As we were on our way home, I continued thinking about this new evolution. There were a lot of thoughts about this thing. But this is a different world and I'm sure, accepting my new form will improve my status. And since I am a ghost, there was nothing to lose.

I was sucked inside Aya's body as my surroundings were becoming darker. I felt exhausted and sleepy at the same time.

[ Aya… I'm going to sleep… for… a bit… ] I telepathically informed her about my condition as I was losing consciousness.

"Hiroki?" Even though Aya was a bit confused about this, she still decided not to bother me with any questions. She's such a kind girl… Being with her…I feel… much… sa...fer…

Aya continued walking back to the city while avoiding dangerous monsters and defeating weak ones. Since Hiroki was asleep, she was really nervous about being on her own, but she tried her best on going forward.

"Hiroki… I will become an adventurer!" Another goal that Aya had, was about becoming an adventurer before Hiroki woke up. She wanted to impress him by achieving this goal on her own. That was another thing that gave her more courage when facing random monsters that would try to kill her. She had complete control of using all of her new skills without any problems.

After managing to pass through the gate, she went straight towards the guild. Her goals were already set, and there was nothing that would change her mind.

The guild was as busy as usual while preparing many quests for adventurers.

"Oh, Aya! You're just in time." The same receptionist lady that prepared Aya's retake tests approached the moment she saw her.

"Y-yes, I won't fail this time!" Even though Aya should have passed, she still didn't want to cause any trouble to anyone. Aya's eyes were a little tired from training the whole night, but still she had the stamina to stay awake thanks to the golden apples she had eaten.

"I hope you won't fail as well. I specifically chose your supervisor for today, so you don't need to worry about anything." The receptionist winked at Aya with a smile on her face, confirming that everything would be okay for her.

“T-thank you very much!” After waiting for around 10 minutes, the supervisor that was going to observe Aya in her last exam, finally arrived.

“Are you Aya?” In front of Aya was a girl with long silky red hair. She had the looks of a warrior and the gentle face of a beauty. Even though she was wearing armor, the shape of her body was slightly visible. A round chest that looked really soft to touch. And her short skirt that almost exposed her panties. But her aura scared most of the adventurers that looked at her with ill intentions. Even though she had slender arms, she was able to carry a huge sword on her back with ease.

“Y-yes, that's me!” Realising that was the supervisor for her last exam, Aya responded back to that girl.

“Let's not waste anymore time then.” She showed no emotions when responding back to Aya.

Just like last time, Aya and the supervisor went outside of the city somewhere near the forest. They continued walking deeper into the forest for some time until they encountered a suitable monster for Aya. Aya in the meantime was taking glances at the red haired girl without saying anything.

“Is something wrong?” She responded back to Aya without looking at her. Aya was caught off guard, making her feel a bit nervous.

“N-no.” She looked away a bit flustered, after getting caught looking. But after some time, they finally arrived at their destination.

“We’re here... Your first job is to kill at least five of these things.” The supervisor said after they arrived somewhere narrow in the woods. Running here would be much harder since plants, trees, and bushes were everywhere, making it difficult for anyone to move around. Aya tried looking around in order to see what her challenge would be.

Suddenly, from every direction could be seen countless red eyes that were staring at Aya.

“Usually the guild forbids any newbies from approaching these little guys but since you’re getting special treatment from them, I’ll make things a little interesting for you.” She stepped aside after saying that to Aya.

“Also don’t forget. These guys are fast.” She thrust her massive sword on the ground as she explained that.

Aya held herself back from being distracted from anything possible. This might be her first time fighting monsters on her own. That's why she tried concentrating on any sudden attacks. She pulled out her dagger as those little monsters started jumping around at a high speed. Those little monsters used the small space around them in order to move around at a high speed.

While they may be as small as a squirrel, theri nails were insanely sharp. Aya tried slashing one of them, but her hand ended up being grazed from their sharp nails. Just from that, it was enough to cut the surface of her hand. But Aya didn’t panic from her injury, she continued concentrating so she wouldn't lose sight of her targets.

[ I won’t let Hiroki down! ] Aya thought as she used her next attacks.

< Certain Hit > <Double swing>

Two of the little monsters were immediately killed by Aya with ease. At that moment, the supervisor witnessed the face of a fighter who wanted to grow stronger for the sake of her loved ones. The red haired girl was slightly surprised by that as she continued looking at her.

