Hearing the revelation of the demons, me and the others raised their heads, only to meet the shining eyes of the glaring look of the massive dragon.
Demons… a race of which has become a thing of the past.
While the world has been at peace from them, commoners and merchants have claimed that they are slowly becoming a tale to scare the young kids. Not because they have gone extinct, but because they don’t show themselves to humans anymore.
I also have seen demons in Holl town looking for a certain thing. And I am sure that they are planning something.
Since they have been trying to hide themselves from humans for so long, they wouldn't just sneak into one without having a strong reason behind it.
“Demons? Why would demons try to corrupt wyverns?” The red haired woman beside Kaito asked as she took a step forward.
“They’ve been really quiet these past few hundreds of years, so it's surprising to see a move from them.” The priest clarified as she looked at the dragon while the fog was slowly covering his whole body.
“Hmm…”
The dragon thought for a bit before his glowing red eyes pierced through the thickness of the fog which was covering him whole. It was a sigh where his body was no longer visible to anyone else other than its eyes.
“I believeth those gents art trying to strengtheneth their owneth t'rrit'ry using young dragons. ”
“That's…” Kaito fell into his thoughts after realizing what those demons might be trying to do.
“Yeah, apparently they haven't shown themselves to humans for certain reasons.” I stated as the atmosphere around us was growing tense about the plans that these demons might have.
“But I don't see how they wouldn't blend themselves between humans without being noticed.” I smirked a little as I crossed my arms together.
Everyone else was left speechless for a bit, but based on their glaring, yet bewildered look in their eyes, they all knew that what I was saying had to be true.
“So you’re saying that demons have been walking past us this whole time?” Kaito looked at me, unsure about the things I was saying.
“T-thats… scary…” Aya shrieked before coming closer to me and snuggling herself against my arm.
Even Theresa seemed a bit concerned before I noticed that she was standing some millimeters away from my other side.
“I'm sure that they have… and for a long time.” I voiced my thoughts to everyone about what I knew. “When we were in Holl town, I happened to see some of them searching for something.”
“You’ve seen them!?” The priest shouted in disbelief before setting back to her serious expression.
“Are you sure they were demons?” Kaito also asked with a look on his face that wasn't certain, but I could see pride in his eyes as he couldn't let this information pass by. He was the kind of guy who wanted to involve himself in anything that risked the safety of humans.
“They had white hair with dark piercing red eyes.” I tried recalling how they looked, noticing perplexed expressions from everyone else.
Even Aya and Theresa were looking at me for a moment before realizing that I was describing myself.
“Oh, both me and my party happened to be under some kind of curse which whitened our hair like this. But don’t worry, they don’t really harm us or anyone else so there’s nothing to worry about.” I tried giving them a small, brief explanation about our appearance without making them any more confused. “Besides, demons have vertical slit eyes, different from mine.”
I was sure that they already doubted me about the things I was about to do… but I don't want to agree that I was a ghost… at least not yet…
“I thought so as well… '' Kaito let out a relieved sigh before looking back at me. “I thought that dyeing your hair was becoming a common thing. That way demons would blend much easier between humans…”
“Dye..ing? What is that?” The calm looking girl beside him asked as she tilted her head.
“It means to change the natural color of your hair.” Kaito explained.
“You can do that?”
“Yeah, I think so?”
But the way Kaito responded back to the gray haired girl beside him wasn't certain anymore. It was as if he was doubting himself whether it was possible to change hair colors or not.
I mean both Aya and Theresa’s hair changed because of my skill, so changing hair color shouldn't be a common thing.
“Demons has't come to me in diff'rent ways, so ent'ring a human t'rrit'ry shouldn't beest that hard f'r those demons. ”
The voice of the massive dragon was heard after being quiet for some time, listening to our conversations.
“Different ways?!” Theresa suddenly shouted. “So what you’re saying is that demons are capable of entering a territory filled with dragons easily?!”
The question that Thersa asked, made everyone clench their own fists from what demons might be capable of.
“Hahahaha!”
A laugh was heard from a distance for the first time, causing everyone’s bodies to shiver a litte.
