Life. Life was the sound of a beating heart, tempting me to take a bite. With its rhythmic sounds, it was both intoxicating and calming at the same time driving me from one side of the spectrum to another in a matter of minutes … or maybe I was just a bit more thirsty than usual.
But despite pressing the butlers warm skin against mine at every opportunity feel what I set out to sense. The key to life was still out of my reach.
But at least I came up with a theory as to why the demons were living, yet were neither really alive nor dead. They had a minimum of the gift of life inside them! Not enough to be noteworthy by godly standards, nor to elicit any reaction out of me. At least that’s what I came up with. But it was merely my take on everything and what did I know about life? Not much to be honest.
“You are surprising wholesome for …” Sebastian said as I was rubbing my cheek on his chest while sighing satisfied.
“For?” I asked slowly, wondering what he wanted to say, but didn’t do so in the last second.
“… for a vampire.” He said, not entirely dodging the question, but also not answering it as he probably wanted to say something else.
“And here I was, thinking you wanted to say a naked psychopath who has zero problems ensnaring a butler to do her crazy experiments.” I asked, pushing myself off his chest to look at him directly. The duvet fell down by a bit due to that, but neither I nor him really cared about that as he looked away a bit embarrassed. Apparently, I did hit the hammer on the nail and struck something he wasn’t exactly comfortable with.
“I would never say something like this.” He admitted, which technically wasn’t wrong.
“But you thought it?” I asked and pulled myself a bit upwards to enjoy his slightly panicking expression a bit more. And then, I burst out into laughter which made him panic even more. “Relax. I told you I wouldn’t harm you today, didn’t I?”
“The day is over, milady.” Looking out of the window, he was indeed right as the sun wasn’t around anymore.
“Do you want to be eaten that badly?” I asked while giggling a little. But as soon as I heard the distant footsteps approaching and could link them to a person, I stopped doing so and pulled the duvet further up. “We are getting a visitor.”
With no time to prepare, the butler tended up a little as the door swung open, but relaxed as soon as he noticed Albert, who had the reputation of a rather easy going vampire, standing inside the doorframe.
“Lucy! I … I didn’t know you were … you know.” That wasn’t entirely surprising. After all, I made sure that he wouldn’t notice my slightly evil actions like … murdering a few people while having sex with them.
“Come here Albert. I want to show you something.” I explained, waved him over towards me and pulled the duvet a bit downwards, exposing the butlers chest and partly mine as well. “Lay down next to him.” I told him, but his eyes wandered away from the scene right away. “Come on, don’t act like a scared kitten.”
“I’m not?” That was honestly one of Alberts problems. At the slightest bit of immodesty, he hesitated immediately.
“You are … how about I let you drink my fresh blood afterwards?” I propose, knowing full well there was hardly anything he wouldn’t do to take a bite out of me.
“O … okay.” Finally, he laid down on the other side of the butler above the duvet while I let my fingers wander across Sebastian’s chest. “Listen to his heartbeat.”
“Ehm ….” He cleared his throat, not really expecting that from me. But slowly, I wanted to get him to drink the blood of someone else as well. I didn’t mind giving my blood as a reward, but feeding him as well basically meant I was always thirsty … which would have been the case anyway, but my point still stands.
“Please, do it for me.” I asked and smiled happily as he laid his ear right above Sebastian’s beating heart. Caressing Alberts cheek carefully, I made sure he wasn’t completely uncomfortable with the situation and then turned my head towards the butler and started nibbling on his skin.
“It feels nice …” Albert admitted while I felt Sebastian’s heartbeat increase by several folds. Playfully biting into his earlobe, I made sure that it would stay like this for a little and returned my gaze to Albert who looked at me with puppy eyes.
“Albert, we vampires love everything about blood. From our own bloodline to the heartbeat of others. And you are no exception. Don’t you think it’s time for you to drink human blood?” I asked calmly while going through his Haus with my hand.
“I do not want to hurt anyone. I will only take the blood of those who give it away freely.” He said, still abiding by the vow he had made, even though it just pushed the ‘burden’ of hurting others upon my shoulders.
“But no human will ever do that without any reservation. Even Hannah wouldn’t like to be my source of life forever.” I explained while he sat upright, denying me of giving him any faked affection in the process.
“I don’t think so.” He admitted slowly. Sighing quietly, I decided to let it be for the time being. He didn’t have the same experience with humans I did. And knew for sure that once you started hurting them, most of them would look at you in a vastly different light, if they had even accepted your vampirism in the first place.
