“Hey Albert. Its good to see you alive.” I said, sitting in the rather dark cellar in front of the boy who laid on a bed, sweating a lot.
“He is in delirium … I don’t know if you will be able to ask him anything.” The whore explained, speckling his swats forehead with a wet cloth.
“I kind of need to though.” I complained, grabbed to the stand right beside me and took out a rather large syringe. “You are the proper wife right? Anything we can give him?”
“I don’t even know what what vampires take to heal their wounds.” Certainly not a healing potion or healing magic. Those hurt like crazy.
“A bloodbath.” I explained and smiled wryly while cleaning the syringe in a bit of alcohol.
“Literally or not?” She asked and chuckled dangerously.
“… both.” I said, placed the tip of the syringe onto a visible vain and pushed it under my skin. Then, I slowly pulled on it and filled it with my own blood. “Let’s see if this works.” I said and pushed the tip into him, giving him my blood intravenous. “And just to make sure…” Grabbing a nearby knife, I cut my palm open and let a whole lot of blood flow into his mouth. A bit landed on his face, but most found its way into mouth. He did have his eyes open, but they never seemed to focus on anything, making it very hard to gauge if he understood us or not. Well, at least he didn’t puke up anything after I forced him to gulp.
Sighing quietly, I bandaged myself with a proper cloth this time and stood up.
“Are you sure you want to leave him with us? He is close to death.” She said, still cleaning his sweating body carefully.
“He was close to death from the moment I met him. He will need to hang in there for a week.” I said and strolled over towards the door.
“I see. I’ll give my best to take care of him.” She said and gave me a little smile.
“Thanks a lot.” I answered a bit happy that I had someone I could entrust him to while I wasn’t around.
“Have fun at the party.” She said and waved towards me as I wanted to leave the room.
“Yeah … I’m definitely going to have a lot of fun explaining to the trillionth time how Irminsul resurrected Sofie.” I answered and closed the door behind me a bit annoyed. “At least she is slowly starting to understand my plight …” I mutters quietly, following the butler on his way toward the black carriage. Getting inside there swiftly, I sat down just a few seconds before the carriage scooted back to the palace as fast as possible. Luckily, I only needed to put my head out of the window before we were let through and I jumped out of the carriage mere minutes after my wounds healed.
Striding up the steps while lifting up my dress, I was quickly greeted by some maids who directly guided me back to where I was an hour before.
A party. The so called Lucinda-explains-how-Sofie-rose-from-the-dead party … at least in my mind. I didn’t go through the main entrance this time though, but rather slipped into the room through one of the many side entrances.
But even then, a few nobles directly noticed me and swarmed me with question, some of which I answered truthfully, while others needed a rather twisted answer. Well, I did stay consistent with my story which sounded suspiciously like the reality, just that I had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Half an hour later, Sofie found me in the mess somehow and grabbed my hand, pulling me away from the nobles onto the nearby balcony which was more or less empty.
“How do you do that? I mean … how are you so nice to everyone? I’m always repeating the same story over and over again and I can’t anymore.” She said, leaning onto the railing and taking a sip from her glass.
“Just smile and wave … you’ll learn it eventually. And I do hope I can shield you from most of these parties.” I said. I definitely had to go to them, but I wasn’t so sure she had to attend regularly. Some say that its better when others you like are around … but I definitely could say that this wasn’t the case.
“But that must be torture!” She said, right as the balcony door opened once more and Gregory strode out into the night.
“Your majesty, Sofie … hey, do you know how she will select the group responsible for slaying the demon king?” Gregory asked Sofie which didn’t know how to react right away.
“Gregory, no matter how often you ask, I cannot answer and neither can Sofie. I see your desire to become a hero, but right now is not the time to put together a group which will march towards the demon king. If that ever is the case, I am sure you will have a chance of joining.” And there were also these people. Those who asked me for direction and surprisingly many who wanted to be blessed by me. There was even one couple who couldn’t conceive and … well, the rest is obvious.
“I see. Can I being you two anything?” He asked and both of us shook our heads right away. “Then, I’ll see you later.” He said and slowly walked back into the ballroom and started talking with his smaller half sister.
“He is …”
“Way too ambitious. You need to watch out for him a little.”
“But he seems nice?”
“Its only a matter of …” A mild headache hit me and I steadied myself using the railing, knowing what could come next. “A matter of time until either his success or his failure makes him greedy.” I said and nearly collapsed as excruciating pain shot through my head. I had to give my best to stop myself from giggling because it felt insanely good thanks to my fucked up perception and noticed Sofie’s hand on my shoulder only after she touched me.
