“I am coming with you! There’s no telling when you show your true intentions!” She said to me.
Actually, her decision might be the best for both of us. While she can look over Aya, I can keep in check if she announces me as a dangerous threat to the guild.
“You can do as you like and I won’t force you to do anything. In fact, I would find this better since Aya doesn't have a party.” She looked at me with those doubting eyes, thinking what my actual goal was here.
“N-no, I don't want to burden Theresa with someone like me!” Aya reacted the moment I suggested that to her..
“I don’t see you as a burden at all.
Forming a party with you would be the best option for both of us. We still don’t know when he’ll remove his fake mask he’s trying to hide.” Hearing Theresa say such words were a little hurtful but I can’t blame her for being suspicious of me. I am a ghost after all…
After that, we decided to head back to the city then ask the guild whether Aya would receive the reward or not. But there was another problem…
"You're not going to possess Aya!" Theresa told me as we were getting close to the gate of the city.
"Eh? But wouldn't they find it weird? I don't have any Identification cards and my hair is different from a normal human" I could pretend to pick up stuff with Levitation, but other than that.... if someone tries to touch me then my cover would get blown.
"You won't need one. I will vouch for you until you get your own identification cards.. And I don't care what you look like for as long as you won't cause any trouble." No matter what I say to her, she doesn't listen to me.
Not only is she doing this to protect Aya, but also as a plan to reveal my existence to the guild. That way, she can keep me restrained from doing unnecessary or stuff hidden in the dark. I wanted to keep myself hidden a little longer, but it seems like it won't be possible anymore.
She really got me in this one…
When we reached the gate, the guard immediately recognized Theresa and opened the way for us, but the moment he noticed me, he asked. “Who is that person?”
Theresa looked at me with a calm look while Aya with a bit of worry of what our answer was going to be.
“He’s a merchant we rescued from some bandits. Unfortunately, all of his belongings together with his identification card were stolen.” Theresa immediately came up with such a lie without being nervous at all.
“Is that so?” The guard looked at me for a moment before deciding whether he was going to let me in or not.
“Make sure to reapply for an identification card within 10 days or you’ll be arrested.” The guard told me as he opened the way for us.
“I understand, thank you for informing me.” I tried being polite since this guard was looking at me with a weird look on his face.
~
After we passed through the gate, we went straight to the guild since Aya had to get her reward.
"Oh? Theresa, Aya, did you finish the quest?" The receptionist asked us the moment she saw us coming inside the guild.
"Yeah, there were no problems with it. Aya was a really great help to me.” Theresa informed the receptionist about the things we never actually did…
“Oh, no! I actually d-didn’t do much~” And Aya who for a second forgot what our first quest was about… and Teresa's actual intention.
“Really? I’m glad that Aya was of help to you! I’m sure you’d be a perfect match for each other if you two created a party together!” The recespinist happily suggested to them.
“That's what I am intending to do.” Theresa calmly responded to the receptionist’s suggestion.
“Really?! I’m so happy! With this, both you and Aya won’t be doing quests on your own anymore.” The receptionist lady showed tears of joy when she heard Theresa’s response. But then, the receptionist finally noticed me standing in the back.
“By the way, Who is that?” She asked as she weirdly looked at me.
Since I didn’t want to have Theresa explain that fake story again, I decided to introduce myself.
“My name is Hiroki, a wandering merchant that happened to meet these beautiful adventurers. I was on my way to this town, but unfortunately, all of my belongings and identification cards were stolen by bandits. I was lucky enough to barely escape with my life. Thanks to Aya and Theresa, I was safely brought here.” I explained the fake story that Theresa came up with before entering the city. I wouldn’t want any trouble by telling different stories to important people. They would definitely find it weird…
“Is that so? You may want to reapply for your merchant’s license and identification card since it would be a problem if you continue to stay in this city without one.” The receptionist explained to me.
“That was my objective the moment I entered this city.” I smiled as I confirmed to her my plans of getting a merchant’s license. Now that I have revealed myself, I would really love to register myself to the adventurer’s guild. This is one of the things that all boys dream of.
“By the way, can I register myself as an adventurer?” I asked.
“I’m sorry, but unfortunately, our guild and the merchant’s guild don't have a great relationship with each other. Meaning. Our guild master has banned all of the merchants from registering themself in our guild for certain reasons.” Hearing this kind of response made me really sad since I couldn’t become an adventurer. If I’m going to have a merchant card, then I can’t become an adventurer at the same time. I could actually play it off by saying that I want to become an adventurer instead of reapplying for the merchant’s one, but I would definitely be suspicious… This really sucks…
“I understand… Thank you for your information~” This really sucks…
“By the way… do you two know each other?” She asked after she noticed that Aya was holding my arm in a cute way.