“I see.” I mumbled and rolled off the butler and pulled the duvet further downwards, but not far enough for Albert to shy away. “Come here.” Tilting my head to the side, I exposed my nape readily. Albert directly took the invitation by stepping over the butler and crawling over me, his knees to the side of my waist.
I could feel his cold breath on my skin for a little while before he dug his canines into me. Warmth spread through my body straight away, but definitely not the kind of heat that drove me to do kinky shit. Instead, I merely embraced him, patted his back in satisfaction and breathed out roughly. This time, he took way more than usual but it had been a little while since I last fed him personally. My guess was that he just waited instead of drinking the bottled blood I gave him.
But I wasn’t against feeling a calming pleasure shooting through my vein as well, so I haven’t said anything yet. But as he pressed down on my shoulders and drank my blood like an animal, I knew for sure that someone had to make sure he did. I had turned him into a vampire, making me his mother figure for some reason even though I was literally the worst at parenting.
At last though, he pressed himself off me, shocked by his own actions and probably his thirst as well.
“How many days have you gone without drinking blood?” I asked, pulling the slipped duvet upwards once more.

“Three.” He admitted, looking down onto the bed. Well, I did it for over a week once and I can say that thirsting isn’t a pleasurable experience. And with his endurance, he was probably way more affected by prolonged periods of abstention.
“That’s not good Albert. I have told you to drink daily, even though my older blood doesn’t taste as good.” I admonished him straight away. Not only was I considerably weakened by his actions, but I also needed to worry about him now as well, along with all the other stuff still resting on my shoulders.
“But …” He mumbled, looking down like a little kid.
“No but. You need to drink every single night. Understood?” The asked in a rather angry voice.
“Yes, mu- Lucy.” And that was the next problem with him. He really saw me as his mum. For some fucked up reason, he kept viewing me that way no matter what I did. And sometimes when he didn’t think about it, it crept out of his mouth which always resulted in a wave of displeasure shooting through my body. I wanted to reject his feelings badly but I feared it would mean rejecting him as well, which I wouldn’t be able rectify at a time where I was lucky to have a single day off.
And so, I had to bear with his feelings as could only sigh in return to his statement.
“Why are you here Albert?” I asked after a little while, completely ignoring the butler to my side who looked at both of us in shock, but also interest.
“Ehm … right. Did Tom tell you about the bridge which the demons used to cross the river?” Albert asked which made me think a little.
“I can vaguely remember such a thing.” I answered, only then remembering how I completely disregarded it at the time.
“So apparently, the demons pushed the bridge onto the river and didn’t build it upon it.” Albert said, obviously expecting some kind of understanding from my side which didn’t exactly happen. I had no clue how to build a bridge after all.
“Okay?” I asked, hoping I didn’t act too dumbly.
“Tom doesn’t know because … well, he never built a bridge, but their method isn’t exactly common here.” Right … so the demons built a bridge using otherworldly methods … and now what?
“And what does that mean?” I asked, seriously not getting what he was implying.
“I haven’t calculated it through yet, but together with levitation magic and a few strong trolls, it should be possible to design a bridge which is sturdy enough for most demons to cross the northern canyon.” He said, which made me think a little about the implications, but I quickly disregarded the fact they could build bridges as useless for the time being.
“Okay …” I answered, which sadly incentivised him to explain even further, despite me grasping what the problem was very well.
“The important part is that it can be prebuilt this way. They may already have one and can cross this largely undefended gap within hours.” He explained, which was exactly what I thought as well.
“I see.” I said, smiling brightly to motivate him further. His input was indeed valuable after all.
“You … aren’t bothered by it? The demons could attack us from the side whenever they wanted.” Yeah, they could. But strategically, that would be a mistake.
“I’m not worried. If I were the demon king, I wouldn’t attack right now. Why do that and give us the defenders advantage when you can wait and eradicate a few of their strongest fighters along with humanities hope?” The enemy merely had to wait two weeks and we would walk into his trap anyways. And by announcing it so loudly, I knew for sure the intel got to him.
“O-Okay … ehm … can I go and fix the hot air balloon?” He asked after realising that was everything he came for.
“Sure.” I said, smiling brightly in return. Watching Albert leave, I slowly got back to my previous place on Sebastian’s chest and continued to listen to his calming heartbeat.
“You dream of a family, and yet you already have one.” The butler concluded after several minutes which made me flinch in anger. I did not want this weird relationship between Albert and me at all. But he was too valuable to be discarded just because I didn’t want to play the role of his mother.
“That’s a comment you would be better of not making.” I growled angrily and stood up from the bed right away. “Get me some clothing.” I demanded coldly and made him realise that cuddling time was over.
