Chapter 4: Monsters and Titans

“The systems in this plain are divided into three. The first is the attack system. The second is the defense system. And the third is the healing system. If you had the chance to choose, which system would you use?”

 

Syaoran's eyes were still blurry from suffering too many blows from those brats, who attacked him with the help of the level two attack system. Damn, the first level was already very difficult for him to parry. And now he had to feel it twice as much.

"What has happened?" Now Syaoran panicked. He hastily pressed all the buttons in his data table, hoping that there was some kind of secret button that could continue the activation.

Finally, Syaoran waved his palms, one thing he always saw when system users wanted to remove system chips from their bodies.

The chip finally bounced, glistening golden in the sun.

 

Syaoran looked at it with a confused face, and with blood was splattered everywhere.

 

“There must be something wrong. Maybe I was in too much of a hurry. I will try again.”

 

So, he pressed his forefingers around the chip, waiting for it for a while. Soon a data table appeared in the air, which only he could see.

"Argh!" Syaoran groaned, flicking his palm until the chip could come out of his fingers. After that, he would press both index fingers to start the system again. But the result was always the same, the system he had failed to configure with his body.

 

His chest felt burning with a bubbling rage. He almost threw the chip away. But before that happened, Bao-Bao's flapping wings startled him. When he looked up, Mai Lin was already waving majestically in the air, like a formidable warrior.

 

"Syaoran!" She shouted and rejoiced.

 

The grass around them rolled like waves from the blow of Bao-Bao's glazed blue wings.

 

Squinting, Syaoran found Mai Lin had already thrown herself down and ran over to him. Beautiful facial lines, also a bright and charming smile. There was no more beautiful smile in the Longlong Forest than her.

She helped Syaoran to walk toward Bao-Bao. In a swift leap, they were already on its back, then hovering in the air.

 

Along the way, Mai Lin did not speak at all, because she was busy seeing the Longlong Forest while patrolling, in case other children were secretly using the system.

 

“Syaoran, did you know that now too many children using the system are scattered throughout the plains? I'm afraid a big catastrophe will happen,” she muttered, dodging a giant flower as she turned while gripping Bao-Bao's glass feather. "You know the rules, right? No one can use any of the systems, because that means…” Then she shook her head. "I know you'll understand. So even if many people oppress you, you will persist without breaking the rules.”

 

Bao-Bao continued to fly across the extremely long and vast Longlong Forest. Occasionally they had crossed several other village areas that were still under the leadership of the Jang Clan. But several other villages were led by other clans. It didn't matter because they lived side by side, they took care of each other.

 

“Soon we will arrive, Syaoran! Fasten your seat belts!” Mai Lin joked, inclining her face while stomping her feet for Bao-Bao to speed up their flight.

 

Giant trees stretched beneath them, some roots and tendrils sometimes moving like they’re life due to genetic mutations. Some became carnivores, preying on humans and small animals.

 

They were one of the nightmares of humans forced to live in the Longlong Forest. In addition, there was one greatest enemy for humans in Longlong Forest.

 

“Monsters!” shouted Mai Lin, as a gigantic head suddenly emerged from the ground, breaking through and making a very large hole. With its fury, the monster clawed at Bao-Bao so that it bounced away, toppling Mai Lin and also Syaoran to the ground.

 

Syaoran's body hit the rocks, sustaining severe fractures. Blood dripped from the corner of his lips. As his hazy eyes tried to open, a life human-eating tendril moved toward him.

 

In a time of urgency like this, he only thought of one way, which was to use the system he had just received!