“Those demons don’t standeth a chance 'gainst mine own children. ”
Even though this dragon was laughing, no one else dared to say another word from their mouths.
“Then how did they come into your territory without being noticed?” I asked, curious to know the ways the demons acted.
“Same way those gents didst to ev'ry oth'r dragon. ”
An angered voice was heard in our heads before we realized how dirty they have been doing this until now.
“You dont mean…” Aya gasped.
“They mind corrupted dragons to do their job for them?” The priest finished the sentence as her eyes widened in shock.
“That's why I planeth on destroying any demon who didst this to mine own kind!
The dragon declared before looking back at us.
“But isn't it easier to go to the demon kingdom?” I asked before everyone looked at me, unsure what to say to my bold question.
“Hatsuko… I don't know if you know this, but demons have sealed their whole kingdom.” Kaito carefully explained.
“No one can enter or leave that barrier which the last demon lord has created.” The priest added after Kaito finished talking.
“But from the way things have happened, then that means demons are capable of leaving their barrier.” The red haired woman concluded after listening to what her friends had to say.
I see, that also means that the barrier is so strong that even this massive looking dragon can't even destroy it.
It's unimaginable to know how powerful the demon lord might be to create a never lasting barrier for the whole kingdom.
I'm not aware of the full history between demons and humans, but I believe that there had been a truce between these two races without causing any new wars.
I also hate the fact that I am not well informed about this kind of thing, that's why I plan on getting more information about this.
It's a bit weird that none of the other kingdoms have ever tried contacting one another for so long without starting another war.
It also may be fear against the power of demons, but that's more of a reason to act before they would grow stronger.
Unless…
“Demons are trying to mind corrupt humans as well!” I came to realisation before telling this to everyone.
This shocked everyone for the things that demons have been trying to pull all these years without being noticed or caught.
“That's what I thought as well.” But on the other hand, the priest had become more serious as she had fallen into her own thoughts.
But the question is, why would they do that? Is this one of their plans in order to attack humans in this world?
“I und'rstand now. So those puny demons art hiding within human t'rrit'ry. I myself shalt dealeth with this and destroyeth them all!”
The voice of an angered dragon was heard within our heads as we were trying to figure out what those demons were planning.
But letting this incredible powerful dragon deal with demons in human territory would cause nothing else but destruction.
“No wait!” I called out to the dragon before he could leave from here.
“Do thou has't anything to sayeth, weak one?”
The dragon’s voice resonated from the sudden interruption.
“If those demons are in human territory, can you leave this small problem to us, humans? If you were to go to a human town, you’ll surely cause massive destruction as humans are really fragile.” I tried reasoning with the dragon before he could snap back at me.
“Also, if you leave this to us, I'm sure that your daughter ought to learn more about their lives.”
Everyone managed to obscure the tension around the atmosphere as they mulled over to the dragon’s long silence.
“Good , I shalt leaveth this small problem to thou.”
The dragon decided before raising his neck up into the sky.
Kaito looked at me with the eyes saying ‘You did a great job.’. While everyone was relieved that we didn't have the need to deal with such a powerful dragon.
“I expecteth most wondrous results, and I hope that mine own daught'r shall learneth a lot from this exp'rience.
We shalt meeteth soon again”
The dragon said as it flapped its massive wings, flying itself away from here. The trees around us, and many more rocks began blowing away from the ternmous force of the air caused by the dragon’s wings. But thanks to the priest’s thinking, everyone was unscratech from the barrier.
….
…
..
.
After we agreed with the dragon to find the demons who were behind the mind corruption, we decided to follow a river we soon found. While we weren’t sure where we were supposed to go, following the river was sure that it would lead us somewhere populated by humans.
It was early in the morning and the sun wasn't out to be seen yet. The weather was really chilly and I could see Theresa’s and Aya’s skins shivering a little as they were trying to warm themselves up.
…
In the distance we could see some constructions which I immediately recognised.
It was definitely a town surrounded by not so big walls around it.
“That's Amberlight!” A relieved voice from a priest was heard as we were coming closer to the town.
