What I have been neglecting this whole time, was using the system that was given to me. At first, I wasn't that interested in it since I couldn't forget the fact that I was a ghost. The other thing which changed my life was Aya. She was a pure hearted girl who has been trying her best to get stronger. And now, thanks to her, I can manage to freely get out of that abandoned house and do lots of stuff. I still didn't want to show myself in front of other people since I didn't want to put myself in danger. There are a lot of different monsters in this world so I thought that was in the same category as them. Aya knew of ghosts, and she was scared the moment she saw me, so I figured that there were other ghosts like me. I've never seen another ghost so I wasn't sure what to think of them.
After we got out of the city, we started going a bit deeper in the forest where no one could see us.
"Hiroki, is it really okay for us to be here? We even lied to the guard…" Aya worriedly looked at me as she asked that question.
Since we needed a good reason to get out of the city, I convinced the guard that we were going to gather some herbs for the guild, using Aya's body. I can understand Aya feeling guilty for lying, but she also needs to understand that not everyone is kind. Just from her backstory, I got the gist of what kind of people there are in this world.
"It's not like we're going to do anything bad. If you were going to tell him the truth, he wouldn't have let you pass the gate." Another thing that I learned is that everywhere you go, some kind of identity card is needed in order to enter a city. But in Aya's case, they probably don't suspect her being a spy or anything else. I'm not sure if the security system in this world is just poor or the gate guards don't care.
"But still…" Aya was really worried about that, making her think about her decisions.
"Don't worry! If we want to pass the adventurer's exam, we need to train first!" I tried hyping her up so she would forget about the stressful stuff that has been happening.
"Y-yes! I will train with Hiroki!" I patted her head a bit then I checked the surroundings.
"Hehe…" She giggled as she touched her cheeks in embarrassment. But I'm glad that she isn't getting stressed over the things that have been happening.
Before grinding exp from monsters, I wanted to check my own skills one last time.
Compared to the first time I woke up in this world, I have a lot more skills that could help me deal damages to the monsters. A new useful item I got is the skill called ‘Stealth’.
Since I’m trying to stay hidden all the time, I’ve also been relying on this skill most of the time. I’m not sure when a powerful human may come across, that's why staying hidden may be a better option than risking my ghost's ‘life’.
When I first read the effects of this skill, I looked at my own hands for a second… Then back at the skill, then I stared at my hands, then back at my own skill once again.
I really am a ghost….
While I thought I would get an opportunity to get my own human body, the system of this world completely changed my mind. That's when I understood that I wasn’t going back to my human form anymore. But at least, I have Aya by my side. But I have to be careful while using this skill, I don’t want to get Aya caught on it.
While I found this kind of skill really useless at first, I managed to adapt it while being inside Aya. She has the same skill, so we both react at the same time while being in sync with it.
Now, this was one of my favorite skills so far. Ever since I was young, It was my dream to control objects using only my mind. No matter what someone may say to me, I would always choose this kind of skill as my primary skill. But differently from what I had thought, controlling it was much harder. I was barely able to move a small book when I tried it. And not only that, but it was really tiring from the rest of the skills. That may have been the first time I have felt like that. It was as if I was drained from all of my powers.
I have used these skills other times as well, and I found them really useful when trying to slow down a monster. This also consumes my mental energy but for now, it's worth using it.
And now… saving the best for the last. This may not be that special of a skill but it's an important part of me. When I first got this skill, I was surprised to learn that ‘Hollow voice’, ‘Hearing’, and ‘dagger experience’ were consumed in order to receive this kind of skill. But even after ‘Hearing’ and 'Hollow Voice’ were gone, I still was able to hear and talk perfectly fine. That's when I realised that it was all thanks to this skill. While it doesn’t give me the sense of touch in the ghost form, I can hear, talk, listen, smell and look around perfectly fine.
“Hiroki?” Aya called out to me when I was sorting out all of my skills.
“Let’s go.” I said to her with a smile on my face.
“Yes!”