One of the little things tried attacking Aya from behind, but she managed to slash them in half before they could reach her. While Aya wasn't fast enough to move her body, she used their speed to bring them to their own death. That's how Aya managed to slash more than seven monsters. Even though she had completed her task, those little things didn't stop. More of them were actually surrounding Aya, putting her in a tight spot. Even if she used her skills, she wouldn't be able to handle all of them.

The supervisor slightly smiled as she relaxed her arms. “You seem more capable than you look.” She said as she let out her aura, scaring away all of the monsters around there.

“Huh…?” Aya looked on her side, finding one of the monsters right in the supervisor's hands which was squished to death by her bare strength. After all of the monsters were gone, the supervisor pulled out a piece of cloth and wrapped it around Aya’s hand. She was trying to be as gentle as possible while Aya was looking at the calm looking face of the red haired girl. Now that their faces were closer to each other, Aya could see her facial features.

[ She’s pretty… ] Aya thought as she continued looking at her.

“This should be enough for now. When you get back home, make sure to drink some potions.” The supervisor said after wrapping the cloth around Aya’s hand.

“U-um…” Aya stuttered as she was trying to ask something to her. Aya’s hand was slightly trembling after feeling the burning pain from her injury.

“What is it?” She responded back to Aya as she was looking straight into her eyes. Aya couldn't look back at her, subconsciously averting her eyes away from the cool beauty.

“D-did I pass, this time?” There were a few seconds of silence when Aya asked that question. It was clear that Aya was anxious to know whether she passed or not.

“Yes, you did.” The supervisor looked at Aya before giving her results to her. She wondered why Aya would ask that kind of question when it was obvious she completed her task. But still, Aya was more than happy to hear such news from the supervisor.

After putting all of the killed monsters in a bag, they went back to the guild to confirm the success of completing the last exam. The receptionist looked like she had been waiting for Aya’s return the whole time. And the moment she saw Aya entering the guild, she rushed towards her, wanting to know the answers.

“Aya! How did it go?! Are you okay?!" She worriedly asked Aya as she was looking at her injury.

"Yes, I passed the exam!" Aya happily replied to the receptionist with a smile on her face. Both of them were excited and happy about this while Aya's supervisor was standing nearby with her usual calm look.

"Congratulations Aya! I'm so happy for you!" The receptionist gently grabbed Aya's hands as she congratulated her about passing the guild’s exams.

"You too Theresa… thank you for helping her..." She looked at the red haired girl as she thanked her.

"I didn't do much." Theresa left after giving the bag of monsters to the receptionist.

"S-so when can I start?" Aya asked the receptionist as she was looking at her.

"You can start tomorrow. You must be tired right now. Go take a rest and come tomorrow morning to grab your adventure's card." Since Aya didn't want to force herself too much, she decided to listen to the receptionist and go back to the abandoned house to rest.

Even though the golden apples were keeping Aya full of energy, her eyes were sleepy from staying awake the whole night while training with Hiroki. She still wasn't sure when he was going to wake up, that's what made her feel a little lonely. But another thing that made her anxious was the fact that she couldn't feel Hiroki at all. It was as if his existence was completely erased. She also couldn't wait to tell Hiroki the good news about passing the adventurers guild.

.

From a certain distance far away from Aya, could be seen someone who was secretly following her. Aya hadn't noticed but he was being careful and cautious with each step he took. From the gear he was wearing, he looked like an adventurer with great experience.

After Aya arrived at the abandoned house, she went straight to the second floor where she first met Hiroki.

"Huh…?" During the way there she felt someone following her, that's why she ran as fast as she could. Once she entered the same room she met Hiroki, she let out a long breath, relieving herself from all the stress she had built up the whole day and night. For now, she wanted to relax and sleep for some time. But she still had the feeling that someone was right behind her...

"You shouldn't have come back to the guild." Those were the last words she heard before fainting from a hit at the back of her head. The same guy who has been following her the whole time, managed to enter inside the house without Aya realising it. He put Aya inside a big leather bag and went back out. He was being careful so no one would be suspicious of him. But from his gear, people thought of his back as some kind of monster he had hunted. Not that anyone would dare to randomly ask an adventurer.

The kidnapper went to a fancy mansion, surrounded by gates and guards all over the place.

"Stop right there!" One of the guards threatened him as they pulled out their swords.

"Calm down, it's me." He pulled down his scarf-like mask from his face, revealing his identity to the guards. He was the same gloomy guy that failed Aya's exam. The guards immediately recognized his dead like face which contained no emotions. That's why they opened the gate without saying anything else to that kidnapper.

