"Darius... He was the man in charge of the peerage in Markus' absence. I was nine years old when I first met him. Though I had started assassin training long ago, I was fine with it as it involved swords. But that man made me… made me see things I never saw before. I never wanted to see them. He twisted my mind and my morals, and before I knew it, I was a completely different person."
Seeing her eyes getting unfocused, he panicked. 'Are you okay?' he asked, placing a hand on her shoulder. He was already regretting asking her to talk about her past, he should have done things slowly. He was just proving his stupidity again. He gently squeezed her shoulder. "Claire, it's alright. You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."
Despite his efforts to comfort and support her, Claire seemed to be in a world of her own, lost in the memories of her past. Her tone was detached and almost inhumane, as if she was trying to distance herself from the pain and suffering that she had endured.
"It started with him doing Zara in front of me. Zara was my nanny; she used to take care of my basic needs. So I was confused and frightened by what I was seeing. But they said that it was an important part of the training. Zara seemed to be in pain and enduring it for me so I watched it till the end."
"..."
"Time passed and it became a routine for me; seeing him pleasure Zara and other peerage women. And then they told me to play with myself. They told me to insert—"
Holding her cheeks, Yamasaki called out in a loud, unstable voice, "Claire!" His head suddenly felt dizzy but soon turned normal. Yamasaki didn't bother to look into this; Claire was much more important than his stupid body.
She broke out of her state and looked at him blankly. He could see the trauma and pain etched in her eyes and he knew that she had been reliving some of the worst moments of her life.
He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close, and said softly, "It's okay, Claire. You don't have to talk about it anymore. I am here for you."
She gave him a weak, exhausted stiff smile and closed her eyes. Then they laid on the bed silently, Yamasaki caressing her head. His tense nerves finally relaxed when he felt her even breaths. He could feel her body beginning to relax. He closed his own eyes and held her close, vowing to be always there for her, no matter what the future held.
Few minutes later, he heard her soft voice, "did I scare you?" Her voice was a stark contrast to the cold, monotone tone they had always used before. It was as if a veil had been lifted, revealing her true emotions.
Yamasaki opened his eyes and looked at her beautiful face. Squeezing out a smile, he said, "A lot."
Her warm hand filled with calluses touched his cheeks as her soft lips gently touched his; after they separated, she blinked and asked, "now fine?"
He placed his hand on her firm ass and gave her a squeeze before nodding, "now better."
Her lips pursed in a cute pout and then she exhaled, her jasmine scent tingling him. "That's so you."
He smirked; but his smile froze when he heard her say, "now back to the topic."
"Umm, are you sure?" He asked, his voice filled with concern.
"Mmh. I didn't expect my heart demon to attack before but now I am prepared. My soul's already in the heart lake."

"What the heck, Claire?! A heart demon is like a poison to the cultivator's soul. How can you take such a risk?" He shook his head, "if I had known that you already have a heart demon, I wouldn't have started this—"
Claire smiled softly, her green eyes narrowing into crescent shape as they sparkled with joy. He was captivated by this mesmerizing sight.
He cleared his throat and said, "even if you show such an expression, still it's too dangerous."
He avoided eye contact and continued. "If I am not wrong. Then it's highly likely that when Alan gave us the information that I have Sacred Spring Physique, you were not only angry at him but also this shitty Darius."
"Mmh," she hummed, her voice alluring him even more now.
"But the heart demon acted when you talked about the past. That means that even though your devil is related to that bitch, the trigger is still the past. Am I rig–" he changed his sentence midway, "Am I wrong?"
"Hmm. Completely."
Yamasaki grumbled, "are you even listening?"
"No."
"..."
Yamasaki was taken aback when he heard Claire's soft laughter, a sound he had never heard before. It lifted the heavy mood and made him feel giddy too. He pulled her close and looked into her eyes, saying, "I don't know why you're suddenly so happy, but I want to see you like this all the time."
"I'm not sure why, but when I saw you looking so serious for me, I felt a sudden surge of happiness that I can't quite explain," Claire replied, shrugging her shoulders. "And then, when you were avoiding my eyes, it was so adorable. I guess even someone like me can be expressive."
"Don't say 'even someone like me.' In my eyes, you are the most beautiful, expressive, and kind person," Yamasaki said.
"Oh, is that what you say to every woman you see?" Claire asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, you are not the only one," Yamasaki replied, shaking his head. "I'll be honest, I have said similar things to other women in the past. But I really mean it this time."
Claire nodded, trusting in Yamasaki. The smile disappeared from her face as she took a moment to consider his words. "I appreciate your honesty, Eric. Let's get back to discussing the issue at hand."
After a moment of hesitation, Yamasaki responded, "Okay, let's do it."