We kept looking around the forest, hoping we would find a suitable monster that would help us grind as much exp as possible. In this world, there can be a lot of different monsters which shouldn't be underestimated. Aya mentioned that all of the monsters have been created by Demons in this world. I haven't seen what a demon looks like yet but from what I have heard, they seem to be dangerous beings.
Not too much time passed before our first opponent showed up in front of us. From the appearance, it looked like a small monkey with a weird-looking face. At first, it didn't look like it had any ill intent but that doesn't mean we had to let our guard down.
“When I give you the signal, attack that thing.” I told Aya as we were trying to make as few movements as possible in order not to startle the Barbscream. Aya nodded in agreement as she was waiting for my signal. I immediately moved my hand towards that monster and used one of my skills in order to prevent it from moving.
<Paralyse>
“Now!” Startled by my sudden skill, the monkey-like monster was standing still with a stiff look on his face. If I had to describe the expression on that monkey, then it would be as if it was about to explode from my skill.
“Yes!” After she got my signal to attack, she charged towards the Barbscream and stabbed it right at the center of its chest.
“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!!” But right before it died, it let out a screech-like noise that could burst someone’s ears out. Even Aya pulled back from the sudden noise that this monkey let out.
“Aya, are you okay?” I asked her to see if she could hear me from that sudden loud screech.
“Y-yeah, I’m fine b-but what was that?” Aya was trying to keep calm from the way that monkey reacted. One good thing that Aya was getting better, was her way of reacting to danger. Compared to the first time she saw a goblin, she could withstand not only killing a monster but also not fainting from the heavy pressure.
“I think it was it’s dying call or something like that. I'm not sure but be on your guard, I feel like this won’t be that easy.” A gulping sound was heard from Aya as I said to her. She was gripping her dagger really tight as we both were waiting for any sudden attack. Suddenly we heard rustling noises coming from the branches of the trees.
“Ga Guu”
“GU, Gu KEE!”
“GU GU!”
More Barbscreams were surrounding us from every direction, preventing us from getting away that easily. They were giving an intimidating look at us as if they were judging whether to attack or not. I slowly went towards Aya without making any sudden movements.
“H-Hiroki…” She could understand as well that our situation wasn’t that good. But that didn’t mean we had to give up on this. While they won't be able to attack me, Aya on the other hand won't have any other chance.
“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!!”
“GUUUUU EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!!”
“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!!”
All of the monkeys let out screeching sounds just like the one we killed earlier. We already knew that this wasn't a good sign, that's why we both prepared for anything that may happen. As they continued screeching, they started throwing sharp pointy stuff at us. At first, it looked like dirt but after looking closely at Barbscreams, I noticed them grabbing their own waste and throwing it at us after shaping it in a sharp way.
“Aya, don’t let those things touch you no matter what!!” While normal poop wasn't supposed to kill anyone by just throwing it, these guys could harden their own shit and throw it like a weapon. It didn’t take long before I picked up the terrible smell which their own waste was releasing. At that point, I really missed not having the sense of smell, but right now it wasn't the right moment to complain about it. Luckily, most of the attacks were directed at me, making it easier for Aya to dodge those things, but it still was hard for her, not to mention she was going to run out of stamina.
“Hiroki!!!” She called out to me in fear as she was trying to not get hit by their dangerous shit.

(Author’s note: Poop can be dangerous, be careful how you use it!)
“Hold on for a bit longer!” Suddenly I noticed one of the Barbscream’s coming down from the tree. That monkey looked really confused and surprised that his waste wasn't reaching me at all. That's when I charged towards it and immediately possessed it without a second thought. After I confirmed the way I walked using this body, I went towards Aya and let her know about me possessing her.
