Chapter 37: A ghost secretly in a party! – Chapter 37

All of the parties that managed to pass the second exam took a break before starting the other one. In the third exam, which also was the last one, we had to hunt low-level monsters as proof of our strength. Of course, Aya had no other choice but to join Ito’s party together with the other girls. When Aya woke up I explained everything that had happened to her. 

[ If Hiroki is with me then I don’t mind. ] Those were her words when I explained the situation to her..

“Ito! Ryoko! Aya decided to join us!”  Tamiko led Aya to her party together with a supervisor. For each party, a supervisor was assigned for this hunt. They are veteran adventurers that work for the guild. So in order to confirm each party’s abilities in a hunt, the supervisors were going to confirm whether they were able to do this. And in case we encountered a dangerous monster, the supervisor would provide protection. Or that's what the guild said about the last exam.

“We’re glad to have you with us.” Ito immediately greeted Aya the moment she saw her. But I don’t fully trust them, yet. That's why I had one eye out on them.

“Aya, I’m glad you decided to join us.” Ryoko also greeted Aya with a smile on her face. 

“I-I’m in your care.” And compared to them, Aya’s voice was really soft and cute. I hope they don’t mistreat her kindness or make fun of the way she talks. One of my friends had this kind of problem and he got bullied because of it.

“Is this everyone in your party?” The supervisor asked when Aya finished talking. This guy’s voice sounded as if he was annoyed by this kind of thing. He held a long sword on his waist and tough-looking armor. 

“Yes” And Ito, who seemed to be the leader of this party, responded to our supervisor.

“Then, let's get this over with…” The supervisor said as he led us into the forest where low-level monsters wander around. Just like adventurers, monsters are ranked based on their strength. The monsters we were going to hunt are from ‘j’ rank to ‘i’ rank. They are the weakest monsters but still, they are dangerous if we don’t be careful.

Suddenly, Ito pulled out his sword as he was on his guard. Even Ryoko and Tamiko pulled out their wands as they were looking straight ahead. As I was trying to understand why they acted like that, I immediately heard noises coming from a certain distance as well. Well, these monsters shouldn't be that difficult for me and Aya since we got a bunch of new skills from Aito.

Anyway, I wonder what kind of monster is coming towards us. I tried using ‘appraisal’ as I thought that to myself.

“Everyone, don’t let them touch you! They have a special skill that poisons your skin.” Ito warned everyone the moment some H-rabbits came out... Ryoko chanted some kind of gibberish words. That's when everyone’s bodies started glowing for a bit, feeling the effects of her chants.

I see, she cast buff effects on everyone within the party. With this, it will be much easier to attack and defeat the monsters. Aya already had her dagger out and she was ready to join their fight, but Ito started charging towards the rabbits as soon as the rabbits noticed us.

“HAAA!” With a single swing of its swords, Ito killed one of the rabbits that jumped towards him. I didn't pay attention at this party during the first exams but he seems to know how to use a sword. On the other hand, Tamiko used some kind of magic by using her wand. 

“Wind Cutter!” She said as blades made out of air started cutting down the other rabbit. I wanted to see a bit more of what they did when they worked as a team, but I didn't want to leave Aya behind. 

[ Aya, get the last one. That should be easy for you. ] I telepathically said to Aya in order to make her concentrate.

[ Yes! ] She replied to me as she charged towards the last rabbit. Her body was much faster than before and much easier to move around. So these are the buff effects from Ryoko…? 

Aya didn’t need my help at all as she instantly killed that monster. 

“Great job everyone.” Ito said to everyone with a proud look on his face. This wasn't as hard as the guild claimed. Maybe we were just lucky to encounter rabbits this week. Even if Aya was on her own, she could easily take them on without my help.

“I’m sorry but…” Tamiko went towards the supervisor, trying to ask him something. 

“What is it?” The supervisor looked at her with his dead eyes, who seemed to be tired of just being with us. 

“How many materials should we get in order to pass this exam?” Even Tamiko, just from being around that guy, looked really uncomfortable.

“...Oh right, I forgot to tell you...” Just from his voice, he sounded dead as if he didn't want to be a supervisor at all.

“You need at least 10 materials if you want to pass this…” The supervisor explained to us while Ito was gathering the horns from the rabbit’s heads. This exam felt too good to be true for all of us. But even our luck disappeared the moment I heard some sounds coming towards us.

“Everyone get into position!” Ito said in a loud voice as he pulled out his sword.

What came in front of us was a pitch-black panther with red eyes.