“Y-yeah we actu--” I began explaining a fake backstory about how me and Aya met.
“--Both me and Hiroki like each other and we’ve spent most of the time together!” But Aya immediately interrupted me and bluntly said that to the receptionist. Both the receptionist and Theresa looked at us with a little surprised look.
“Haha, is that so? I’m glad for you Aya.” The receptionist smiled at Aya when she heard what was just said. But as she was looking at me with a smile on her face, another staff member of the guild whispered something into her ear.
“I understand... “ The receptionist nodded to that girl before looking back at Aya.
“The information provided to the guild has been confirmed. Can you come with us so you can get the full reward for defeating the bandits?” The receptionist opened the way for Theresa and Aya to walk to the same room where they first met the guild master, but before I could also follow after then, the receptionist lady got in front of me.
“I don’t know what your intentions are, but…” Her voice suddenly got really deep, and her eyes had the look of a killer. “...if you dare do anything to Aya, then I will personally make the whole guild kill you!” This was the first time she had shown that kind of face. Even the other adventurers didn’t dare to look this way when she was acting like that.
“I think you’re misunderstanding something. I have no intentions of hurting Aya at all. Actually, Aya was the one who saved my life so my intentions are pure.” I wryly smiled as I said that to her.
“That's what I hope it’ll continue to be like…” She said before realising that Aya was waiting for me some meters away from here.
.
..
After we entered the same room as the other day, the receptionist entered the room with a big bag of money.
“For defeating the leader of dark X, together with its other bandits, the guild has estimated the total amount of your reward.” The receptionist placed the bag of money on the table, making a sharp ringing noise.
“A total of 1,300 gold Xumi!” Both Theresa and Aya widened their eyes when she told them the amount of money.
“I-is it really o-okay for me to have all of this money?” Aya was trembling a little as she was hesitating to touch the bag full of money.
“It is your right to have them. Since another adventurer together with a merchant you rescued, have confirmed us that you were the one who achieved all of this. It is no surprise that you’ll be rewarded with this much.” The receptionist let out a sigh as she sat down in relief.
Aya hesitated a little before grabbing the whole bag of money and looked at it in amazement, then in the next moment she looked at me.
“Hiroki, I w-want you to have this!” She moved the bag of money towards me, waiting for me to get them.
Everyone else glared at me, waiting for my response to Aya.
Especially the receptionist, she was looking with her judging eyes in anger.
“N-no, you earned this money with your own power. I have no right to take any part of your reward.” Aya looked a little sad when I rejected the money she wanted to give to me.
“Right…” Not to mention, that Aya already has a bit of money from the loot we got from the bandits hideout.
“Having this much money would make Aya an easy target for anyone so I’m a bit worried…” The receptionist wondered as she was looking at Aya.
“That’s right, if I’m correct… Aya lives in an abandoned house, right?” Theresa asked as the receptionist looked at her with a worried look on her face.
“Abandoned house?!” The receptionist reacted.
“I-its okay, I’m already used to living there.” Aya smiled as she said that.
“But still, with this much money, you should be able to find a better home. And you should do that as soon as possible. Who knows what might happen to you if you live in such a house.” The receptionist suggested it to Aya.
“N-no... I want to continue living in that house…” Everyone looked at Aya, worried and confused about her.
“That place holds a special place in me and I don’t think I want to find a new house.” Aya looked at me with a little embarrassed face as she said that. The receptionist looked at me once again… I could actually feel the pressure she was giving me the whole time.
“If that's so, then Aya can buy that house and redecorate it however she likes it.” I suggested it to everyone since they were giving me weird looks.
“If that's fine with Aya, then okay. Besides, I’m planning on living with her now that we formed a party together.” Theresa decided on her own about living with Aya.
While I’m glad that Theresa is on Aya’s side, I on the other hand felt a lot more restricted than before.
“If Theresa lives with Aya, then I have nothing else to worry about.”
After we were done in the guild, we were on our way to the abandoned house. But for some reason, people were giving us weird looks.
“Why is everyone looking at us?” I asked after confirming that everyone was looking at us and not someone else near us.
“That's probably because of Aya’s and your hair. That kind of hair color is not common in this place.” Theresa explained to us, while I noticed a part of her hair becoming white without her noticing it.
It won't take long before she realizes that her hair is turning white just like us...
“So we’re going to stand out no matter what we do?” I complained to myself as I let out a sigh.
The moment we arrived at the abandoned house, Theresa said she was going to get a few of her belongings before coming back here.
“If you do something to Aya, I’ll kill you!” Those were the last words she said before leaving.
It didn’t take long before Theresa would come back with a bag full of stuff on her back. Since I knew she wouldn’t waste time, I decided to wait for her at the entrance of the house..
