“I am a ghost.” My voice was heard in the entire room as I finally told everyone the truth about me not being human.
For a few moments, no one said a word while both Aya and Theresa were surprised to see me reveal the truth about me.
“We know…” Kaito softly smiled as he calmly said that to me.
Even his other party members seemed really calm about this and none of them were freaking out about me.
Well, after the state I went through when I thought that Aya and Theresa were dead… I kind of expected them to act like this.
“You see, I have a similar skill to yours called ‘status inspection’ which allows me to peek into anyone’s personal information without them noticing.” Kaito said as he wryly smiled at me.
So that means, they knew about me being a ghost this entire time!?
Many thoughts began going through my mind as I tried recalling all of my interactions this whole time.
And despite the fact I acted that way to them, I was surprised that they didn't tell the guild about me.
I let out a sigh before looking back at them. “Well, this is kind of relieving… but I never expected that you could see someone’s status as well.”
“Kaito is a special skill holder, so it's not surprising that he can do that.” The priest boasted about her lover.
“Special skill holder?” I asked in a bit of confusion.
I have never heard that kind of term so I wasn't sure what that actually meant. If I had to guess, then that means it has something to do with the fact of having some kind of special skill?
“Special skill holders are people who are capable of inheriting unlimited amounts of skills.” The priest began explaining. “They can have a faster growth in strength and they don't have a limit on how much stronger they can grow. ”
Can inherit unlimited skills and unlimited growth… don't I have similar features like that as well?
I also have a skill called limitless as well!
“How many people are special skill holders?” I asked, wanting to know more about this.
“Not many..” The priest responded. “Kaito is the only one I know that had this kind of skill in the hundreds of years recorded in history.”
Now I understand why Kaito was this strong despite his age.
“It's kind of relieving to hear that, since it would be troublesome if many people could see my status.”
The priest took another look at me after seeing where I was going with this.
“That is indeed true. If the church would find out about an intelligent ghost like you, they would do anything in their power to erase you from existence.” The priest lowered her eyes as she explained how bad my situation would be if my status were to be revealed.
“But don't worry, many people in this world don't have any ways of finding out about your skills and status. The only thing that they can try to find out is through scrolls. Even that way, the only thing they can find out is whether someone is a bandit or not. Not to mention that those scrolls are only available in the church.” Kaito assured me about this.
So that means that people who are capable of peeking into someone’s else are extremely rare?
I was relieved to hear that, but that doesn't mean I had to be less cautious, because no one could really touch me.
…
After I revealed that I was a ghost, we all began discussing the whole plan on how we were going to locate the demons hiding in this town.
We didn't want to rush things as we had traveled our way back to this town on foot.
Since it was already morning, we decided we would begin our plan when the sun would set. And for now, it would be wise if everyone could rest for a bit until the right time comes.
While everyone was sleeping right now, I was waiting somewhere in the hallway as I was looking outside the window, staring at random people wandering around.
The way everyone acted was the same no matter where I looked.
And without even noticing it, it was becoming darker as the last few sun’s rays were slowly fading away in the distance.
“Do you feel tired as a ghost?” Suddenly from behind me I heard Kaito’s voice casually asking me this question.
“...That’s a dumb way to start a converstion.” I let out a sigh before looking back to the view outside the window. “But to answer your question, no. I don’t.”
He came beside me and decided to watch the view outside as well.
“That sounds harsh.”
I looked at him for a moment as he seemed to be enjoying this.
“I wouldn't say that. It feels more weird than unsettling for me.” I responded back to him.
“....”
“Shouldn't you be resting a bit longer? We spent almost two nights awake after we were attacked by wvyvers.”
“Nah, after hundreds of hours gaming, this much is nothing compared to that.”
“Huh? Gaming?” My eyes widened in shock the moment he mentioned something from the modern area.
“Is something wrong?” He confusingly asked.
“Do you perhaps mean video gaming?” I asked once again in order to confirm that I heard him correctly.
“Yeah, that's right. But I sure miss playing fps ones. It was kind of stress relieving for me, but ever since I came into this world, I won’t say that it's that bad.” He looked back at the view outside with a soft smile on his face.
