Yamasaki reflected on the situation and realized that something was not right. He shouldn't have given in to her so easily. Just because he was feeling more aroused each day didn't mean he should neglect his responsibilities and thoughts towards her.

Though he said that he loved her, he didn't do anything for her and didn't even think much about her condition.

In the morning, just like him, she was also feeling aroused. But she stopped in between. Why? Because of embarrassment? At that time, he thought that was the case but now he didn't. The enlightenment not only increased his comprehension but also made his mind more clear. He could see where he was going wrong.

He had avoided looking into information about Mattias, believing that it would only make him angry and unable to take any action. Similarly, he had also not inquired much about Claire's past, convincing himself that she appeared strong and fine, and that exploring her past would only complicate matters unnecessarily.

However, he had been acting foolishly and timidly, repeating the same mistake of running away and shielding himself with self-centered lies. Despite being a genius, Claire was still a young woman who had experienced many things that he was unaware of.

In front of Megumi's grave, he had promised her that he would improve and try to do things right. But he didn't improve at all. Instead he became more pathetic.

'But not anymore.'

As if sensing the change in him, Sasha smiled and said, "Okay, you should go now. I don't care about your stupid reasons. Just don't bother me again."

Yamasaki gave her a tight hug, thanking her before walking to the corner and disappearing as he stepped on a shadow. Sasha clicked her tongue in amazement and thought, 'What kind of sorcery has he learned?'

She chuckled to herself, "I hope he won't use this to spy on women while they're bathing."

While Sasha wasn't worried about him, she was glad to see the determination in his gaze. She returned to her bed, humming a tune as she thought about her own gains.

In a dark dimension called the Shadowlands—a vast, interconnected realm of shadow that stretches across Isfet, linking the material world to the spirit world and the underworld—Yamasaki appeared in a certain place.

Claire was waiting for him with a small white orb in her hand. She was a bit confused as to why he came back.

He smiled and embraced her firmly. She blinked and asked, "why did you return?"

He chuckled, "I dropped the idea of satisfying your voyeur fetish at the last moment."

She rolled her eyes. "Be serious."

He let her go and changed the topic. "What is that white ball?"

"I recorded the music you created with Sasha," she said. "It was good."

He grinned and gave her a thumbs up. "Smart, but I still need to ask Sasha if it's okay to keep it. If not, we'll delete it. What do you think?"

She nodded, "That's fair." Then she took his hand and started walking in a certain direction.

They were currently inside Claire's shadow. A special dimension was created in the shadow using a rare art from a scripture called Void. According to Claire, only a high level assassin could use it. The reason was simple. Void had techniques and arts that had extremely high standards of comprehension and the space created after using the art was hard to use. Attainment was something that came with experience. And Claire was not a high level assassin, she was a heaven defying talent.

As for the Shadowlands, Claire just told him that it had many layers. The deeper one went, the more dangerous it was. And they were using the outermost layer to travel. It was usually safe with a few accidents here and there.

They went back to his room and climbed up his bed. Yamasaki sat with his back on the frame and tapped beside him. "Can you come here?"

Though still confused, she nodded and sat next to him.

He placed his hand on top of hers and asked softly, "Claire why did you hesitate in the morning?"

She tilted her head and said, "didn't I tell you before?"

He shook his head. "Was it out of embarrassment… or fear?"

He saw her eyes widening—only for a second—before turning to normal.

Yamasaki pressed his lips in a thin line.

He had guessed right.

"Can you tell me about it? I know currently I am weak, too weak in fact. But if I can support you in any way then I can do anything for you. Claire, can you?"

She stayed silent. His grip unconsciously tightened. Now he understood how miserable Clara felt when he was not opening up, when he kept on pushing her away. Just like her, he won't give up, not now.

So he smiled and said, "it's alright if you don't want to. Guess I need to work hard and get stronger until I am good enough to know that."

Claire shook her head. "It's not that. I am just hesitating because… I don't know how you will react."

"No matter what, I will support you."

She nodded, believing in him, and started speaking, "Do you remember I said that they tried to brainwash me and failed?"

"Hmm."

He had a sense of premonition so he steeled his heart.

"I had lied. He had succeeded at least half way."

She interlocked her fingers with his and softly said, "He used drugs on me."