“What are you doing out here?” She asked the moment she saw me.
“I was waiting for you.” I smoothly responded to her question, then I opened the door for her by using levitation.
“I have no need for your welcome…” She entered the house without a care about what I just said.

“This place is as awful as it looks from the outside.” Theresa commented as she was walking around the first floor. A lot of different things could be seen around the floor. Starting from broken objects, badly damaged floor, and lots of dust.
“You may not believe me, but this is where I woke up and found myself as a ghost. At first I couldn’t even leave the room, but that all changed when Aya came here. I would be stuck in this house if it wasn’t for Aya…” I explained to her as I showed her the room where Aya was currently staying.
“Oh, Theresa! You’re back!!” Aya excitely looked at us when Theresa entered the room.
“You sleep on that bed?” Theresa asked.
“Yeah, it was really hard at first, but Hiroki was beside me…” Aya blushed a little. “And It became really comfortable…” Theresa glared at me when Aya said that.
“I couldn’t help it since I couldn't sleep in the first place, not to mention that Aya was all alone. I had to watch over her the whole time.” But she still wasn't convinced.
“Since the other rooms don’t have a bed, I am going to sleep here, with Aya.” Theresa stated as she placed all of her belongings somewhere safe in this room.
But wait, she didn’t even check the other rooms? Did she say that because she didn’t trust me being in the same room as Aya?
Honestly, it hurts a little that she still doesn’t trust me… But I won't give up that easily, I will get Theresa on my side no matter what. She can't possibly stay wary of me the whole time.
“Since it's still early, how about we go to the merchant’s guild? I should probably register myself and get an identification card.” I asked everyone with a smile on my face.
“I’ll do whatever Hiroki asks!” Aya immediately replied to me with excitement. But her statement of how she’ll do anything I ask, is kind of… suspicious. Even Theresa is suspiciously looking at me…
“I’ll also be coming, I can’t take my eyes off you!” Theresa said after placing her sword on her back.
Theresa led the way to the merchant’s guild which was a little far from the adventurer’s building. But before we would enter inside the guild, I came up with an idea that would make us less suspicious.
“Since both of you are going to follow me, and I can’t become an adventurer, how about both of you act as my escort? “ I suggested to them my idea.
“Huh? But why? Hiroki is strong!” Aya wondered while Theresa was thinking something on her mind.
“That’s fine by me.” Theresa agreed on my idea before we decided to enter inside the guild.
Surprisingly, the place inside the guild was much calmer and there were fewer people compared to the adventurer’s guild.
I went towards one of the receptionists who was writing a lot of papers on her desk in a hurry. She looked like she was the same age as me before I died. And if I had to say, she’s actually really pretty and her clothes were well managed and stylish.
“Um… Hello?” I tried calling out to her since she didn’t seem to have noticed me.
“W-wait a moment, p-please! If you are here for another complaint, then we’re already working on it!!” Without even looking at me, she continued writing on those documents even faster than before as she said that to me.
“Actually, I’m here to reapply for my merchant’s license…” She stopped writing the moment I said that to her.
“Heh…? HeeeH?! W-wait, really?!” She got up in a hurry as she asked me in frustration. She leaned towards me with a surprised look as she was waiting for my response. From this kind of position, I could see a bit of her breasts being revealed to me.
“Ahem!!!” Theresa distracted me from staring at her breast, remembering me what I was supposed to do.
"Right, I was trying to reapply for my merchant's license together with my identification cards." This girl showed a bright smile on her face as she pulled out some kind of paper at the top of her desk.
"To reapply for the merchant's license, usually some kind of identification is needed." After she finished explaining all the rules that were in this guild, I also told her the fake story that Theresa came up with.
"If that's the case, then I'm going to need your name, age and the reason for reapplying for this license." She started signing something on the paper before waiting for my answer to her required questions.
"My name is Hiroki, age 18, and the reason I'm reapplying is because of losing my identification cards together with my merchant’s license." She wrote down everything that I said to her. Even after this, I still couldn't understand a single letter of this world's language…
"Okay, I have everything needed for your application. Right now I just need a confirmation and signature from the guild and your card should be ready to go." She left after explaining the steps of getting the card.
"Weren't you staring at her too much?" Theresa looked at me as she asked this question.
"I have no idea what you're talking about…" And me who pretended to not understand what she was saying.
"You already know what I'm talking about. You kept staring at her breasts with ill intentions! You think I'd just allow that?" She clenched her fist as she was looking at me, while on the other hand, Aya was looking at her own breasts.
"What are you saying? So now, I'm simply not allowed to look at someone else? Besides, I'm sure she's used to having hundreds of people stare at her." I let out a sigh as I was trying to say to her.