Theresa's POV

————————————————

.

Recently, I was asked by Merisa to supervise one of the newbies that wanted to join the adventurers guild. Usually, I wouldn't have accepted since I don't like dealing with simple tasks while I could have looked out for suspicious activities instead. But Merisa really wanted me to accept since she couldn't trust anyone else but me for this job. She also mentioned something about a supervisor who unfairly failed a newbie. That's what actually convinced me to check out whether this was true or not.

When I first saw this newbie, I thought that she was going to fail, and the supervisor was right for its decision. But I still decided to give that girl a chance, that's why I gave her a challenge harder than the rest of the new adventures.

"Is something wrong?" She was staring at me with admiration and an excited look on her face. But somehow…

Her eyes were really similar to mine when I first started my training. I was raised to become a slave and I never knew my parents. But that didn't bother me since I barely knew anything about the world. That's why I escaped from them when I finally got the chance.

Day after day, I continued wandering around the city until I saw some people wearing shiny silver armour with a proud look on their face. Not feared by any enemies or monsters, they protected the city even if their lives were at risk.

I admired their strength and bravery. That's when I realised that I wanted to become just like them. That's also why I started training with a wooden sword I had found in the trash. I continued doing this all day, until I got the courage to actually start putting my efforts to use. While I was walking around, I saw three thugs surrounding an old man with ripped clothes and a wooden leg. He didn't seem to be fighting back, that's why I decided to beat them down.

"Stop right there! It's not right to bully an old man!" My foolish young self said to them without a care. I was still young at that time, and I never knew what a life threatening situation meant.

"Huh?! The fuck did this little bug come from?!"

I was proudly pointing my wooden sword at them as I tried scaring them away.

"Get out of here you little shit before I beat the shit out of you!" The other thug threatened me as he was grabbing the old man from his shirt. Since none of them took me seriously, I decided to charge and tried hitting them on their waist. But they easily dodged my attacks and then attacked me back. The first one tried punching me as hard as he could with his bare fist, but I managed to block it with my wooden sword, allowing me to hit him right between his legs.

"Hoo?" The old man's eyes widened as he was looking at me.

"Aaagh! You little shit! I will fucking kill you!!" The other thugs also tried attacking me with a pissed look on their faces. Both of them had their knives out and they were about to kill me. I froze in fear as I was looking at their uncleaned, bloody knife. I knew that it would be my end, but the old man instantly moved at a high speed and knocked both of these thugs out.

"Huh!?? What happened to you guys?!?" The last thug looked at his teammates in shock of what just happened to them.

"I just put them to sleep." The old man appeared right behind him with a calm look on his face. I was a little confused as well from what I was looking at. And before the thug could see who had done this to his friends, the old man knocked him out as well.

"You have quite the courage for a little girl. May I know your name, little girl?" The way he was speaking, he sounded really gentle. But I was wary of him, that's why I pointed my sword at him. My fingers hurt a lot and I could feel my hands trembling, and I didn't have much energy since I hadn't eaten in days.

"No need to be wary of me... From the looks, you must be living in the streets, right? I'm sure you could use a meal right now." His deep and quiet voice was really calming to my ears. I wanted to protect myself at all costs, but at that point, my body couldn't handle it anymore, causing me to faint from all of the training and days without eating.

When I woke up, I found myself inside a really warm and big room. This place was unfamiliar to me and I wasn't sure whether I was dreaming or not. When I started wandering around the house, I noticed a lot of dust and sometimes, broken things laying around.

"You're finally awake. Why don't you eat something?" When I went to the first floor, I saw the same old man preparing the table for breakfast. The smell was unresistable and my stomach was already complaining for days.

"...Why are you helping me?" I asked him after I finished eating all of the food he had given to me.

"You were really brave to fight three different criminals. Where did you learn to use a sword?" He sat across the table I was eating while drinking some kind of alcohol.

"I trained... by myself." The old man slightly smiled from my response.

"I see… What's your name?"

"I don't have a name, but when I was needed... They called me 'meathole' or simply 'you'." His eyes widened in anger as I explained to him. When I was a slave, I was made to carry all of the heavy weights all the time, and watch the grown ups violate other slaves.

"From now on your name will be Theresa." And from that day on, my training with that old man started. Even though it was harsh training, I felt myself growing stronger and bigger.

I found it weird that he accepted me into his mansion, giving delicious food, and a warm place to sleep. If I had to describe how he looked to me... it would be like my master and… my own grandfather…

...