“Have you been here before?” A curious voice of a black haired boy was heard.
“Yeah, this was where I used to live before I met you.” The priest responded back to Kaito as a little blush began forming on her cheeks.
But ignoring the way those two were acting, I felt Aya’s arm locking into mine as she looked up at me with her adorable eyes.
Theresa on the other hand got really close to the silver winged dragon as it was cuddling with her voluptuous breasts. That's how I understood why Yelena seemed to cuddle with Theresa that much.
Since it would be quite troublesome to enter a town with a dangerous dragon, its body shrank into the size of a normal cat.
I was a bit impressed that the silver winged dragon could do that, but this way, we won't grab the attention of many humans in the town that we were about to enter.
…
After we reached the gates of Amberlight, we were immediately stopped by a weird looking guard whose eyes seemed to have grown tired as red veins were covering most of the white part of the eyes. From here I could even see how eye bags were formed, showing how he had spent countless nights without sleep.
“Do you have any identification cards?” And as soon as we approached him, with a dead voice that didn't have the will to do anything, he asked us.
“Yeah.” Kaito responded as we all gave anything that proved our identity.
After the guard carefully looked at each of our identification cards, the guard moved his eyes back up and took another look at us.
“State your reason for coming to this town.” His dead like voice quietly asked.
“We're here to complete one of the–'' The red haired woman tried explaining to the guard, but before she could finish explaining, I decided to interrupt her.
“We heard that there were many guests in this town which were paid handsomely. So you know, we couldn't resist, but come in here.” I quickly explained to the guard before the woman beside Kaito told the whole truth to the guard.
“....” The guard quietly stared at us before giving back all of our identification cards.
“We do have the need for some adventurers here actually, and I believe that some of them might interest you. But before you go, you should give a collar to that young dragon.” The guard suggested as he took a glance at the silver winged dragon which was sleeping at the top of Theresa’s head.
“I understand. Thank you.” I responded before we entered inside the gate.
We began walking through the path which immediately led to the main roads of the town.
Everything seemed normal and peaceful at first, but as we continued analyzing this place… we noticed that it was way too quiet…
Not many people could be seen wandering around. The traders, food sellers, and merchants didn't even yell out a word in order to grab the attention of its customers.
It was as if no one cared about their own business…
It just felt really weird…

“This place is weird…” Aya expressed as we were analyzing our surroundings.
Around us could be seen some people that walked past us while keeping their eyes on the ground, uninterested in anything at all.
“Yeah, everyone seems… different.” The priest voiced after agreeing that the town that she used to live in wasn't the same.
…
We followed this path until we decided to stop at a food stall where delicious dried meat was being sold.
All of the girls bought one except for me and Kaito, and from theri expression, the food seems pretty normal and delicious.
“Thanks for your purchase.” The guy who was selling the dried meat, said with a tired look on his face.
“May I ask something?” Kaito asked, finding this situation the best chance to get more information about this town.
The shop owner slowly nodded before he looked back at us.
“We are new in this town, and we are noticing many people that seem… unwell based on their looks. Has anything unusual happened in this town?” Kaito casually asked him as he got closer so no one else could hear us.
But that guy looked back at us with a puzzled look on his face.
"This town has been quite peaceful for the last few weeks. I'm not sure I follow what you're talking about…"
So even this guy is either unaware of the situation of this town or everyone here simply can't talk about it.
"We understand, thank you for your information." I thanked him, before informing everyone else that we had to move.
"It's not only that guy… But everyone else in this town as well." The gray haired woman said as we saw the similar expressions on everyone's faces.
"They all seem… sick…" A worried, yet, angry voice of a priest was heard as we were heading towards the guild of this town.
The skin on many people that we could see were completely white, to the point of realizing that something was definitely happening in this town.
Not only the people, but also the whole town seemed gloomy and uninterested in anything. Everything seemed so dead to the point of barely hearing any kids or people laughing and arguing.
…
After arriving at the guild, we saw people with the same kind of expressions and effect who didn't have the will to continue going on with their daily lives.
And the moment everyone noticed that we had entered inside the guild, no one peeped a sound.