“Is that you H-Hiroki?” I nodded when Aya asked that question. I felt kind of weird walking like this and my hands smelled really bad to the point where it was unbearable. While I could feel this monster resisting my possession, I tried blocking any attack that Aya couldn’t dodge. I could feel their pointy shit, scraping these hands or even cutting off the fur away from the force and sharpness they contained. I was getting pissed off from all of the things they were throwing at us which made me want to give them a taste of their own shit. I tried crouching just like they did and tried pooping on this filthy hand. Aya was distracted which made it a little better for me to release myself like that. In no time, I felt a warm thing filling the hand of this monster which felt really disgusting to touch. My nose picked up an even filthier smell which almost made me throw up. But anyway, I had no time to lose, that’s why I squeezed that Barbscream’s waste and formed it into a pointy shape. After I did so, I could feel that waste becoming much harder and colder within a few seconds.
Without wasting any more time, I aimed at one of the monkeys and threw that shit as hard as I could.
“GUUU?!!!” That monster had a confused face before it hit its face, making that monster fall to the ground. That Barbscream was still alive after that, but its face was full of scars and shit. I felt a little satisfied knowing how that monkey felt after receiving its own shit.
Looking at this as a great opportunity, Aya charged at that monkey, and without a hesitation she used her full power to attack that fallen monster.
“H-Haa!” While that monkey underestimated Aya a lot, he took her attack head on with smik on its face. Is that Barbscream saying that a little girl's hit won't hurt him at all?! I still couldn’t understand weather that monster was actually strong or really dumb.
<Double Swing>
But thanks to his dumb decisions, Aya managed to cut off both of its legs. That's when that monkey realised its situation, and it started to escape by crawling.
<Certain Hit!>
But this time, there was no escape from Aya’s next attack. All of the other Barbscreams were looking at Aya and me with a confused face on why we were teaming up. I could tell that these monsters fought in groups and they found it weird that their own kind would suddenly turn on them.
While all of the monsters around us were trying to understand what was going on, I took this as an opportunity to climb up the trees and hit them with all of my strength. I could feel it's heads cracking as I was punching it's teeth, breaking them, until ripping it's jaw appart. I had no time to think how gross that was, that's why I continued hitting it until it stopped moving.
I had no time to look at my own status, that's why I started attacking other Barbscreams as well. At that point, all of the other monsters had their attention on me with a rage looking expression on their face. It didn't take long before all of them jumped at me. Of course, I couldn't take them all at once, that's why I tried hitting them off, and some of them which I paralysed using my skill. After that, Aya finished them off without having too much trouble. But for me, things were becoming much harder. Since I was the main target of all of the Barbscreams, they started using their ridiculous strength to smash the head of this monster I was possessing. In their mind I must have looked like a traitor to the tribe. I could feel every bone of this body slowly crushing into pieces. At some point I no longer could feel any pain from this body, that's why I possessed another Barbscream and started attacking and paralysing other monsters. I continued this kind of thing until the last remaining three Barbscreams ran away from here. Since I had no more use of this body I was possessing, I killed it by jumping off the tree while facing down. The pain I felt... was instant and really painful.
"Hiroki, are you okay?" Even though I'm just a ghost, she still asked me if I was okay.
"I'm fine, I can't feel pain in this form after all." Aya looked really tired from all of the Barbscreams she had killed. Even though I felt a little bad about forcing her to grind exp, I still wanted to continue for as long as we could. After all, we had time until the morning arrived.
"Can you still continue?" In order to check her condition, I asked her while making sure she wasn't injured.
"Y-yeah, I can still continue! P-please don't worry about me." No matter what she says, I still worry about her. I'm glad that she has the determination to continue this, and the courage to keep moving forward.
"Okay, but just to make sure, eat another golden apple." While we could have sold them, I decided that it would be better for Aya to consume those golden apples.
"Y-yes!!" I never got the chance to try the golden apple, but Aya seemed really excited to eat them. Her face was blushing as she took a big bite out of the juicy golden apple. While I can't feel tired, this view in front of me calmed my spiritual heart.
.
..
After she finished eating her golden apple, we continued going a little deeper into the forest. While we were glad that we didn't have to smell the terrible smell of their shit, the aura around the forest was becoming much denser. If I had to guess why, then it would be because of powerful monsters living around here.
