The door to the bar opened letting in a slight breeze of cold air. A woman dressed in a business suit jacket, blouse, an her legs clad in transparent stockings peeking out of thigh high skirt entered the loud room shivering and hugging herself to keep herself warm.

Some local drunkards and country girls company were singing karaoke at the small scene with the applause and whistles of their friends sitting at the tables near them.

The room was heavily adorned with Christmas decorations and packed full with people. Day before holidays was usually the most crowded for this place.

With the festive atmosphere, loud cheers and noise of music no one even took notice how she entered shivering and with almost blue lips from the cold.

She waddled to the bar counter on her high heels and sat on one of the vacant chairs, calling the barman over. The man behind the counter looked her over with a raised eyebrow noticing how bad she looked.

"How can I help you?" He said leaning over to make himself better heard over the music.

"Whiskey. Make it double. And hot tea." She said.

"I'll be back in a minute." Barman said.

"Should have dressed warmer for a walk in this weather." Said a woman's voice from the side.

She turned to the side and saw a young woman a bit younger than her sitting one seat away from her, turning a glass of whiskey in her hands.

"Both of us." Answered the woman glancing at her neighbor with a raised brow making the young woman smirk at that remark.

"Yeah. Let me guess, you also had a shitty day." Said the younger woman pressing her lips together with depressing look.

"Guess we both did." Said the woman in a business suit looking over her new conversation partner.

Young woman was dressed in all black and had raven black hair with a few strands of red in them. She had a piercing in her brow and nose. On the fingers she had a few silver rings with skulls and some runes. Black leather pants, black boots and black jacket.

"There are winter Goth clothes as well, you know?" Said the business woman with a slight smirk.

"No shit. Heard of winter mantles yourself business lady?"

"My baggage did not arrive in time. This was all I had with me." She said and heard a glass thump on the counter near her, as the barman brought her whiskey and a cup of hot water with a tea bag in it.

"You're quite far from the airport." Said the goth girl

"My second flight was canceled because of the weather. But I was in a hurry. Though I'll rent a car and get to the next city to catch another flight. Guess it was shitty weather for driving too. Turns out pressing throttle so hard in this weather wasn't the smartest idea. Went off the road and busted the car in a field a few miles away from here. I remembered passing this place, so I back trailed on foot to find…a place to get drunk, I guess, because it looks like I am not in a hurry anywhere now."

"Ooof. That sucks. You ok?" Said Goth girl.

"Just a few scratches. More cold than painful."

"I am Kira by the way." Said goth girl.

"Kaitlyn." Said the business woman stretching her hand for a greeting. They shook hands and took their glasses.

"For a crap day." Said Kira, raising her glass in a toast.

"So what's your crap day story?" Asked Kaiyn after sipping wine.

"Just came back to the country. Thought of visiting my friends on the way to my parents home. Turns out traveling right after two days with no good sleep wasn't the smartest idea. Overslept my stop and rode the bus way too far away from my destination. Went off the bus to get the one going in the opposite direction, but it won't be here for many hours still. So here I am. Wherever this is."

"Well for my sister in misfortune then." Said Kaitlyn, raising whiskey in a toast, making them both smile.

They sat chatting casually sitting one seat away from each other, without making an attempt to get closer as they both knew they were not really getting friends. As they were just way too different and had nothing in common beside getting to this bar at the same time. Once they figure out what to do next, they would go their separate ways and never meet again.

"So the nearest motel is in that town more than twenty miles away?" Said Kaitlyn after Kira told her she already asked a barman about it.

"Yep." Said Kira.

"And there's no taxi of course…" Sighed Kaitlyn

"Yeah. Unless you want to ask one of the guys here, " Said Kira looking around the bar " to give you a ride." She added with a tone pointing at a double entendre in her words.

Kaitlyn looked around the room and cringed.

"Not sure I want to." She said, understanding Kira's unwillingness to hitch a ride with anyone here. It looked like the bar was full of half drunk country bumpkins she would never trust to get in the car with herself.

"Well, " said Kira "I think I'd ride that guy over there." She said pointing with her eyes at a guy sitting alone on the other side of the counter, slowly sipping his beer while watching the scene and doing nothing but listening to people sing flat the whole evening.

"You mean ride WITH him, right?" Said Kaitlyn raising an eyebrow with a smirk.

"I said what I wanted to say girl." Answered Kira with a smile. "Don't tell me you did not glance his way a single time you were here, I know you did. I sure did myself."

"Well, he is handsome, but…" Said Kaitlyn.

"What? Not your type? Come on, what's wrong with him?" Asked Kira.

"First he is a stranger."

"Yeah, that's the point of one night stands, you know? Plus you would get a roof over your head for tonight." Said Kira with a smirk, making Kaitlyn roll her eyes.

"Second, him sitting alone kind of gives me a serial killer vibe."

"Well if my killer is so hot I would not.mine letting him penetrate me with that weapon of his a few times." Said Kira

"Ok, why are you still here then? Go ask him…to ride you." Said Kaitlyn with a smirk.

"Doubt I have a chance. Guys like him have more interest in gorgeous women like you. Now that you are here my chances went out the window." Said Kira self-deprecatingly.