While ignoring everyone’s stares, the priest, followed by the rest of us went straight towards the receptionist of this guild.
“Elora, do you remember me?” The priest asked as soon as she got closer to that receptionist girl who had the same symptomes on her face just like the rest of the people.
But even though the priest seemed really close to this girl, she didn't show any signs of interest.
“Emiko… you’re back?” The receptionist tilted her head as she calmly responded to her friend who had not seen for so long.
That's what confused the priest for a bit. A friend that she hadn't met for a long time, didn't seem excited or interested at all.
“Elora… you too?” The priest, unsure of how she could respond to her friend, let out a soft and pained voice before looking back at her friend.
But seeing how the priest couldn't bring herself to say anything else, Kaito approached the desk and gently held her hand. Then he looked back at Elora with a confident but calm look on his face.
“A swarm of wyverns have been acting strangely somewhere near this town. We barely escaped as we were on our way here. So, I’ve been wondering, has anything strangely been acting in this town?” Katito confidently asked as he was waiting for the receptionist to respond.
But as the receptionist was a bit unsure of how she could respond, Kaito did not separate his eyes from her.
“We’ll gladly take any quests if necessary. Me and my party are confident that we can deal with it.” Kaito gave another push so the receptionist could say something.
“Firstly…” The receptionist stared us all dead in the eyes before looking back down on her desk.
“Can I see your guild cards?” She asked with a voice that didn't contain any will or emotion inside it.
And after everyone gave their own guild card, the receptionist carefully looked at each of them before giving it back to us.
“We don't have many quests right now, but we do need more manpower.” The receptionist voiced out as she pulled out a quest.
Since I couldn't understand what was written in the quest, the priest took it and read it for a few seconds before handing it back to the receptionist.
“Are there any other quests?” The priest asked.
“Yes, there are plenty of herb quests, but I don't think they are suitable for your rank.” The recespinosit responded with the same tone on her voice.
“I understand. I’ll talk with my party members first before deciding anything.” The priest, who didn't seem concerned about her friend anymore, left the paper quest on her desk and walked away from the guild.
“Emiko, what happened?” Kaito asked as we all were following after her.
“S-she… she’s not Elora!” The priest stuttered as she looked at her own hands.
And being sure how to respond to her, Kaito looked at her, concerned about what she was saying.
“What do you mean?” Kaito asked, curious to know of how she could not be the same friend.
Even though I could tell that she didn't act like she knew her friend, she still had the same look and name. For all we know, she could be under the same effect as the rest of the people in this town.
“We used to spend all the time together, and I could not imagine her acting like this. She was like a sister to me. We basically did everything together, and I can tell that she is not the same person that I used to know.” The priest cried out as she leaned her head over Kaito’s chest.
And while Kaito was gently embracing the priest, Aya was blankly looking before she tried saying something.
“Is something wrong?” I asked, a bit concerned about the way she had fallen into deep thoughts.
“N-no, it's just, I was thinking about the way people talked the same way.” Aya pointed out after she snapped out of her thoughts.
“Yeah, I noticed that as well.” Theresa also agreed with Aya as they were thinking of something.
Everyone else seemed to have noticed the way people in this town acted the same way.
“It almost feels like they have no personality at all…” The red haired woman also added as we were trying to figure out what was happening.
“Hold on, we are forgetting about something here.” I grabbed everyone’s attention as I immediately realized that something was definitely up in here.
“We came here to investigate the adventurers that went missing.”
Everyone looked at me after recalling how adventurers had gone missing.
“You don’t mean that they are…” Kaio voiced in anger after realizing what could have happened.
“Yeah, they might be in the same state as the rest of the people in this town.” I added, fully understanding that the same might happen to us if we aren't careful.
“This must be someone’s doing.” Theresa held the small dragon in her arms as she said to us.
“Someone who is powerful enough. Someone who can pull strings from the shadows without anyone noticing.”
Everyone’s eyes widened in shock after finally figuring out what I was trying to say.
“””Demons!!””” Everyone said at once after connecting everything that had happened until now.
