In those few seconds, even the sound of the air condition seemed to have been thrown into the vacuum.
The little assistant felt a drop of cold sweat slipped down his neck. He gulped slowly. He wanted to cry but the tears wouldn’t come-- --
Had he lost his mind? Did he think he could live off of curiosity?
He dared not trade his life for an answer again. His eyes darted around and finally he noticed the brown notebook under Luo Xiu’s fingers. His eyes lit up and he quickly changed the subject.
“Oh, right, Brother Luo. Something just occurred to me the other day!”
Luo Xiu looked up. “?”
“When you first got the notebook, didn’t you mention that Mengzhi said you two have met on July 31?”
Luo Xiu’s eyes flickered. “July 31, 2018. You recall that day?”
“Yes!” The little assistant clapped his hands together. “I thought the date sounded particularly familiar and it dawned on me when I was organizing some other documents for you the other day – if it was 2018, you were signing your contract with Dingke Media as your agent end of July!”
“… …”
Luo Xiu was taken aback a little.
The answer obviously surprised him and he did not react to that for a few seconds.
The little assistant said with complacency, “I knew you never cared about being an actor and certainly had long since forgotten about this.”
Luo Xiu recollected himself, “Are you sure it was that day?”
“Mmmhmm. I even looked up the electronic version of the contract just to confirm the date. The date on it was July 31, 2018.”
Luo Xiu lowered his quiet and remained silent.
The little assistant asked curiously, “Well, now that we know about this. Can you recall when you’ve run into Master Mengzhi that day?”
After remaining silent for a while, Luo Xiu leaned back into the chair.
The sky tended to light up late in this mountainous area. It was still dim outside. The light from the floor lamp, through the petal shape shade casted a shadow on those handsome features.
Hiding inside the shadow, the eyes that were usually tender and smooth like jade were tainted with profound gloominess.
The little assistant wasn’t surprised by the answer. “That make sense that you don’t remember. It’s been almost two years. Most everyone would not remember running into someone that they didn’t know from two years ago. Not to mention someone stuck up….. ahem, not to mention your tendency to not care about earthly matters.”
Luo Xiu looked up and gave him a look that he couldn’t read.
Feeling a guilty conscience, the little assistant mumbled, “I am telling the truth here. If you don’t believe me – let me just ask you this simple question, if Boss Zheng, Zheng Haolei, heir of Dingke Media is to stand in front of you right now, would you recognize him?”
“Why do I need to be able to recognize him?”
The little assistant sighed helplessly. “Brother Luo, I’ve heard it from Sister Ana already. He came in person when you signed your contract with Dingke.”
Luo Xiu nodded nonchalantly. “Is that so? I don’t remember it.”
Little assistant, “… …”
Luo Xiu carefully placed the notebook back onto the nightstand before getting up from the couch.
The little assistant followed behind him quickly, “Take you to the studio?”
“Mmm.”
Luo Xiu took a few steps and stopped abruptly. He turned and asked, “Where’s the scarf?”
“Scarf?” The little assistant was taken aback a little. He stopped and asked, “What scarf?”
Lin Xi looked over at the brown notebook sitting on the nightstand and said, “In the diary, she mentioned that she had sent me a scarf as a gift over the new year time last time.”
“Oh, the gift from Mengzhi?” The little assistant smacked himself on his forehead and said disturbingly, “She sent you a gift before? I don’t recall.”
“… …”
When he looked up after he was done talking, the little assistant noticed that Luo Xiu was looking at him coldly.
The little assistant, “… you really can’t blame me on this one, Boss. This loyal fan of yours is no joke. She has been sending you a big box of healthcare supplement, tea, and gifts every month. Besides, you were the one who refused to accept them and had us keep them in the office.”
