"I don't need to take a piss anymore," Ian mutters, picking himself up off the ground. "I think my whole dick just retracted into me."
"Pleasant," Marcus deadpans as he's pushed off Kisung's legs. "Please do give me further updates on your genitalia as things progress."
"Did we move again?" Kisung complains. "If we're back at where we started I'm gonna set this whole fucking place on fire."
"While everything is wet?" Vincenzo scoffs. "Good luck." He grabs May again and lifts her up.
"We're close," May reassures them. She can even see the small trail they've left…
She can also see several more trails through the field, what she first thought was natural breaks and gaps in the grass. Trails are scattered around, most leading into the forest from close to where they started. Are there more people then?
There's a faint figure in bright red that jumps out from the grass briefly, only seen because the plains are flat as a board and their sudden movement stands out from the relatively still grass. May quickly sticks her arms up and waves, hoping the uniform's dark green doesn't blend with the lavender grass, but the figure disappears again.
"What do you see?" Marcus asks.
"People," May explains. "One at least."
The red figure pops up again, but goes higher slowly, probably being lifted up. They wave back after a while. A few more people come up, turning into a tiny blur of colours because they're too far away.
"There's a lot," she corrects. "Not from our school I think."
"Are they coming this way?" Ian wonders.
"They're just waving for now."
"Come down," Marcus says. "Let me go up."
Marcus switches with May, sitting on Vincenzo's shoulders again and taking off his blazer to swing it around. "They see us. I can't figure out what they're gestures are. Damn, too far away."
"I'm not walking back," Kisung states.
"That would be pointless," Marcus agrees, sliding on his blazer again. "We'll go to the trees. If they're smart, they'll follow. If they're stupid, we don't need them."
Vincenzo drops Marcus down. "So, what, that thing we saw is throwing people here? Shouldn't we go back and try to hitch a ride?"
"Does it seem friendly to you?" Marcus argues. "Let's see what happens with this new group first."
They continue walking, occasionally stopping to check on the other group, who appear to be slowly making their way over. Kisung lights a cigarette but the other three bitch at him until he puts it out. Another hour or so goes by and they can see the strange trees looming over them if they look up.
The grass finally starts to thin out and soon after they break away completely into a forest area. It's darker here, the mushroom tree caps blocking out the sun, which also means there's very little leaf litter or plants down here from the lack of sunlight. It's still dense, with plants mostly coloured purple or red embedded into tree trunks or winding up as vines.
"Let's take five," Ian sighs. "I'm hungry."
Marcus shakes his head and takes the lead again. "It's better to check the area first."
"We can do that later, gorgeous," Ian insists. "Unless you can zoom up that tree without a break after hours of walking through grass on steroids."
Marcus stops, mostly because he realises no one is following him. "Fine. But we need to climb up before the other group gets here."
"Why?" Kisung whines, flopping down on the dirt with his legs outstretched and leaning back against a mushroom tree, which is surprisingly hard considering its squishy looking appearance. "What's the rush? Let them do it."

"They might not catch everything," Marcus lectures but still sits on a protruding root next to Kisung. "Or they'll deliberately hide some important information."
"Why would they bother?" Ian wonders, taking a seat in the dirt on the other side of Kisung with his legs crossed.
Marcus rolls his eyes. "Have you not seen a movie or read a book? The protagonist always gets dicked over at some point because of a break in communication or from being backstabbed."
"And are you the main character?" Kisung scoffs.
"Well it's certainly not you," Vincenzo decides, stretching out on the ground near Marcus. "May, what do you think? Who's the better main character?"
May is sitting beside Vincenzo and Ian, completing the circle, legs tucked to the side and arms around her to try and keep the warmth in. "Protagonists are supposed to be handsome."
Marcus clutches his chest with a hand. "Did you just-"
"Not that you're ugly," May says quickly. "Just. Conventional stereotypes. I mean my aesthetic leans towards – not that it's important."
Ian is laughing. "You are ice cold, baby girl."
"I didn't mean it offensively," May argues.
"I was definitely offended," Marcus insists.
Kisung leans towards her and stage whispers; "May, you need to kiss his feelings better."
Vincenzo nods seriously. "And as we all know, a boy's feelings come from his dick."
May frowns at Vincenzo. "No thanks, I don't feel like dick right now."
"Girls are weird," Kisung muses. "I always feel like dick."
"No one touches my dick," Marcus interrupts and then distracts them again before this conversation can continue. "What we need to focus on is finding water and shelter."
"Guess we'll have to drink our own piss to not get dehydrated," Vincenzo says immediately with none of the reticence that should accompany such a sentence.
Kisung gives him a flat look. "I sure as hell don't have a glass. What, are you going to pee into your cupped hands?"
"I was actually going to lie back and then flip my legs over."
Ian barks out a laugh. "Yeah I remember the last time I tried to suck my own dick."
May takes a deep breath, genuinely incredulous. "How do you keep coming back to dicks? It's like every conversation you have is just-"
"Have we not met before?" Vincenzo interrupts. "Hi, I'm Vin. How ya going?"
Marcus sighs. "I need a new level of facepalming."
"Decapitation?" Ian offers up helpfully.
"Good idea," Marcus praises the blond. "End the suffering quickly."