"It's coming." I warned Aya before going towards the monster I saw charging to us. While its size was unusually big, it was definitely a cockroach. To be honest, I hated those bugs but I wasn't scared of them. They were just annoying back at my world, but here, I'm sure they won't crawl away from us.
Like our usual plan, I possessed that cockroach and stopped it from moving. I couldn't see but I could sense where all of the objects around me were. This monster’s plan was to eat Aya, but that was its biggest mistake.
Aya was stiffly looking at the cockroach but after a deep breath she charged towards the Titanroach. I prevented this monster from moving but I could feel a strong urge from the bug, wanting to take back control. In order to give more damage to this monster, I also used my skill 'Paralyse'. But that attack didn't do much to it.
<Double swing!>
"I-it didn't work!" Even Aya's attack didn't do much no matter how much she tried. While I was possessing this thing, I could barely feel Aya's attack, that's how strong this bug was.
Before it could take back control of its own body, I wanted to slow it down a bit more in order to buy us time. That's when I came with the idea to stop this massive bug from moving for some time. Noticing that the monster was moving, Aya took some steps back. My plan was to flip this monster upside down. Not only this will buy us time, but also it will show us its soft side of its body. I wasn't certain about this, but it was the only thing that came to mind.
"Aya try cutting its joints" I said to Aya after flipping this monster upside down and getting out of its body.
"O-okay!" While Aya was trying to damage its long black legs, I started looking around for a certain monster that may be wandering around. It didn't matter what kind of monster it was for as long as it was strong. The first thing that caught my eyes was an unusually big gorilla with thick brown fur on its body.
"I'll borrow your body for a bit!" I said to it before possessing that gorilla. Its status was almost the same as that cockroach which made things a bit easier but still, I could feel an intense anger coming from the inside of this gorilla. It was trying to take control back of its body with all it could. But before I would allow it, I started running back from where I came from. The moment Aya saw the gorilla, she took a lot of steps back while holding her dagger in fear.
"Hyyaa!" I didn't mean to scare her, but I had no time to waste. It was a matter of time before this gorilla took control back of its body.
By using the whole weight of its body, I jumped as high as I could and landed on top of this cockroach.
"KEEEEKKEEEEE!!!!" The Titanroach reacted from the sudden crack it received on the surface of its body. Since it wasn't enough to kill it, I used this gorilla's massive fist to smash the cockroach. Sounds of the gorilla's fists hitting the cockroach almost felt as if I was playing drums. But finally, after continuous hits, I managed to crack through its hard shell until I destroyed its insides.
But right now, there was another problem coming right up. The gorilla was about to take control back of its body. And I'm sure it won't be understanding about our situation. But after I looked at one of the cracked legs of this cockroach, I came up with another idea. I broke one of its legs and slid it on this gorilla' mouth. I could feel a painful thing on this throat until I used this body's weight to slide it through.
"Agh, that was painful and disgusting…" I said after getting out of that body. When I turned around, that cockroach's leg had managed to pierce through the insides of that gorilla's throat.
"H-hiroki!!" Aya immediately ran towards me and hugged me really tight as if she didn't want me to go anywhere.
"It's okay, I'm here." I gently patted her head like usual in order to calm her down.
"I'm sorry I freaked out. I thought you were gone…" I was looking for another monster... but to her it must have looked like I abandoned her.
"I may be weak right now but... I will get stronger so I can protect you!" With tears in her eyes she looked at me with a determined look on her face.
"Yeah, let's get stronger together." I responded to her with a smile on my face. She also smiled back as she leaned her head on my chest.
.
We continued hunting monsters nonstop until we saw the sun rising in the sky. Since I didn't want to tire Aya's mind from not sleeping enough, we decided to head back to the guild.
But while I was possessing Aya, something popped up in front of me.
It took some minutes in order to process what was happening right now. A new evolution? Could this be a new beginning for me in a different form?
