Twenty Minutes Later

After the nurse delivered his pain medicine, the throbbing ache that Ellington felt subsided. His mind seemed clearer now that he was no longer distracted by his leg. As a result, he was ready to plan his course of action.

But first, he needed to know exactly how the original owner landed in the hospital. Because that would determine how he handled things from here on out.

Turning toward his cat-eared system, he inquired about what had happened to the previous owner. "System, can you tell me what occurred before I arrived?"

As I previously told you, Benoit saw the other Ellington as a rival, one that could threaten everything he worked for. Because he has a personality where everything is handed to him. Instead of working hard to improve himself to stay on top, Benoit, the best solution was to come up with a scheme to end Ellington's entire career.

"Just because the original owner landed a six-spin jump one time? How does that make any sense?" Elli asked, shocked at how petty the man was.

It doesn't.

Elli thought the fame must have gone straight to his head, corrupting his morals. That was the only explanation that made sense to him. "So, what scheme did he come up with?"

Since he wanted him out of the way permanently, he decided the best way to deal with the original owner was to fracture his leg. Benoit planned it out brilliantly. He practiced falling so that it would look genuine. He had one of his henchmen turn off all the CCTVs in the rink and even researched what types of falls ice skaters could have that would cause the most damage.

"I can't believe he put in all that effort just to sabotage someone," Elli said with a shake of his head. "It seems he was determined to have him not stand in his way."

Yes, he is. Benoit's goal is to win the Olympics three times in a row, something no figure skater has managed to do. If he is able to achieve that, he would be set for life. This would put him on a pedestal cementing this skating style, which would cause the artistry in this sport to be lost forever.

Ellington was glad that the Olympics were once every four years or he would be in trouble. It would at least give him some time to learn the basics before diving in. "Well, we have a lot of time to stop it. After all, he only won once so far."

Actually, he won twice, once when he was 18 and most recently when he was 21.

"Shit!" muttered Elli. "When is the next one?"

In three years. That's why he saw the original owner as a competition and wanted to get rid of him.

"Well, he succeeded in doing that," Elli said, looking at his leg. "He even has the coaches on his side."

He didn't stop there. To make sure the original owner would never be a threat again, Benoit posted on his social media, misrepresenting the events and making it seem like everything that happened was the original owner's fault. It's going viral on the web as we speak. Most people have been swayed by him already, thinking that the original wanted to hurt their idol deliberately. However, there are some that are still waiting for clarification.

Ellington had a feeling that if he hadn't shown up, the original owner would have fallen for the coach's words and become cannon fodder once more. It was no wonder the fox wanted him to come here. The ripple has switched the protagonist with a villain.

'Urg, that fox set me up with an impossible task,' Elli internally moaned, wondering why it was up to him to fix this mess.

Zivot searched through multiple dimensions to find you. You should be honored to complete this task.

Flopping back on his bed, he sighed. "So let me get this straight. I need to dazzle the masses with my artistry and qualify for the Olympics in three years when I have never stepped on the ice in my life, all the while fending off the attacks that Benoit will send my way. Is that what you telling me?"

Ellington had to admit that this didn't sound like an honor. It sounded like an arduous task. He could already imagine the long hours of practicing and, with his nonexistent skills, it would probably take him years to get the basics down. There was no way he would be at the Olympic level in just three years.

Suddenly, a thought occurred to him, and he realized he was being stupid. He had a system. Ellington had read enough books to know that with a system, any problems he would encounter would be taken care of by it. Excitement filled him, and he quickly shot up in his bed.

Turning toward his system, a bright smile crossed his face before saying, "As we both, I won't be able to complete the mission assigned to me with no assistance."

Yes, that is why Zivot gave you to me.

"Does that mean you are going to give me amazing ice skating skills? So that I will only have to worry about any plots Benoit throws at me?"

No.

"What do you mean, no? You're a system! That's what you are supposed to do! Are you really not going to give me any skills to help me complete this task?" Elli questioned. There was no way that he had been isekai-ed and his only cheat was to see profiles of people he met. That would be devastating.

Of course, that's not your only cheat. Zivot doesn't have that much faith in your abilities. You think too highly of yourself.

Ellington didn't know rather to be happy that he had other cheats or to be insulted at their lack of belief in him. It was better for him to be glad than to be disappointed since he doubted himself more than they did.

It's good that you know yourself.

"..." Elli decided a spray bottle might be needed. "So if you will not endow me with ice-skating skills, what kind of cheats are you going to give me?"

Cheats that will allow you to become a great figure skater on your own. Zivot wanted you to be able to upgrade your natural attributes. That way, it would be your own efforts that would allow you to complete the task of bringing artistry back to this world.

Ellington liked the sound of that. He didn't mind the hard work, especially since being an ice skater had been a dream of his since he was a child. Thus, he would feel accomplished if he could become a top skater of his own accord. However, even though it would be wonderful, there was just not enough time to do so with no outside help.

Don't worry, these attributes will level up similarly to a game, allowing you to learn everything in a shorter timeframe. It will only speed up the process and not take away from your own achievements.

Ellington let out a breath. This was better than he imagined. "So, what are the attributes?"

I don't know, most of my program is locked. Right now, I'm in basic mode. I can only show profiles and open the system shop, but nothing else.

"How do I unlock you?" Elli questioned, getting slightly worried.

You need to complete a task.

He knew it. In these types of situations to gain power, the protagonist always needs to go through some type of difficult task. Like in webnovels, where the main character needs to sacrifice someone to the dark forces. Ellington hoped it wouldn't be that extreme.

"What do I need to do?" he asked. However, nothing could prepare him for what the system said.

You need to name me.

If this was an anime, a large sweat drop would have appeared on his temple.