“Wait, are you perhaps from Earth?” I asked, still surprised to see that me and him were from the same place.
“That's right, I thought you already knew about that though…” His voice became a little worried as he confusingly spoke to me.
“How was I supposed to know? You never mentioned it!”
“I did tell you on the first day though.”
If I remember correctly, when we met at the inn, I think he tried threatening me. Or that's what I got from the way he was talking.
‘f someone isn't strong enough in this world, then it won't be surprising if they died. ’
‘You should keep an eye open during the night. You’ll never know what might happen in this kind of world.’
Those were the words that made me stay on guard against him.
Was I being way too paranoid?
“I recently learned that people like us are targeted by many people who hold high authority. And many of them have died from what I have read in history books of this world.”
So when he told me to keep an eye open… he was talking about this?
“I assumed that you already knew that we were from the same birthplace, that's why I tried warning you. You and your party immediately left from the battlefield, that's why I tried searching for you. And honestly, I was glad when I found that Aya was in the same inn as you.” He let out a sigh after recalling the day we first met.
That's why he was with Aya that night as well. He wanted to ask her about me!
“Instead of warning me, I honestly took that as a threat from you…” I also let out another sigh as I lowered my head a bit in frustration.
“W-wait really?! I didn't mean to do that!” He contained explaining. “I just couldn't handle the fact that someone who’s from the same area as me would disappear like that.” He worryingly apologized.
“Well, there’s no need to apologize. After all, I treated you like shit even though you saved us.”
“Nah, as long as no one was hurt. Then I don't really care.”
…
..
.
And after spending some more hours until no more people were wandering around, it was time for us to find out the main reasons that this town is experiencing this.
Right now, all of the girls were fully awake and ready to begin our plan, and they all knew what they were supposed to do.
“Alright, since Aya is the fastest one in our group, she’s coming with me.” I suggested as everyone was looking at me.
“Wait, wouldn't it be better if you went on your own?” The priest looked at Aya with concerned looks as she didn't think that Aya was capable of helping me.
“It would’ve been much better if I went on my own… but I can't do that.” I began explaining the reason behind me going with Aya in this sketchy mission. “As I am in my ghost form, I have formed some kind of soul contract with Theresa and Aya.”
“Soul contract? You can do that?” Kaito asked, a bit surprised to hear that.
“Yeah, I would be stuck in that abandoned house if it wasn't for Aya helping me.” I explained Kaito's question.
“H-hold on, wouldn't it be better if I came instead of Aya?” On the side was Theresa which still was concerned about Aya as she was petting the small dragon in her hands.
Actually, Theresa would act on her own, that's why we thought of a different mission where she would be useful for. I didn’t want Theresa to snap if we were to find something disturbing.
“You’ll be going with Emiko. I don't know if it's possible, but there might be people out there that are still unaffected.
I want you to rescue them.”
And the best place to find humans that are still sane, would be no other place than the prison of this town.
Since every other human in here has been brainwashed, then there wouldn't really be any purpose of holding up humans in jails, would they?
That's why we decided to split up in order to find out more hints as possible. “Can you do that for me?”
“I understand… However, even though you are a ghost, be careful.” Theresa’s eyes looked a bit lonely before I headed out with Aya.
“Don’t worry, I’ll protect Hiroki if necessary.” Aya assured the worried warrior before following after me.
…
And after we departed from the group, both me and Aya were stealthy walking in the shadows of this town’s streets.
Another reason that I chose Aya for this, was because she was best suited when doing hidden tasks. And I didnt need to worry about her, since her status had grown a lot more than I had expected.

And since Aya is a close combat fighter, her speed and reflexes had grown insanely fast, and I wouldn't be surprised if she became the same rank as Theresa.
[ Aya, we don't know if someone could be following us, so try not to make too much noise! ] I telepathically told Aya as we continued running through the rooftops of different houses.
[ Okay!! ]
Right now, we were on our way to the most important house in the entire town. And that would be no other place than the mansion where the feudal lord would be living.
I thought to myself that, if the demons wanted to take over a whole town, then the lord of this town would be their main target.