Demons have been trying to do something in the dark for the past hundreds of years in human’s territory.
They tried to gather many dragons and monsters in order to strengthen their own race.
I also have seen them trying to find something in Holl town, a day before the dungeon outbreak.
And I wouldn't be surprised if demons were behind that incident as well.
But if demons really were behind that dungeon outbreak, then why didn't they simply brainwash them as well just as they have in this town?
“That’s right. Demons must be trying to do something if they are brainwashing humans.” I muttered to everyone as I knew that someone could be listening to us right now.
“Doesn't that mean…” The gray haired girl softly spoke in realization.
“They are trying to weaken humanity before an all out war starts.” The priset finished her friend’s sentence with an angered look on her face.
“We need to find the demons who are trying to manipulate everyone!” Theresa also added as she curled her own lip.
But right now, we have some problems that we need to quickly figure out. And one of them was where we could find those demons hiding in this city.
And since we didn't want to stand out too much standing in the middle of the road, we decided to find an inn so we could stay.
We decided to come up with a plan in one of the rooms so no one else could listen to us.
…
“Before we start, let's discuss everything we know so far.” The priest suggested, before we could talk about the main plan..
“The first thing that I suspect is the dungeon outbreak at Holl town.” I confidently said.
“You’re saying that demons were behind that attack as well? Wouldn't it have been easier to brainwash everyone instead of destroying a city?” The gray haired girl chimed in with my thoughts before I could even explain what I was figuring out.
“I thought that as well, but I did see some demons lurking around. So there’s a chance that demon’s were behind it as well.” I explained my hypothesis as everyone was paying close attention to me.
“Next up, we have the swarm of wvyvers that attacked our ship.”
Everyone looked at me with frustrated looks on their eyes as they were reminded of what happened during our trip in this town.
Not only many people were killed in that ship, but also Aya and Theresa’s lives were at risk to the point where I didn’t think I could forgive myself.
“It was a suicidal kill, planned by that butler. I’m assuming that he was under the same brainwashing effect as well.” Kaito clenched both of his fists in anger about the events that almost got everyone killed.
“But why did they try to kill us…” Aya thought for a bit, uncertain about the hit on us.
“Unless… they somehow got information about us.” I responded to Aya’s question as I was trying to understand who could have gotten information about us.
“Other than the guild master, no one else knew about us.” Kaito also added, fully confident about the guild master.
“I agree on that as well. If the guildmaster was included in this, he either wants us dead, or he truly didn't know anything about this. And if he really planned this, he wouldn't have attacked all of us using that swarm of wyverns. He must know that we are at least capable of escaping from there.” I backed up Kaito’s opinion about the guildmaster before coming to a conclusion.
“So the guildmaster is not bad?” Aya innocently asked as she was trying her hardest to understand who our enemy was.
“Yes, someone else must have gotten this information.” Kaito responded back to Aya’s question.
“But who?” Theresa asked.
“Someone who has access to the guildmaster's main room.” The priest assumed.
There was another gap of silence in this room as everyone was trying to figure this one out.
“Leaving the imposter aside, we still have to discuss the remaining information we have so far.” I broke down the ice before going back to the main subject.
“That's right, we need to find the main demons who have brainwashed all of the humans in this town.” The priset softly said, but in her eyes I could see slight anger about the state of the people in this town. This wasn't only because many people have become like dolls with no whatsoever emotion, but because someone she trusted was affected as well.
“But the question is where do we find their hideout?” Kaito asked as everyone was wondering about the same question as well.
Going out here will definitely attract attention from all over the palace. So we need to think of a well thought plan before we act. And I'm sure that we don't have that much time as the brainwashed guards must have notified the demons about us being in this town.
That's why in order for this plan to go smoothly, I need to sneak into different buildings since I can walk through walls without anyone noticing me.
But before I could suggest this to everyone, I had to tell them about me…
They must have already known for some time, and decided to keep quiet about it.
“Everyone… I have something to tell you all…” I got everyone’s attention before we could begin discussing our main plan.
And as they were looking at me, waiting for me to talk, a tense atmosphere was going through this room.
“I am a ghost.”
