Chapter 6: The Lord of Vishaps

Aether doesn't know how to get to Inazuma, and his restlessness is bothering Noelle a lot.

The both of them returned to Liyue Harbor and stayed the night. The next day, they headed over to the adventurers guild to speak with Katheryne, for a new commission.

During their walk there, Noelle struck a conversation.

"Excuse me, Honorary Knight."

"Yes, Noelle?"

"Are you sure that you are alright, after what happened yesterday?"

"I'm fine, Noelle. Just being with you makes it all better."

Noelle blushes, and looked away.

"R-Really? That means a lot."

Aether chuckled. A few moments later they arrived at the guild, and Aether told Noelle to be on watch as he is getting the information on the new commission.

Afterwards, Aether poked her arm, signalling her out of her "On-Guard" behavior.

"I got the commission already. Let's get to the docks."

They headed over to the docks where Aether meets his contact, Uncle Dai.

"By the clothes on your back and the look on your face. Experienced adventurers at that, I'll wager." Uncle Dai noted.

"Right again! You're pretty perceptive!" Paimon cheered out.

"But the young lady here... She doesn't look like an adventurer. Pardon me, but her attire--"

Aether then gave him an attentive glare, and Uncle Dai immediately changes his subject.

"I mean, let's get back to the matter at hand!"

Paimon sighed in relief.

Uncle Dai then explained the commission, about an incident happening near the Chasm. And that he has an assistant who is a rock expert, however Paimon blabs about another friend that is Teyvat's number one rock expert.

They headed over to the teahouse where they see Zhongli, also known as Morax or Rex Lapis, enjoying his retirement listening to stories.

"Ah, look! That's the Maid-Knight in our story days ago--"

Paimon throws a tape to the storyteller's mouth, and glared at him comically.

After getting Zhongli to join them, they walked back to Uncle Dai, in which in the middle of the way Zhongli begins to speak again.

"Excuse me, Mondstadt maid."

"Hmm?" Noelle perked up.

"...Have we met?"

"Oh, pardon me Master Zhongli, but we haven't."

"I see. It's just that you look like someone I've seen a couple of years ago."

"Ah, do I? People sometimes have similar looks, Master Zhongli." Noelle chuckles.

"Alright then, I guess I shouldn't pry more."

They got to Uncle Dai again, and met his assistant, a man named Kun Jun. After some talk with them and amazed at Kun Jun's vast knowledge of a crystal he had, they left out to the Chasm to search for a group of miners that has disappeared.

They found their belongings just lying about at their posts, and their trail leads them on an exhausting journey beyond Tianqiu Valley and Nantianmen, until they reached a giant tree beneath Mount Hulao.

Under the tree, Aether, Noelle, Zhongli, Paimon and Kun Jun discovered the miners endlessly trying to dig a way into some cavern. When the miners turned around they tried to assault the group.

Aether and Noelle managed to hold some of them off while not trying to injure them, with Noelle shoulder tackling one of them causing him to tumble towards his comrades behind him and falling altogether like bowling pins.

Zhongli then erected a geo barrier to fend the miners off until a gust of black aura and wind struck them from behind, and sucked them into the cave where they see a gigantic creature, resembling a frog with skin as hard as stone, and shards of Cor lapis resembling crystals sticking out of it's body.

It calls Zhongli Morax, much to everyone's surprise except for Zhongli who said that a little girl is a manifestation that creature's power. The creature claims that it wanted revenge on Zhongli for sealing it away.

Before Zhongli could do anything, Noelle blocked his way using her arm, as she then summoned her claymore.

"What are you doing, you could not hope to survive against this." Zhongli said stoically.

"How can you be this calm!? Noelle is basically asking to be killed!"

Noelle slowly approaches the creature, to which it roared and asked, "You dare overstep your mortal authority!?"

It's roar blew Aether and Paimon away, while Zhongli and Noelle still stood, although Noelle is a little winded by it.

She gave the creature an unsettling glare as she then charges with her claymore, and with one full powered swing to it's front left leg, she managed to carve a wound out of it.

"Grrk!? What...? What is this strength!?" The creature asked, taken away by surprise after he underestimated Noelle.

Noelle continued to strike the creature, but now since it's ready it was durable enough to deflect Noelle's attacks. The creature begins to stand sideways, and stomped on the ground, causing heavy shockwaves with geo energy to shake the ground underneath. Zhongli quickly activated a barrier to protect both Paimon and Aether, although Noelle still stood, with her own barrier protecting her.

"Your powers are just like Morax, mortal. But know that a mortal is still a mortal, no matter how strong they may be!" It roars, before it's body begin to be infused with cryo.

The creature digs down into the ground, and stuck out it's tail where from it, hails of ice crystals begin to rain from the top, with markers aligned with ancient Liyue texts begin to appear.

Noelle quickly took one of the crystals that fell out of the monster when it infuses cryo, and a shield of cryo is erected, before Noelle continues to land attacks on it's exposed tail unharmed.

Desperate, the creature dug itself back up to the surface, and roars again, this time infusing itself with pyro.

"Amazing. I've never seen Noelle this confident in fighting before."

"What?" Paimon asked.

"Her ambition is to be one of the Knights of Favonius, to protect the people of Mondstadt. Could it be that the want to protect us is so big that her power begins to grow?"

Zhongli observed her from afar, and then he raised a brow as he recalled something.

"What's wrong, Zhongli?" Paimon asked again.

"It's nothing."

Tired and desperate, the creature raised one of it's legs, and smashes Noelle underneath it.

It laughs evilly, as it says "Now what will you do, Mortal! You are nothing beneath me!"

Only for it to shook in surprise as Noelle lifted the leg with her own two hands, and threw it aside, nearly causing the creature to tumble due to imbalance.

She then focuses her vision's power to her claymore, extending it's blade with a golden glow.

"Time to clean up!"

She raised the claymore, and swung it down, a golden streak of light carves the creature in half, before a bright light engulfs the entire cave.

When everyone came to, there is the little girl in question sitting down in the center of a seal powered by multiple geo pillars.

"Honorary Knight... I did it!"

"Unbelievable..." Paimon's jaw basically dropped.

"Noelle, you really did it. I'm proud." Aether then patted Noelle in the side of her head, causing her to blush, and averted her gaze downwards.

"To think that I would be outclassed by a mortal... To be sealed by Morax the second time!" The girl, in that creature's voice, cursed out.

"You should call it by it's name, Azhdaha, fate."

"Fate? Fate!!!"

Azhdaha begins to say that the wisdom of the gods enlist tyrants to ravage the lands. But then Kun Jun appeared, revealing himself to be another manifestation of Azhdaha's power.

It turns out that it has suffered erosion for thousands of years, beginning to forget Morax. After the resealing of Azhdaha, the remaining members of the group left the cave, where Aether then asked Zhongli about Khaenri'ah. However he refused to answer as it was bound to a contract.

However, before leaving, Zhongli called Aether out, to give him a reward but told him not to tell it to Noelle as "The time has not come yet".

Aether would leave without information about the destroyed civilization once again. Noelle stayed by his side, as they headed back to the harbor to stay the night.