"Want me to move away?" Asked Kaitlyn.

"Nah, better chat with you than ward off the drunkards like I've been doing until you came." Said Kira with a smirk. "Now that they all concentrate on you, I am finally safe. You are my anti-mosquito lamp."

Kaitlyn looked around the room and noticed a few drunken gazes with smirks looking her way.

"Damn." Sighed Kaitlyn.

"Well, you can always leave me to the drunken lions here and go sit with that hot hunk over there and have him ward off the mosquitos for you." Said Kira with a smile.

"Nah. Not in a mood for any penetration tonight."

"Too bad. Bet he'd warm you up a lot quicker than the tea." Smirked Kira

"I've got whiskey too."

"If you do decide to ask him for a ride, do me a favor, let me hitch a ride with you too until motel."

"Fine. But promise to ask the same for me.if you find a decent guy willing to give you a ride to the motel."

"Only to the motel?" Asked Kira with a coy smirk.

"I think the smartest way would be to get on that bus with you and get to whatever city it is going to." Sighed Kaitly

After that they chatted about all and nothing. What a crap weather it was and that the storm was coming this way, about their day, about their travel. Until one of the drunk guys finally interrupted them leaning on the counter between them with his back to Kira, while eyeing Kaitlyn with his eager eyes.

"Hey, gorgeous."  He slurred with a tone of definitely thinking himself a pick up master.

"No thanks." Said Kaitlyn "and if you don't mind me and my friend are having a conversation here."

"I didn't even say anything yet." He said slowly turning to look at the goth girl behind him for a moment and wrinkled his face from seeing her looked back at Kaitlyn

"You don't have to. My answer is no, so leave us alone please." Said Kaitlyn with a frost in her voice.

"Alright." Said the guy turning his hands up in a pacifying manner. "As you want." He added waltzing away. It was loud in the room but they both managed to hear his 'bitch' as he walked off.

"Ooh. You turned away from a promising night." Said Kira with a smirk.

"Ugh." Answered Kaitlyn, rolling her eyes.

It did not take long for a few more incidents with almost the same result.

"You know what? I think I am about ready to jump our hotty there already." Said Kaitlyn with a smirk after another 'drunk guy hitting on her' attempt was thwarted.

"Now we're talking." Laughed Kira. "I knew you would see the truth, my padawan."

"Well on the other hand he must be tired of mosquitos himself. It's what? A hundredth one he's turning off now?" Said Kaitlyn, looking how the guy had a quick conversation with some girl before she walked away and he smiled with a sad smile before turning his gaze back to the scene.

Half an hour later the barman came over to them with a sad look.

"Girls I am afraid we would have to close down early today. Weather forecast just gave a warning that the storm is unexpectedly turning this way and we might soon have a sudden blizzard."  He said and then went to inform all other clients to start packing and get out.

"Now we are fucked." Said Kira.

"How long till your bus?" Asked Kaitlyn.

Kira quickly glanced at her watch and cringed.

"Enough to die in this weather." She answered, sighing.

"Then we are both in trouble. So what do you suggest we do?"

"Either ask a barman to give us a ride or that hot guy. So far he looks decent." Said Kira.

"Hey gorgeous." Said the voice interrupting their discussion.

Kaitlyn turned toward a newly arrived drunk prick with a wrinkle on her eyebrow.

"Want a ride?" He said with his eyes traveling all over her but her eyes.

"No."

"Blizzard is coming sweetheart. My friends and I are going to continue the party at my place. You'll be fine with us. Let's go."

"I don't want it. Go on without me."

"Come on, don't be a Mother Mary. We both know ya came here to get something for the night." Said the drunk guy not willing to give up. "And the evenings ending here so ya aint get anything if ya stay. Come on, you won't regret it." He said, grabbing her hand.

"Let go of me!" Said Kaitlyn.

"Stop playing heart girl, it ain't doing ya no good. Come with us."

"Hey shithead, get your dirty hand away from her." Said Kira from behind him.

"The fuck you just said bitch?" He said turning around to the goth girl. He wanted to push the girl to make her know her place but she grabbed his hand and slammed him against the counter, knocking him off with a crunching sound of his nose breaking, before his body fell on the ground.

"What the fuck?" Screamed his friend that stood not far away. Their smirks quickly turned to fury and they rushed to the girls.

Kira clenched her jaw knowing that she would not be able to fight them all off, but she did not want to let Kaitlyn get hurt so she stood in front of her covering her with her own body.

However before the first punch landed in her the guy closest to her whirled around and was slammed against the counter just like his friend before, dropping unconscious on the ground. Before others even understood what happened a few punches in the jaws made them drop on the ground one by one, quickly turning the bar deathly silent.

The hot guy the two of them were eyeing the whole evening stood over the group of unconscious bodies with his fists clenched while looking around. Only after making sure no one else wanted to have a go at him or girls did he finally turned to the two women.

"You ok?" He asked, looking at Kira.

"Yeah, thanks." She said a bit shy.

"I gotta say that slam was beautiful." He said pointing at the guy that Kira knocked off.