And if the priest’s coordinates were correct, then…
[ Hiroki, I think that's the place where we are supposed to go. ] Aya told me before we could proceed any further to the main road that led to that big mansion.
In the distance I could see the white mansion which was surrounded by massive iron fences. And at the main gate, two guards could be seen standing menacingly in front of it.
[ We’ll enter from the way around the place. ] I suggested after finding the darkest spot which would make it hard for any intruder to enter.
[ I understand, but how are we going to enter inside? Besides, it's too d-dark! ]
I felt Aya’s skin shivering a little as our surroundings became much darker from the night. I could understand if Aya was a bit scared about being in total darkness, but now that I'm with her, there’s nothing she has to worry about.
[ Well, now you don't have to worry about that. ]
<Night vision>
I assured Aya as I used night vision on her unsettled eyes.
[ .... ] Aya’s eyes widened for a bit before a sweet smile appeared on her face.
And I already knew that, now that she could see much better, there was nothing else that could stop us.
[ But how do we enter now? If we break the fences, I'm sure that the guards will notice. ] Aya wondered as she was waiting for further instructions from me.
Without thinking this twice, I levitated some hand sized rocks and held them in a certain pattern so Aya could jump over them as a staircase.
[ Do you think you can do it? ] I jokingly teased Aya without even explaining anything to her.
A smile appeared on her face as she clenched her fists. [ Yes! ]
And just like a feather falling into the ground, Aya used each of the rocks as a way of supporting herself in midair until we ended up on the other side of the fence.
We couldn't see any guards patrolling this kind of area, that's why we continued going further until we reached towards one side of the mansion’s walls.
[ We need to find a suitable place where you can stay on standby. ] I told Aya as I took control of her own body.
Aya got startled for a bit, but after seeing what I was trying to do, she took a deep breath.
Since we couldn't find any open windows or place where we could enter the mansion, I levitated different objects that I found on the ground, and began jumping to the rooftop of this mansion.
The mansion had a total of three floors so it wasn’t that high up for us to jump up at the roof.
When I found the best spot where Aya could stay, I carefully flew outside of her body.
“Aya, for the moment I'm going to need you to stay hidden in here. Do you think you can do that?” I gently rubbed her head as I was waiting for a quick response from her.
And after enjoying the nice sensation of having her own head patted, she slowly looked up at me and said. “Leave this to me!”
I gently smiled at her before heading off through the roof, finding myself inside an empty room which seemed to be the attic.
Firstly, I need to analyze where every guard, servant, and lord were located in this mansion.
<Aura Perception>
From all around me, I began receiving different presences which felt like they were walking around. But on this floor, I didn't seem to notice anyone, that's why I was going through every wall, looking around the rooms.
There’s nothing in here…
I thought to myself before going through the floor below, to the next part of the mansion.
In here, there were many different wide open rooms, in which one of them was the lord of this town.
And since I didn't want to get myself discovered, I tried staying hidden without anyone noticing me.
<Stealth>
And since I can walk through objects, I stayed hidden within a wall where a massive looking painting was hanging. It felt a little weird peeking a bit of my face through the painting, but I decided to ignore it in order to find out what was going on.

—————————
Inside the same room could be seen a chubby looking lord that seemed to be staring down at his own paperwork. His hands were trembling a little as his teeth could be seen gritting in anger.
His face had the same symptoms, just like the rest of the people in this town, but differently, hesitation could be seen in his eyes.
“Fucking useless!!!” The man shouted as he threw his own stuff off the table.
Even though veins were popping all over his clenched fists, terror could be seen on his eyes.
The whole room remained quiet as the lord couldn't seem to translate his own anger into words.
But as the man stood motionless, stuck with his unexplained anger within him, his face went completely pale as his eyes widened in fear.
“I’m coming in.” Said a voice behind the door, before a hooded man whose facial features couldn’t be seen entered inside.
“Did you find out where those adventurers came from?” Asked the mysterious hooded man.
“N-no, we’re still trying to find out who they are.” The lord stuttered in front of the hooded man as cold sweat was running down his face.
