One week later (Oct. 25, 2083)
“I can’t believe it,” the doctor gasped in amazement as he looked at Ellington's x-ray, as though he was trying to process what he was seeing. “The fracture you obtained is almost nonexistent. It shouldn’t be possible without having at least two surgeries.”
Ellington rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, not knowing what to say. He has never been a good liar. And there was no way he could say that a fox god sent him magic candy that could heal any injury. He would look like a complete nut job. Luckily, he planned for this situation.
“I know it might seem odd, but my family has always had strong genes which caused us to heal faster than others. My dad said it's because our ancestors drank the blood of a golden bear, but who knows?"
“Nevertheless, your progress was still very fast. So his claims might be true. Because this is unprecedented, almost supernatural recovery,” the doctor stated, still amazed.
“M... maybe you're right,” Elli chuckled hesitantly, worried that the man wouldn't just dismiss it as being genetically gifted. Fortunately, he had a Plan B. “Honestly, in all seriousness, I think it was this hospital’s meticulous care of me that really helped speed up my recovery process. After all, the hospital has the best doctors.”
“Haha," the man chuckled, his ears turning red. "I don't like to brag, but we are better than most."
“You are. That’s why I told the ambulance to take me here, instead of Westside General. I only wanted to be treated by the best,” Elli said, trying to play off his lie.
The doctor nodded in understanding. “Those people in Westside General are the absolute worst. I don’t know how that hospital is still running.”
Ellington just nodded in agreement, relieved that he could change the topic away from his fast healing. It would’ve been impossible to stick to his story if the man asked him any further questions.
“Well, I’ll let you rest. I will let the nurses know they can discharge you in a couple of days,” the doctor said as he got up to leave. “Oh, and congratulations on a miraculous recovery, Mr. Frost!”
“Thank you.” With that, the doctor was gone, and Ellington could finally relax. He was glad he bugged Bluey for any information he could use about this place. Who knew, knowing that Eastside General hospital had a rivalry with Westside General would come in handy.
Ellington gave a small smile before settling back on his bed. Now all he has to do is rest for a month. By then, his leg should be healed. Once he goes to his next appointment, he should be cleared to skate, and then nothing could stand in his way from finishing his task.
'Hopefully, they won't kick me from the team before I'm healed.'
I’m surprised that you still want to go back to the Gallic Roosters after everything they have done.
Startled, Ellington clutched his chest as Bluey appeared. “What did I tell you about popping out of nowhere? You almost gave me a heart attack.”
You are always so dramatic. What do you want me to do, ring a bell before I arrive? It’s not my fault you get lost in your head.
Ellington rolled his eyes. It was kind of annoying how the cat always tried to get the last word. Sometimes he thinks he would've preferred it if the fox would have given him a system that didn't have a personality. But he had to admit that he would miss their bantering.
“I'm going back to the Gallic Roosters because if I don’t, no other team will have me. From what you told me, the previous owner has no merits to his name yet. And because of my broken leg, they definitely wouldn't want me."

But your leg will be healed soon.
"That doesn't matter," Elli began with a knowing smile. "Once a skater injures their leg as serious as mine, they won't be able to be as good on the ice as they once were. This type of accident would cause most people to retire. So I need to prove to other teams that even with a busted leg, I'm still a contender. So I’m going to use the original owner's team facilities and everything else they have until I’m good enough to leave.”
But how? Benoit wants you gone, and the coach is on his side. Even if you sort out the scandal, there is no way they will allow you to stay.
“Don’t worry about how. I got my ways,” Elli smirked. “Did you take care of what I asked you to do?”
Yup. But I don’t understand why you wanted me to send that information about how severe your accident was to that person.
Ellington smiled beautifully. His plans were coming together. He knew Bluey was curious about what he was doing, but he wouldn’t tell until the time was right. The cat wouldn’t be able to question his intellect once it sees the results.
“Just trust me,” Elli said with a satisfied smirk on his face. His contented expression faded as he remembered something important. “If I’m going to be released in a couple of days. Where am I going to stay? I can't go back to the team's dorm.”
As soon as he asked the question, the phone that sat on the side table next to his bed rang. Ellington turned to it and smiled as a sudden thought entered his mind. 'If this world was really a novel, this call would give him a solution to his living arrangements.'
Laughing at the thought, he grabs the phone only to see that it’s this body’s mother. It might not be as farfetched as he thought.
“Hello,” he answers hesitantly, unsure how to speak to someone else’s parents.
“Elli dear, it’s me, mom,” a woman responds with a tinge of worry in her voice. “How are you?”
“I’m doing good.”
“That’s great to hear. I just wanted to say sorry. I wasn’t able to be by your side doing this entire ordeal,” she sniffled.
Fidgeting with his ear, Elli nodded before remembering she couldn’t see him. “It’s okay. I understand it is a long way to travel.”
“No, it’s not okay. We should have been there for you,” she asserted sternly. “And we will be. We managed to scrounge up money, so we’ll see you soon.”
Ellington didn’t know how to react it seems that the parents of the previous owner loved him a lot. However, now he was in this body. There was no way parents wouldn’t know their son. He was scared that once they arrived, they would be able to see that he was an imposter straight away.
“I can’t wait to see you guys,” he replied, hoping that the response wasn’t out of character for their son.
“I can’t wait to see you either. Now I know you are probably hurting, so why don’t you rest some more? We’ll be there in a couple of hours.”
After saying his goodbyes, he hung up the phone. It was unclear what he should do. He knew he wouldn’t be able to treat them the same way he treated his parents. Although he felt bad, the most he could do was treat them with respect. He wouldn’t use them to replace his original parents.
