite surprised to see that my name was Felicia. But Lizz quickly explained the situation.

Actually, my made-up situation.

“I see… that’s so sad.” Cleo exclaimed, after hearing about my lost memories.

“But, anyways, thank you so much for bringing me here, nya.” I bowed, thanking her for letting me stay. And as she explained, I now had an idea of what had happened.

It was Cleo who found me lying on the ground, inside a small temple of the Goddess Aquilonyan when she returned from her mission. She brought me back to her house and instructed Lizz to take care of me.

“So, what’s with all this adventuring stuff that you were talking about?”

“Ah! I want to journey to the Northern Lands with Felicia!” Lizz said while chewing on a strip of crispy chupal bacon. She shared some with me, and they were very delicious.

Cleo stepped closer to her daughter, narrowed her eyes and then... bop!

“Ouch!” Lizz hugged her head as her mother just casually karate chopped her. There was a really loud thud sound, and I was amazed that the girl’s head didn’t split instantly upon receiving that hit.

“Don’t be silly. Do you even know how dangerous it is for you to go there?”

“I do!” Lizz protested. “But I’m 17 now, I’m an adult! I can beat C-ranked monsters already!"

“That’s not good enough!”

And just like that, they argued non-stop, completely disregarding my existence. But I didn't mind. I just sat there with chupal bacon stuffed in my mouth, listening to all the chaotic yelling. It was fascinating, because as the two continued, I learned so much more about these particular girls.

Turned out, Lizz’s grandmother, mother, big sisters, all set out on their own adventure at a very young age. This was either because of some important missions, or just simply because they were in love with hot guys. And now, the little girl too?

Wasn't this bloodline a little bit… too wild?

After learning all of that, I was a bit scared to be honest, but also amused.

“Like I said, unless you reach B rank and earn my approval, you won’t be going anywhere!”

“But you are S ranked! Earning your approval is like shooting down stars! Impossible!”

“Then, what if a demon appears in front of you? What can you do? Let Ms DeathWhizkersz get eaten?”

“Then, I will sacrifice myself to save her! I will protect her with my life!”

“Huh? Sacrificing? You think you are strong enough to do that?”

And at this point, Lizz started tearing up. She cried, unable to contain her emotions any longer.

Still, her mother didn’t back down. 

“Miss DeathWhizkersz!” Cleo suddenly called my name. “What do you think? I know that you have to go on your own mission as soon as possible. But… do you think you and Lilia will have any chance of surviving out there? If your answer is yes, then I will let you two go right now.”

Lizz held onto my hands. Her eyes were all watering. Oh my, those cat eyes really made my heart ache. I really wanted to say yes. But... I had to tell the truth, because this was a serious matter.

So, “I don’t think so, nya.” I gave my most honest answer. "After all, I don't know how to fight nya..."

As Lizz let go of my hand, I could see disappointment on her face. She sat down at the table, her head hanging low and her ears drooping. The atmosphere in the room was heavy with disappointment and sadness. I felt guilty and wanted to comfort her but didn't know how. My heart ached as I watched her in silence, unsure of how to make things right.

After all, I was not a real DeathWhizkersz. I was just someone who happened to be reincarnated into this particular body. I had never been to any martial art workshop nor had any fighting experience. I had never even been in a fight before. So, how could I possibly fight monsters now?

“That’s not true,” Cleo suddenly said. “My eyes can see the huge amount of mana dwelling within you. It gives me chills actually. So, I think maybe you just forgot how to fight.”

Hearing that, Lizz immediately stood up and held onto her mother's arm.

"Mom? Is that true? You think she can fight?"

Lizz's emotions changed so quickly that it amazed me.

“Of course! And I think I can help Felicia regain her power if that is the case.”

As I thought about it, there was actually a high chance of me having combat power right here. After all, I was reincarnated, similar to how the protagonists of many Japanese light novels were. So, the gods must had given me something like cheat-abilities, right?

“But mom!” Lizz interrupted. “If Felicia tries to remember something, she will be in immense pain! Is that really okay for her to do?”

“Akkk!” I coughed. The whole ‘I somehow lost my memories’ was just an elaborate lie. I didn't have to worry about that! So, I moved closer to Lizz and held her hands, looking into her shiny eyes. “Actually, I can bear it! No matter how hard and painful it will be, I will try my best nya! I was alone before, but now, I’ve found my purpose. I can finally protect you, I can finally go on adventure with you nya!”

“Fe… Feliciaaaaa! OOOaaaa!"

Hearing that passionate speech, Lizz jumped at me and started crying like a baby! The catgirl was deeply moved!

“Nice! What a fighting spirit!” Cleo was also holding back her tears. “Felicia, if you perform well, I may reconsider and let Lizz go with you.”

Lizz then jumped for joy and hugged her mother too! 

“Then, please take care of me nya!” I bowed.

“Of course, you can count on me!” Cleo said with a big smile. “However, I'm quite busy this week with the Knight Order. How about next week? Five days from now? You should take care of yourself in the meantime, as we will practice very hard! I will teach you some basic sword skills and magic techniques, then we'll see if you can remember anything."

“Yes, I will, nya!” I replied with determination. 

Well, training was certainly very harsh and difficult, I knew that, especially training with Cleo. But... learning swords and magic? Honestly, there was nothing more exciting than this. 

I couldn't wait to find out what flashy moves I could do.