"Yeah. Kinda did that unconsciously. You saved my ass here."

"Sorry Phil." Said the guy looking at the barman that looked at him with a face clearly saying 'And what am I supposed to do with this?'. "But they started it. You saw it."

"Whatever, Chris. You explain this to the sheriff."

"Don't be this way Phil. This guy over there is not unconscious. Throw water at him and let him pick his friends and get the hell out of here. We both know if we wait for the sheriff we are going to be stuck here until the storm." Said the guy.

"Sorry about all that." Said the guy looking at Kira.

"It's not your fault."

"Yeah, but it's in my bar they picked on you." He said. "Can I offer you two another drink before you go?"

"You could offer us a ride." Said Kira.

"Kira." Whispered the other girl from behind her.

"A ride?" Asked the guy looking at them questioningly.

"Yeah. We are kind of stuck here and our bus is hours away. So if you close down we are left waiting for a bus on the street. So if you could give us a ride to the motel, we would be very thankful."

"Umm. Okay…I guess." He said hesitatingly. "I'll just need to close down while Phil cleans up if we want to get out before the storm. So you'll have to wait a bit."

"Sure. Thanks. I am Kira by the way. This is Kaitlyn." Said Kira stretching her hand

"Oh sorry." Said the guy. "Chris. Chris Summers." He said, shaking her hand gently and nodding to Kaitlyn before walking around the counter and talking with the barman.

"You know, I think you were greatly wrong." Whispered Kaitlyn.

"About?"

"He barely glanced at me, while he could not tear his eyes off from you." She whispered.

"Bullshit. He definitely was shy about you." Whispered back Kira while sitting down near Kaitlyn at the counter.

A few moments later Chris brought them another round of whiskey while smiling at them and went to tap on the cash machine.

"No seriously. His eyes are only on you." Whispered Kaitlyn.

They sat sipping the drinks, while watching the barman wake up the guy on the floor and then help the poor fella pick up his friends one by one to drag into the car under the intense gaze from Chris, that made him shiver. Bar was already empty by then with all the patrons quickly riding off, escaping the storm

Chris still made a call to the sheriff as the girls heard him talk on the phone explaining what happened and then promising to talk again after the storm. The sheriff apparently had no interest in riding here on the brink of the blizzard coming their way if there was no immediate danger to anyone's life anymore.

After another half an hour Chris came over toward them picking their empty glasses.

"Umm, ladies. I know you asked me to get you to the motel." He said with hesitation in his voice, making two women raise an eyebrow at him.

"I don't mean anything here. If you really insist then I will drive you there. It's just…it's in the opposite direction from my cottage and by the time I'll get you there I am sure I will be riding home in the middle of the storm."

"I'll pay for your room in a motel." Said Kaitlyn quickly"And also for your trouble too. Just name the price. I will not bargain. We really need a…" She stopped after feeling the woman at her side squeeze her tight and glanced her way. Kira looked at her with a wide eye and yryed tomshow her something with her face, making Kaitlyn raise her eyebrow with a question.

"Sorry my panicky friend here, Chris. She gets all chattery when she's nervous."

"I am not." Whispered Kaitlyn crossing her arms.

"So you had some other idea that you wanted to offer?" Asked Kira looking at Chris.

"Well my cottage has spare rooms. And I am stocked with food. So…umm if you don't mind. Maybe I could offer you to stay at my place until the storm passes." Chris said, scratching his cheek with a shy smile.

Kira looked at Kaitlyn with a raised eyebrow, and hit her leg with her knee under the table.

"Umm. Why not." Said Kaitlyn with hesitation.

"That's nice, Chris. Thanks." Said Kira with a smile. "But you're not some serial killer are you? Because my friend here is kind of a scardy cat."

"I am not." Whispered Kaitlyn.

"You can call the sheriff and tell him who you are and where you are going if you want. He said he'll check on me first thing after the storm, so…" Chris went took an old wire phone from the under the counter and placed a visit card with sheriffs number in front of them.

"Sorry. I…umm." Said Kaitlyn a bit panicky that she now looked like a jerk, not trusting a guy that saved them from trouble and kindly offered help.

"No. I am glad you two are not trusting me easily. Means you are a smart woman. I like that. Please make a call, I insist."

After a quick questioning through the call, answering a few of sheriffs questions where he asked their names and whether they are the same girls that Chris protected from the drunkards, then asking them to stay at Chris's place until he visits after the storm to have a small chat, which they assured him they will, they ended the call and got ready to leave.

Chris shook hands with Phill wishing him a safe road, then closed down the bar and turned to walk to the car. Only then something finally crossed his mind making him stop with realization.

"What is it?" Asked Kaitlyn covered in a blanket that Chris gave her after he saw she did not have any mantle and was going to come out outside in just her business lady suit.

"I totally forgot. I have a two seat pickup. Hope you don't mind sitting on each other's lap."

"I booked the seat!" Quickly said Kira laughing and ran to the car.

"Sorry." Said Chriss looking at Kaitlyn apologetically.

"It's ok. This is not the worst that happened to me today." She said and all three of them hopped in the car.