But the response that the lord gave, wasn't something that the hooded man wanted to hear.
“You know…” The hooded man slowly removed his hood as he calmly looked at the lord dead in the eyes. “I didn't let you have free will just so you can say that you couldn't figure out who some lowly adventurers are.”
And as he removed the robe that prevented anyone from looking at his identity, his glowing eyes were narrowed to slit, not pleased by the unsatisfied response of the lord.
“I u-understand, but you have to give me a bit more time. Those adventurers recently came in here, and I need time to see and confirm from the guild about their identity.” The lord tried reasoning with the guy whose white hair reflected the light of the ambient around the room.
“Now you see, I’m not as dumb as any of the humans around your town here. So I do have some knowledge about your way of sharing information.” The white haired guy bagan walking closer to the lord as its eyes did not separate from the lord. “That's why I left you untouched, because I knew you'd be helpful to me. So, if you don't bring me every information those adventurers have, I’ll have to–”
“Ay, you done here?”
But as the white haired guy was trying to threaten the lord, another voice was heard near the door.
It was a short boy with white hair and an innocent look on his eyes as he was waiting for a response.
That young guy began walking towards the other sharp looking demon who was threatening the lord’s life just some seconds ago.
“Yeah, I’m almost done.” Responded the harsh looking man without moving away from his position.
“Sweet.” Said the young boy as a grin appeared on his face. “But I have to agree, humans sure are fun to deal with.”
“You do understand that we are not here to fool around?” The demon glared at the younger one.
“I understand, I understand. But man, we can at least have a little fun.” The young boy complained as he let out a sigh.
“Galmeg!” The white haired man coldly called out to the young boy as a killing intent came out from him.
Even the lord was shivering in fear as he was experiencing this terrifying tension between two demons clashing with each other’s killing intent.
“Fine, I’ll simply wait outside~” The young boy let out another sigh as he turned around in order to leave. But as he was on his way out, his eyes glanced at the massive painting hanging on the wall.
The painting contained a character of an old looking man, holding four different swords filled with the blood of the monsters laying around.
“....” The young boy stared at the painting for a few seconds, before noticing the eyes in the painting staring right back at the young boy.
To him it almost looked like he was being stared at!
“E-EEEEEK!! It m-m-moved!!” The young boy screamed in fear just like a little girl as he rushed towards the white haired man who was a bit startled by the sudden reaction.
“What happened?!” The other demon asked in confusion as the young boy continued looking at the strange looking painting.
“T-the eyes! They moved!” The young boy stuttered in fear as tears could be seen at the edge of his eyes.
“You, a demon, got scared from a painting?!” The man looked down at the scared looking boy who was shivering in fear.
But even though the young man was shivering in fear, the calm looking demon simply looked down at him before slapping him with the back of his hand.
“Gahh!!!” The young boy ended up on the other side of the room before he could even realize what happened.
“I’ll make you fear me more than a damn fucking painting.” The demon clenched his hands in anger as an spherical, purple object formed on his hand. “So next time you spill random things like that, I’ll make sure that you won't even be able to remember what you look like.”
The demon began walking towards the injured boy before suddenly stopping.
“....”
“....”
“...change of plans.” Said the demon as the injured boy was getting up again. “Follow me.”
And as if nothing had happened between these two demons, they walked outside the room, leaving behind the lord who was hiding behind his desk.
“T-those demons!” He cursed them in his head as he couldn't do anything else other than hide and follow their demands.
And after a few moments of calming down, the lord got up on its feet once again and stared at his own hands which were still trembling.
“Is this how they always treat you?” Suddenly, from the darkest part of the room, the voice of a young man was heard.
The lord was startled as he thought that the demons had returned back to his room, but when he tried squeezing his eyes, he found a white haired man with dark clothes who seemed really calm.
“W-what do you want from me?! I already told you guys that I'm working on it.” The lord’s voice cracked a little in desperation as he didnt want to get his own brain messed up like the rest of the people in this town.
“I'm sorry if I have scared you. But don't worry, I'm not a demon.” Said Hiroki as he tried calming down the lord.