Years passed and I was gifted a new sword from my master. I was really happy to receive this kind of gift from him even though he didn't have to.

"Thank you master!" But the day I was planning on becoming an adventurer, I wanted him to see me off one last time. That's why I went into his room for the first time in my life. He never let me clean his room and that was the only chance of seeing it before departing. But no matter how many times I knocked, he didn't respond.

"Master, are you there?" I asked as I was opening the door. But what I saw inside was a messy place with barely any lights. That's why I tried opening the curtains in order to look around. But what I saw in this room shocked me. The walls were filled with drawings of many people who looked like criminals. After looking around, I also found a picture of him and a girl around her twenties. At the bottom of the picture was the name 'Theresa'...

In another paper, I also found some notes he had written. It had names and locations…

I had a bad feeling about this, that's why I tried going to the location on the notes. It was a shady place where people didn't bother to visit. I tried being careful as I was peeking inside the building of the written location.

"~This isn't a place to hang around, old man!."

"Why don't you leave all of your money and go away before I change my mind and kill you?" These guys threatened him as they were playing around with barely naked women on their side.

"So you don't even remember me? Didn't you kidnap my daughter and raped her?! Did you already forget about her as well?" I immediately recognized my master's angry voice as he had his sword pointed at them.

"I've had my fun with a lot of them, so I don't know who your daughter is." The criminal grinned as he was gropping the woman on his side.

"You bastard… you don't even remember Theresa, even after what you did?!!" My master was slowly approaching them with an angry expression, but he tried keeping his calm.

"Theresa? That was your daughter?! Hahahahhahaha, I have to say, she was one of the best! She wouldn't break no matter what I did to her. Even after giving birth, I just sold her child away. You should have seen her expression! It was priceless~" But before he could finish, my master cut off his head in an instant. That's what also caused all of the other criminals to surround and attack master at the same time.

"You old fart! How dare you!!" My master tried keeping his distance as he was dodging their attacks, and when he got the chance, he killed most of them. That was until one of the criminals tried to get him by surprise from his behind.

"Master! Behind you!!" I rushed towards my master as I was trying to stop that criminal.

"Huh? Theresa…?" He looked at me with a shocked look on his face, leaving himself full of openings.

"Uggh!!" But I wasn't fast enough, that criminal managed to slide through a sword on his chest. I immediately killed him and went by my master's side.

"M-master!" I looked at my master as I was trying to find a way to heal him.

"It's okay Theresa… I wanted this to happen…

Everyone important to me is already dead, and I finally got my revenge..."

"No! I'm still here with you master! Please don't say such things!" Master's face was really pale, and now that I was looking closer at him, he had eyebags from not sleeping for days.

"Theresa, *cough*...you remind me so much of my daughter… the way you fight and your proud look. It's just like hers… I've taught you everything I know… and I will be at peace knowing that at least you’ll protect yourself…"

"Master…" I could feel something warm sliding down my cheeks as I was looking at my master. I wasn't sure what was happening to me but I didn't like it.

"There’s no need to cry… I will be watching you from the afterlife… so keep looking proud, don’t let anyone look down on you." I couldn't help but rest my head against my master's hand. It was hard yet warm at the same time.

"Theresa, my brave daughter…" Those were his last words before he closed his eyes. My chest was burning with anger, wanting to let it out. But my master's words came through my mind, helping me keep my calm.

Near the corner of the room, I saw one of the criminals that was trying to hide.

"Where is your leader!?" I cut off his legs so he wouldn't get away.

"Aaaghh!! M-my legs!!! My legs!!!" He screamed in pain. But I didn't care about his condition.

"Answer my question." I coldly looked at him without a care.

"Eeeek! I-It's the lord!"

"Which lord?" But before he could answer, he died from losing too much blood. Since then, I never managed to find out who led these groups of criminals. No matter where I looked, I couldn't even find a single hint about them. That was until I saw someone suspicious that kept staring at Aya. He was the same man who falsely failed her. Since I didn't know what his plans were, I decided to watch over Aya from a distance. And I was right to trust my instinct…

That guy who pretended to be a supervisor and an adventurer, was following Aya on her way home. I already knew what I had to do, that's why I continued following them without revealing my presence.

* * *

When Aya finally woke up she found herself inside a massive room with a weird smell around. She wasn't sure where she was, but her clothes were completely different from what she was wearing before.

"Oh, you're awake?" As confused as she was, she noticed a familiar voice coming near the door.

That person was the same middle aged man who had been looking for Aya after killing her parents.

...The lord...