"No, you aren't allowed to look at another woman's chest!" She told with her glaring eyes.
"Does Hiroki prefer bigger ones?" Aya whispered to herself as she continued looking at her own chest.
Since I didn't want to bring up any sensitive topics between these girls, I decided to not say anything else.
"Thank you for your wait! Your identification card, together with your merchant’s license is ready and registered to our guild." She handed me some kind of paper which seemed to represent the merchant’s license, and some kind of card similar to a modern ID card which had my personal information.
"Thank you for helping me out." Since I didn't want to be weird, I pretended to pick up my ID card and license with my hands, while in reality I'm simply using levitation. I couldn't really touch anything, that's why I tried being careful so my hand wouldn't go through.
"No no, I'm the one who should be thanking you. Our guild has been getting a lot of complaints, making most of the merchants resign their licence…
Honestly, it's been nonstop work for our staff…" She let out a sigh as she leaned her head on the desk.
Also, something must have happened for a lot of merchants to quit their own job. I'm just an amateur merchant, so knowing this information might help me.
"By the way…" She looked at me, who still hasn't left the guild.
"Hm?"
"May I know the reason why those merchants resigned from this guild?" I asked.
“You said you were a travelling merchant, right?”
“Yes.”
“Recently, new aspiring merchants have had problems with their own trading business… I’m not sure I know all of the details, but it seems like their own products weren’t selling, causing them to either resign or work for another trading merchant.
Our guild is also working on helping those new merchants however we can, but as you can see…” I could tell from her voice that she seemed really frustrated about this. But I wonder what caused these new merchants to act like this? Perhaps their business didn’t go as well as they were expecting?
“But since you are a wandering merchant, I’m sure you will have profits in this town. Our guild will provide you with anything in case you need something!” She happily said to me.
I’m not even sure if I really want to trade or sell stuff after saying all of these to me though…
“I understand, thank you for the information.” I said to her as I was preparing myself to leave the guild.
“No no, It's my job to inform you of anything related to the guild.” Even after working in a merchant's guild, this girl seems really polite.
While we were on our way to the abandoned house, I saw different repair and construction shops.
Maybe we should start fixing that house a little bit so other people won’t think that our house is actually possessed by evil ghosts.
“Is it really okay to fix that house? Even though no one lives there, we are basically fixing something that isn't ours.” Theresa said after we bought everything necessary to fix that house. We stored most of the things inside Aya’s dimensional pocket, and the rest we got them into some kind of cart which I’m pretending to push.
“I basically bought the house… kinda…?” Two guards were about to destroy the house while Aya was sleeping inside, so I had no choice but to pay them. But they didn’t write my name nor did they give me any proof of buying the house…
“You sound unsure about that…” And Theresa, who was suspiciously looking at me. I mean, I don’t really want to tell her that I got scammed by them…
At first we all thought that fixing this kind of house would take a lot of days, but thanks to everyone helping around, and me using levitation to move everything around, the house was coming along really great. There were so many rooms and so many floors that I had to replace them with new ones, and the walls which I had to redecorate with a better design compared to the gloomy, creepy ones.
Theresa and Aya also helped clean up the house and take trash outside of the house. It took around three hours before the house was completely empty and all of the corners were clean.
“I never knew that rebuilding a house would be this easy…” Theresa looked around with an impressed tone in her voice.
Theresa is right, if it wasn’t for my skill carrying all of the stuff, it would have taken way longer to actually do all of this.
“That's because Hiroki is amazing!” Aya also came to the entrance of the house after she finished cleaning up her own room. But now that all of this was outside, we should buy new furniture and decorative stuff for this house.
Together with Theresa and Aya, we ordered many different things that we would put inside the house. We went to different shops that had many things we could use for the house, and surprisingly, all of the prices were really cheap. They also said that they would bring our stuff to our house within the day as a thanks for purchasing stuff in their shops.
I felt like the shop owners were a bit too generous for their services and prices to the point I thought that something was up.
“Thank you so much for your patronage! Please, do visit my store again!” The shop owner bowed to me after ordering many products from his store. He felt a bit relieved and thankful to me.
Is the economy of this city that bad? I thought to myself.
“Do you mind If I ask you something?” I asked the shop owner.
“What is it, good sir?” He politely replied to me.
“I’m a new merchant that recently came to this city. Can you tell me why the prices are so low?” The shop owner made a sad look on his face as he was looking at me with a little pity.
“I see… Unfortunately, most of the shop owners have no choice but to lower their prices because most of our products rarely get bought.”
“Is something wrong with the quality of the products?”
“No… every trader I know has interesting and high quality products to offer. But as you can see, we barely make any income...” So even though the prices are really low and the products are at a good quality, people still barely buy them?
Something doesn't add up here….