“…hing alright?” She asked with a concerned expression on her face, but my ears rang so much in the beginning that I couldn’t understand her.
“Yeah …” I said, and was freed from the annoying pain just as I said so. Smiling brightly, I took her hand and pulled her back into the room. It only took a little while for us to find a place for our glasses and began dancing in the middle of the room fir several songs until Charles asked for a dance with me.
And once again, the round of socialising with those I didn’t care about began anew until deep into the middle of the night.
“You really do not want to ask for another favour?” The king asked me, guiding me through the hallways until the entrance of his palace.
“No, my dear. I do have enough eye witnesses who had seen the real perpetrator now. Just so you are aware, I have already ordered his release.” I said and gave him a bright smile.

“Hmm … are you coming for breakfast tomorrow? Your friend wanted to come as well.” Why? And more importantly when did Sofie except?
“I may be a bit too tired to come by. The last few days were rather exhausting.” I explained, hoping that his two most prized children wouldn’t annoy Sofie too much.
“That’s a pity.” He said and bowed deeply. Curtsying, I bid my farewells and descended the stairs carefully, only to hop into the same black carriage I usually used.
Once again, I scooted back through the streets, my driver making several detours like always to shake off any potential follower. Well, he was a trained assassin, so I did believe in his skills somewhat.
Completely exhausted, I entered Toms mansion once more and was guided underground right away towards Albert.
As nobody else was in the room, I took it upon myself to cool down his fever stricken body and gave him another round of my blood.
Then, I went into Tom’s wine cellar, took two bottles he liked to mix the most and brought them back into the room, along with a pristine glass.
Leaning back into the chair, I mixed human blood alongside a fifty year old wine and started sipping on the delicacy.
“Maybe … just maybe I need to change my mind on asking him to refrain from human blood.” I muttered and drank another sip of it right away. I had drunk animal blood for so long and only returned to human blood occasionally, but I had to admit that it was quite tasty and calmed down my never ending thirst somewhat. Closing my eyes a little, I savoured the sweet and intoxicating taste a little before I opened them once I noticed Tom’s steps in the hallway.
He opened the door shortly afterwards and looked at me, but didn’t say anything right away.
“Where do you get human blood from?”
“From the black market. It can also be used as an alchemical ingredient, albeit rarely.”
“I believe its time to change our diet.”
“And that only three months after you got back?”
“Well, Mary also sourced my meals and on the archipelago world, I didn’t need any. So I probably just followed a habit of mine which may be a mistake considering it was this risk free.” I surmised while twirling the contents in my glass.
“So it’s okay for me to drink human blood regularly now?” I wouldn’t say no, as long as it remained a risk free endeavour.
“I’ll allow it as long as you buy enough to feed the three us and hire an alchemist to experiment with blood as well.” I said and looked over towards Albert who started to groan a little.
“Finally.” Tom said, took the bottle of human blood and placed it onto his lips. He didn’t even care that most of it spilled all over his chin, if that wasn’t his goal from the very beginning.
“Take a glass next time. We aren’t animals.” I said a bit amused by his greedy behaviour.
“As you wish, your majesty.” He said and bowed down deeply. “Can I have a taste of your blood now?”
“That’s momentarily reserved for him.” I answered and pointed over towards Albert whose eyelids fluttered rapidly.
“What a shame.” Tom said and turned around as I had made it clear we wouldn’t be making any love that night.
“Tom, can you please bring me a book of your liking?” I asked and tilted my head to the side, hoping to get to read something new.
“Steven will bring it down. I’ll be meeting a few minor gang leaders in a bit.” He said and opened the door right away.
“Have a lot of fun.” I said and waved happily.
“See ya.” He said and left the room, leaving the door open for Steven to get through ten minutes minutes later, a book in his hand.
He carefully handed it over to me and waited a little while I let the contents of my glass swirl around.
“Fifty shades of red? Never read it before.” I said and skimmed over the text at the back of the book.
“The master could only say good things about it.” He said and bowed deeply.
“Ah, I see. And while we are at it, could you please bring me the finest wine you have and the most exquisite bottle of blood?” I asked, knowingly putting my most charming smile on my lips.
“I do hope a southern wine from the era ninety s.a. with Arne blood of a strong warrior slain by the demons is fits your tastes.” I may be a vampire, taking care of my newest soon to be fledgling, but I also had class.
