"You want me to do what now?" Elli asked, looking at the coach with a mixture of confusion and disbelief. The man must have lost his goddamn mind.
Although he didn't know what occurred between the original owner and Benoit, he knew the blame shouldn't be placed on him and him alone. From what his system told him, the boy who inhabited this body previously was innocent. It seemed, however, that the coach didn't give a damn about any of that.
"Look, considering your circumstances," Ryan began, glancing at his fractured leg. "You're no good for the Gallic Roosters. It's better for you to admit you were in the wrong."
"Why should I have to admit something that wasn't even my fault? That's completely idiotic!" Elli sneered.
"I don't see what the problem is here. By the time your leg heals and you're able to skate again, the public would have forgotten this incident altogether. And then, you could just rebrand yourself and start anew. The Gallic Roosters will welcome you back with open arms. You don't have to worry about anything."
The coach must have taken the original owner of this body for a simpleton, because only an idiot would buy the bullshit he was selling. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't the original owner. Elli knew a load of crap when he saw one.
He could tell from a mile away that the man wanted to throw him under the bus. But there was no way he would lie under one willingly. Instead, he just turned his nose up in contempt at the man's feeble attempts at manipulation.
If he were to agree to what the coach wanted, there would be no coming back. Benoit was too much of a beloved figure skating industry for that to be possible. He was basically an idol.
So Ellington knew that if he were to admit that it was his fault that Benoit got hurt, the netizens would drag him to hell and back. There wouldn't be a chance for rebranding because what he admitted he did would always be at the forefront of their minds.
'This guy must think I'm dumb,' Elli thought as the coach continued to try to talk some sense into him, not knowing it was falling on deaf ears.
It must be your face, because I thought the same.
'....' Elli gave his system a quick glance, completely speechless. 'I see you are a jokester.'
I wasn't joking. The assumption is more true than I thought.
'Out of all the systems I could have gotten, I get the one that is a smart alec.'
Well, one of us has to be smart.
While Ellington was seriously contemplating whether to invest in a spray bottle, something the coach said about getting a deposit caught his attention. "What did you say? What deposit?"
"To help you out with your hospital bills, the skating organization sent $50, 000 to your account," the man smiled, seeing that he caught the boy's attention. "There's a little extra to help you while you're healing."

Ellington could see that they were trying to bribe him. It was just that he felt like they should at least have offered him a higher price. Fifty thousand was disrespectful when his hospital bill would likely end up being thirty-five thousand or above to fix his leg. As if right on cue, his leg began to throb.
It seemed that this body wasn't as adept to pain as his previous one was. What a lightweight. However, even though it was tolerable right now, the pain would increase later, and he had been in the hospital long enough to know that it was best to stop it before it got too bad.
He thought about calling a nurse, but he didn’t want to show the man any weakness. Ellington decided it was best to give the coach a vague answer. That way, he could buy some time for himself to figure out what he needed to do.
"I will think about everything you said, and get back to you later," Elli said, hoping the man would be satisfied with his answer and leave.
Ryan gave him a hard stare as he was trying to read his thoughts. Ellington helped him out by making himself appear as though he was thinking over his words. Anything to make him leave faster.
“You said you sent fifty thousand, right? Can you make it one hundred thousand?” he asked, trying to make it appear he was desperate for the money. “I might need another surgery for my leg.”
Ryan nodded, trying to hide the victorious smile on his face. “I will talk to the committee about it, but they probably want to see your apology before they send the money."
"Then how will I know if I will get the money? I think it's best to wait until it's in my account." Elli stated, logically. His leg was hurting too much for him to keep playing around.
Understanding what he meant, the man's face changed. He realized the boy in front of him wasn't as much of an idiot as he thought he was. A newfound respect for the boy appeared, however, it soon faded away, knowing he was giving up his entire career for only 100k.
"You will get it, don't worry. But you must promise once it's in your account, you must send the apology."
"I promise," Elli replied with a sweet smile. 'I might have promised to send an apology, but I never specified which kind it would be.'
"Good."
Once the man got what he thought he came for, he talked to him for a couple more minutes. It was mostly small talk about how he was feeling and what the doctor say about his leg, before leaving.
Ellington was glad his cat system was there to feed him answers because he literally knew nothing. He kind of wished the fox had sent him into a body that had hit its head. Having memory loss would have helped him tremendously to acclimate to this new world because he would be able to act any way he wanted without being suspicious.
Don't worry Zivot, made sure that the body you are in has a similar personality as you.
Ellington sighed with relief. Although he was still a little worried, this made him feel more at ease.
